“Did they tell you when this was?”

“Early February when most small game animals are still hibernating. They established a meeting area and spread out. They each killed two hares and met her back at the designated place. She led them to a large shack. It was in a stage of disrepair that warranted destroying it but she showed them a hole at the backside. She used it to duck inside. The most senior of the group followed and instructed the others to wait outside until they were told to enter. He f

I slip through the hole in the ground as she stands frozen outside the door. I shift once I’m fully inside and start getting my shorts on before she has even opened the door. I’ve just about got my shirt completely on when she closes the door behind her standing with her hands pressed against the seam created between the door and the wall. “You’ve shifted.” She states slowly with a tremble in her voice. It’s the first time I’ve heard her real voice and it’s surprisingly different from how I hear her in the channel. “I’m sorry Avery. I know you’re not ready to interact with me like this but there’s something you need from me that I can’t give in wolf form.” “What do I need?” She asks suspiciously. “Comfort. Reassurance. A safe place to land as what I’m hearing tonight has me on edge and you’re even worse. Please? Let me hold you.” I make my request known yet I fear that she will comply simply from being conditioned to obey instead of an actual desire to do so. She walks slowly to

I’m getting frustrated with her answers creating one of the hardest tests I’ve encountered since Dad started me on Silvex three months ago. I let go of my link with her, providing myself the only respite that I can. ‘I don’t know how to do this.’ I whisper, not expecting an answer. ‘You know more than you’re willing to believe.’ Dad whispers sleepily. ‘Dad?’ I can’t help but whisper my shock. I have no clue if I accidentally reached out to him or if he was in a stealth link. ‘I’m not mad.’ For once he genuinely sounds hurt. ‘How long have you known?’ I ask. ‘I was restless, couldn’t sleep at the end of that first week back. I stepped out in the hallway just in time to see you head down the stairs. I reached out to Cohen three weeks ago when I noticed a pattern. I asked him to keep an eye on you without interfering unless he witnessed you losing control.’ ‘But he doesn’t patrol during this time.’ I answer, confused. ‘No, but he was willing to do it because he understands the p

Saturday, October 12th(Damian’s POV)It’s been three months since I was pulled out of my apprenticeship with the guardsmen. It was a grueling process, between the side effects of the medication, therapy and classes, to regain the control that I had lost. Dad was by my side for the first six weeks, literally. He turned control of the pack over to Patrick and went to on-call consultation. Mom continued her usual duties within the pack but reduced what she did in the afternoons. Once she came home with the girls she was done for the day. While the kitchen staff was allowed to consult with her about the dinner menu her main focus was family. It’s been weird the last few months; something about Lucas and I struggling with our wolves has inspired a closeness that hasn’t existed for a while. When dad returned to leading the pack he continued to have family night every Friday after dinner. He chose Friday because there’s no homework or anything else for anyone to run off to. Patrick, Parke

I leave his side for the bathroom, grabbing two washcloths while the water in the sink runs. I test it for hotness before wetting both cloths, adding soap to just one before returning to the bed. I wipe down his feet, using the second cloth to rinse them so he doesn’t get debris from walking barefoot outside in the bed. He’s so exhausted that he doesn’t even pull back the covers; he simply lays on top using the robe to cover himself. I return the cloths to the bathroom sink before opening the closet and retrieving a soft, flannel sheet for him to sleep with. He has never been known to sleep uncovered even during the warmest summer nights. I notice the pedestal fan and grab it before shutting the closet door. I place the fan in the middle of the floor before heading back to the bed, shaking out the sheet and covering him before sitting on the edge. A soft knock on the door jam alerts me to Lilly’s presence before she walks inside the room. “I had a feeling you would resort to one of t

Everything is quiet when Angela enters the room. I’ve been holding him in a particular position for several minutes, allowing him to float at the surface of the spa. She holds the uncapped syringe in her hand, sitting on the edge she’s able to silently press the small hypodermic needle into his thigh, pushing the contents of the syringe slowly into the muscle of his leg. It takes longer than normal due to the reduction in the size of the needle as we need him to feel as little of this as possible. She stops briefly when he tenses, allowing him to relax before finishing the injection. She leaves as silently as she came using the link to reassure me that she will remain close by as she knows that I’m going to tell him what just happened. All wolves are acutely aware of both silver and Silvex entering the body the moment that it happens. I gather him into my arms, pulling his body back down into my lap. “Dad, I’m really sleepy and everything hurts. I think we need to head home or I’m n

“Start taking your clothes off. Leave your boxers so what happens doesn’t get strange and if you don’t have any on there are two pairs on the table.” My head slowly comes up from looking down at my own body, silently trying to point out that I have nothing but a pair of shorts. He points to the tray table set up on one side of the spa. My breath catches in my chest as I realize how planned this is. I slowly start stripping off what little clothes I have access to when I have to become human before we return to the locker rooms.“No.” He finally says. “You have the misfortune of a unique situation. Calming your wolf down is the only way you will be able to think using your instincts. Just like your mother, busting into that alpha’s house and demanding your mate will have a level of consequences you don’t want to deal with.” He steps down into the spa as he speaks, standing off center giving me plenty of room to follow. I can feel my anger soften slightly as I look into his eyes; they

“Jessa, it’s very important that you give me an indicator that you are listening.” “Yes ma’am.” She takes several deep breaths. “It’s important for you and Demetri to understand that your difficulties with trust are to be expected. “I do believe that is the case.” Jessa nods. “Without proper treatment at the rehab center Waylen is young enough and small enough that one milligram of high silver injected into his thigh will kill him slowly over about five days. Helen, I can tell that he was more cautious with you. Your dose isn

“No, no, no. Not her. Please goddess what kind of alpha would do this.” Her voice is low as if she doesn’t want anyone else to hear. “Georgia, I need a lancet and quick silver test.” She calls out as she gently pulls the child’s arms from their sleeves. Georgia comes over quickly, setting a bin d

“At first my feet were flat on the ground until they started crying. I tried to turn to face them but they jacked my arms higher so I barely touched the floor. I didn’t hear any hitting but I know they were injured in some way. Hearing them scream was worse than receiving my own torture.” A sudden
