Chapter 2

Author: Joy Bright
Night had fallen when I heard Megan unlock her door.

I hurriedly gathered the bouquet of roses I had bought and prepared to knock on her door. However, rhythmic thuds and stifled moans leaked out from her apartment.

The bouquet instantly slipped from my hands and hit the floor. Had she and Vincent made up?

The realization that I'd been lied to overwhelmed me, yet more than anything, I felt powerless. I plopped down on the couch and stared blankly at the painting on the wall, but I no longer had the courage to take it down.

Right then, someone knocked on my door. I dragged my dejected self over to answer it, and my eyes instantly went wide.

Megan wore a fiery red lace nightgown. The bold color accentuated her curves and left just enough to the imagination.

I ogled at her fair chest and couldn't help but gulp.

Megan's chuckle made my ears flush red. I hurriedly averted my gaze, avoiding her knowing look.

"Mind if I use your shower?"

"Huh?" That was fast. I hadn't even told her how I felt yet.

My instincts kicked in before my brain could catch up, and I nodded repeatedly. I stepped inside and let her in.

After her swaying figure disappeared from sight, I placed my hand over my rapidly pounding chest. Was I going to get lucky tonight? Would I get to feel the touch of a little riding crop and candle wax too?

As the sound of running water filled the room, I imagined how I would pin beneath me and lose myself in the moment. My phone rang, snapping me back to reality.

It was Ethan. I slapped my forehead. I'd completely forgotten about tonight's finals.

I took a quick look at the bathroom, steeled myself, and replied to Ethan. "I'm down with a bad flu. Everything hurts, and my head's spinning. I can't even get out of bed."

Three thousand dollars was nothing compared to my future wife. To make sure I wouldn't be disturbed, I powered off my phone.

Megan pushed open the bathroom door at that moment.

Drying her hair with a towel, she sauntered toward me. "Do you like me? Or do you just like my body?" Right after saying that, she took my hand and placed it on her soft chest.

My jaw dropped, and I shook my head repeatedly. No, I genuinely liked her. I had fallen for her at first sight.

On the day she moved in, we ran into each other in the elevator. I was carrying two boxes of instant noodles, a crate of Coke, and a few snacks. The moment I stepped into the elevator, one of the bags in my hands snapped, spilling everything onto the ground.

While I was frantically tidying up the mess, a pair of slender hands appeared in front of me. The second we reached for the same snack, a cold sensation brushed over me.

I looked up, and after three years of feeling nothing for anyone, my heart stirred. I had assumed she was single, thinking I would have a chance to win her over eventually.

However, late that night, moans and groans echoed from her unit. I pressed my ear against the wall, attempting to confirm whether it was really her.

Then, my painting fell, crushing the last of my hope. The aloof goddess I had admired from afar was actually a succubus.

Megan wore a sexy leather ensemble, holding a riding crop. With a sultry look in her eyes, she whipped the man handcuffed to the bed.

At that moment, it felt as if my whole world had come crashing down. Yet, I couldn't resist the desire in my heart. I wanted to admire her beauty every single day.

I never imagined that one day, she would actually be standing right in front of me. Wringing my hands, I mustered all my courage and laid my heart bare. "I fell for you before I lusted for your body. Please give me a chance to stand proudly by your side!"

The mischievous glint in her eyes caused beads of sweat to trickle down my forehead. I wanted to show her I meant it, so I raised my hand. "I haven't dated anyone since I broke up with my ex three years ago, Megan. I have a car, a house, and savings; I'm no leech. So, give me a chance to take care of you!"

A sinister glint flashed through her eyes, but it vanished in an instant. Still, I instinctively took a step back.

That was the look one gave their sworn enemy. I racked my brain. However, apart from peeping at her, I'd never done anything to hurt her.

Was she not here for a man but to get back at me for peeping?

Her cool, moist hand slipped beneath the hem of my shirt and slowly moved upward, eroding my senses. Her initiative melted all my worries away.

Looking back, that venomous look must've been meant for Vincent. Megan had me completely under her spell, and all I could think about was wanting more.

"Alright, I'll be your girlfriend. However, you're really not very good at holding back, are you? We've barely started, and you're already throwing in the towel. Don't tell me you can only last three to five minutes..."

Her endless banter shattered the last of my self-restraint. Gazing at her soft, rosy lips, I went in for a kiss.

When we were a mere fraction of an inch apart, she veered away and licked my earlobe. "Easy now. We have all the time in the world. Now… Help me unclog my drain."

The second time I drifted off, I vaguely heard Megan's conversation with Vincent. The topic was my house.I had initially thought I was only dreaming until I learned that Vincent was still alive. Then, I realized that the conversation in my dream had actually been real. Hence, when I was brought back, I told the police everything that had happened in the last few days. The cops didn't dismiss my claims simply because the evidence was one-sided. After looking into it, they discovered that Megan had gotten into stock trading six months ago—she not only lost her house but also ended up over two million dollars in debt.'Vincent had helped her pay off 500 grand, but he could no longer come up with the rest. Consequently, the two of them decided to set up a honey trap to extort more money. When I heard that, I couldn't help but make a bold guess. While searching online for potential targets, the two of them came across the dating profile video I had posted and added me to their lis

"I didn't! I genuinely love Meg! Don't believe him, Meg. You and Callista are different in my heart. She was my puppy love, whereas you're my true love," Vincent hurriedly explained after shooting daggers at me.I jeered. "Is that so? Would someone who truly loved you send you onto my bed just to get revenge for his first love?" Perhaps the two of them had some feelings for each other, but it definitely didn't run deep. Under my instigation, the two of them actually began squabbling right in front of me. Unwilling to watch them tear each other apart, I popped the question that had been bothering me. "So, you orchestrated this whole charade and lured me into your trap just to get revenge on me?" "Yes..." Megan was about to admit it when Vincent seized her arm. He glanced at the door and shook his head at her. Megan gritted her teeth and fell silent. I crossed my arms over my chest and gazed at them. I was in no rush to learn the truth. As time trickled by, my silence began to

As Megan explained what had happened, my mind rewound to three years ago. It was Valentine's Day. I'd happened to take on a job from a wealthy client who had just gone through a breakup. The commission was higher than usual this time—ten grand. Combined with my savings, I had just enough to buy the designer bag Callista had been eyeing for months but could never bring herself to spend money on. Callista had wanted me to celebrate the occasion with her, but I explained that I would make it up to her the next day. Callista was furious. She picked up the keyboard I'd just bought and hurled it on the floor, demanding to know whether she or the game mattered more to me. I told her both of them were equally important to me.Yet, she raised a baton, pointing it straight at my monitor. "Either you spend the night with me, or we're over! If you don't make a decision, I'll smash your computer so we never have this argument again." I thought she was being unreasonable. I pulled out my

"I didn't do any of that!" I protested, only for a police officer to toss my clothes at me. "We've already gotten the full story. Get dressed and come to the station with us." At that moment, I only just realized the severity of the situation. I looked at Megan hopefully. "Megan, hurry up and tell the cops that we're dating, and we had sex consensually!" I hurriedly closed the distance between us. Yet, she fled, her body trembling uncontrollably. With teary eyes, she looked at the female officer. "That's not true. My toilet and drain were clogged, so I knocked on his door and asked him to help me unclog them. However, he dragged me into his apartment and threatened me into having sex with him. After I managed to break free and escape, he followed me back to my apartment and held me captive…"I understood every single word that came out of her mouth, yet when they came together, I was dumbstruck. Megan was the one who knocked on my door; she was the one who invited me into her

"I'm shutting you up so you don't disturb our neighbors in the middle of the night," Megan said.Initially, I didn't understand what she meant until she walked out the door. I tried to call out her name, only to realize I couldn't make a sound. That was when panic surged through me. What was the meaning of this? How had I lost my voice? Why had she locked me inside her house? I kicked one of the pillows off the bed with all my strength, attempting to stop Megan in her tracks. However, she merely looked at me and scoffed. "Enjoy these three days of despair." At that moment, I wished I had never heard those words. I closed my eyes, racking my brain over what I'd done wrong to make Megan get back at me in such a twisted manner.Yet, no matter how long I thought about it, I still couldn't come up with a single clue. In the end, I had no choice but to give up. I figured I'd tough it out for three days and demand an explanation from her. Unfortunately, I'd underestimated my body'

Yet, every single time I called, no one answered. In the end, her number was taken out of service.
