LOGINEthan's POV
My body betrayed me. I was trembling like someone in intense heat, or rather, I was actually in heat. The scent spilled through me, and the room being filled with alphas detected my omega scent in an instant. There was an uproar among the crowd. The tutor narrowed his eyes in disbelief. “He's releasing omega pheromones,” a boy exclaimed from behind. “Gosh. I can't believe an omega snuck into the school.” “How did he hide it all these while?” “He's going to get punished, or worse, executed.” Their voices rang like a heavy bell in my ear. “Come closer Ethan,” the instructor ordered. I swallowed hard and glanced at the crowd of students, whose eyes were fixed on me. Lucian had an indifferent expression and his hands were folded across his chest. I didn't know what he was thinking. He didn't shout like the rest. Arden looked restless and shocked at the same time. “Ethan, I said, move closer.” “Oh, yes sir.” I muttered and stepped forward. I had been lost in my thoughts for a while. “It's not what you think it is. It's ummm…my perfume.” I stuttered. My eye was already twitching like it did whenever I lied. Lying was something that was difficult for me to do since childhood. Mr. Elias, the man who was among the inspectors, held my hand. My hand trembled as he gripped it. He moved his hand to my neck and collarbones. Afterwards, he took off his spectacles and placed both hands on his waist. “Ethan, I'm afraid you're lying. Tell me the truth, are you an omega?” My breath hitched. I opened my mouth to say something, but no words came out as I wasn't certain of what to say. The second inspector behind the desk slammed his fist into the table. “Unbelievable. This has never happened in the history of Ravenholt Academy. What were your intentions when coming here? Do you realize the punishment for this crime?” I gulped and lowered my gaze to the ground. Mother had feared me being executed if I was caught, but father was adamant that I'd simply be sent away because of his influence as an alpha. “I…I used a really bad perfume.” I lied once again. “I'm an alpha.” The inspectors only seemed to get more infuriated. They weren't dumb to believe that. Every werewolf, especially an alpha, knew what omega pheromones do to their senses. “Do you take us as fools?” Inspector Elias flared up. He motioned towards two hefty boys and they moved forward. “Take him away to the staff office and lock him there till we're done.” The boys grabbed me by both sides. “Wait sir. I can explain. It's not what you think.” Inspector Elias ignored me and turned towards the second inspector. “I'd put a call to his guardian. I want to know why they sent him here.” My chest ached, not because I was about to be rusticated from school, but because I dreaded returning home to my father who would see me as nothing other than a failure. I snapped free from the grip of the boys. “I'd walk to the office by myself.” I sighed and walked towards the exit. “Ethan, wait!” The familiar voice of Lucian halted me. I turned backwards and he stepped forward into the center. “Inspectors, I'm the one responsible for what happened to Ethan.” I raised a confused brow. “What was he doing?” He winked at me and faced the inspectors. “I know I'm a bully and I deserve to be punished, but none of this is Ethan's fault.” “Mr. Lucian.” Inspector Elias drawled. “Can you speak in clear terms? How are you responsible for his pheromones?” Lucian inhaled deeply and glanced at me briefly, before returning his face to the men. “I hated him so much that I…” He paused and stared at me who was still standing at the door. My eyes narrowed further, not fully understanding what he was trying to prove. “Continue.” “Okay. I slipped pills into his drink that made him mimic the pheromones of an omega, so that he can fail the evaluation.” Gasps and murmurs erupted from the crowd of students. Wait a minute. What was Lucian doing? Covering up for me? He couldn't do that, except he wanted to get punished instead. Who would believe his story? My whole life I had never heard of omega mimicking pills. “Lucian Orion. Are you speaking the truth?” Elias asked, while giving both of us a cursory look. Lucian nodded slowly. “I'm very sorry Sir. It won't repeat itself.” “Very well then. I'd have to set Mr. Ethan free and punish you instead. I hope you're aware that you can still be punished despite your father being one of the academy founders.” Lucian hung his head low. “I apologize, Sir.” The second inspector who had been quiet most of the while, stepped forward and held my hand. He studied it, dropped it and looked at the other one. Then, he tilted my chin. “Something is definitely wrong, Elias. I can feel it.” “What is it, Sebastian?” Elias inquired. Inspector Sebastian addressed the crowd of students. “Everyone should leave now. We'll continue the evaluation tomorrow.” I heaved a sigh of relief and turned towards the door. Sebastian's voice rang out. “Except both of you, Ethan and Lucian.” I froze and went pale instantly. It wasn't over? The noise in the hall started to feel too loud. During the break, there was laughter, music, and voices overlapping. It pressed against my ears until my head throbbed. I shifted my weight and tightened my arms around myself, trying to ignore the warmth creeping under my skin. It wasn’t strong yet, but I could feel it. The faint unease, as my suppressant was wearing thin.I glanced around again. People were still talking, moving in groups, grabbing drinks. The break hadn’t been long, but it felt like time was dragging. Two more sessions were still left. Two more hours, at least.I couldn’t stay like this. What if my scent slipped out?Slowly, I stepped away from the crowd, keeping my head down. No one paid me much attention. Everyone was busy with their own conversations. I moved toward the side corridor that led away from the main hall. The convenience room wasn’t far. A small space tucked behind the hall. It was meant for staff mostly, but students slipped in all the time when they n
I sat on my bed long after the call ended. The phone was still in my hand, my fingers curled around it like I was afraid it might start ringing again. The room felt too quiet, and I stared ahead without really seeing anything, my father’s voice still echoing in my head.‘Better you die in that academy.’I swallowed and forced myself to take deep breaths.Slowly, I lowered the phone and placed it on the bed beside me. My hands felt weak. Everything in me felt heavy, like I had been pressed down from the inside. I leaned back and stared at the ceiling, blinking until the sting in my eyes faded. The thought of another task being added was enough to make my head hurt.My gaze shifted to the desk. The suppressor box sat there, unopened. I had dropped it there earlier without thinking, too distracted by the call to deal with it. Now, it felt like it was staring back at me, reminding me of my pitiful state.I pushed myself up and walked over to it.I broke the seal and lifted the lid.At fir
The phone kept ringing. I didn’t answer right away. My thumb hovered over the screen while the vibration rattled through my palm, each buzz sending more anxiety into my chest. Father.I already guessed why he was calling. My father would never call randomly even to check up on me. Never!Ravenholt liked to pretend it trained independence, but nothing that mattered here stayed private. The academy kept records, assessments, rankings, psychological notes. Guardians had access to all of it through the online Archive.Father would have seen the F the moment it was uploaded. The ringing stopped and I breathed out in relief. A second later, it started again.I exhaled slowly and answered, already figuring out that if I kept ignoring it, it would spell more trouble for me.“Good morning, dad.” I greeted, while trying hard to maintain my cool. There was no greeting on his end. He just grunted and puffed heavily, and I could already guess that he was smoking.“You failed,” my father said.I k
The arrow flew. For half a second, I thought maybe, just maybe, it would hit. I kept my eyes closed, my breath trapped in my chest as I held it. I crossed my fingers and listened for the sound I wanted. The solid thump of wood. The quiet confirmation that I hadn’t embarrassed myself again.Instead, I heard a thud. It wasn't wood.A sharp sound echoed across the field as the arrow struck the wall far from the target.I opened my eyes slowly. It hadn’t even come close. A low murmur spread through the students, accompanied by laughter. My face reddened with embarrassment.Instructor Sebastian didn’t react right away. He stood still, his gaze fixed on the arrow lodged uselessly in the wall. Then, his eyes shifted to me.“That’s enough,” he ordered as I stretched the bow to try again. My grip on the bow loosened. My fingers were numb now, aching badly.Sebastian stepped forward and took the bow from my hands. “You’ve been given more than enough chances.”He turned slightly and made a note
By the time I got back to my room, my arms felt heavy. My fingers ached from gripping the bow for so long, especially my right hand. I shut the door quietly behind me and leaned against it for a moment, breathing out.The room was silent. My roommate wasn’t around. I didn’t know where he usually went at night, and I didn’t care enough to ask. I was glad to be alone.I washed up quickly, changed into my sleep clothes, and lay on the bed. The mattress felt firmer than usual, or maybe my body was just too tired to sink into it properly. My thoughts wouldn’t slow down from thinking about Claire, the mission, Lucian, Sebastian, and my father.I stared at the ceiling, replaying the way Lucian stood behind me, correcting my grip, his voice calm and confident like he already knew I would fail if he didn’t intervene.I didn’t like him. At least I told myself I wasn't queer and there was no way I could mate a man. I closed my eyes anyway. Sleep came faster than I expected.*********************
We spoke further, with her telling me a bit about her family. How she couldn't wait for the holidays to see them. It was a sharp contrast to me, who was always happier being away from my family, especially my dad.Midway into our conversation, a girl walked towards us. Claire looked up as though she knew her. The girl stopped beside our table, leaning toward Claire, and completely ignoring me despite the fact that I waved at her.“I’ve been looking for you. The coach said I should bring you now.”Claire sighed and pushed her chair back.“I have to go,” she said, looking at me. “I’ll see you later.”“Okay,” I replied. She smiled once before leaving with the girl.I finished the rest of the food slowly. My appetite had returned more than I expected. I felt lighter, like a small weight had been lifted from my chest.Talking to Claire helped me feel better and closer to achieving my mission. I couldn't wait to get out of this academy. When I left the dining hall, the night air was cool. T
