Chapter 1: Who is Mirabel

Kira's POV

"Alpha Stanley!" I yelled in anger, barging into his office.

His mate, Yvonne rolled her eyes at me, while seated on his lap. "This girl again." She let out in annoyance. I resisted the urge to smack her across the face, mess up her perfect brown hair and ruin all the makeup she had on her face.

"Yes, what is it?" Stanley asked in a gruff tone.

"What is this?" I flung the paper in my hand aggressively to the table.

It was delivered to my room hours after I got back from school. It was a letter which said I should leave the pack house as soon as I got it.

"You read it I suppose?" He asked to make sure I did.

"Of course I bloody did"

"Then what is the problem?"

I scoffed. "I can't leave this pack, I have a mate here"

"Having a mate here doesn't change who you are. A witch" he spat in anger.

My name is Kira and yes I am a witch. A hybrid to be precise. You might ask, what is a hybrid doing at a pack house? Well, this is how it happened.

I lived with my parents all my life. My mum, a witch, and my dad, a werewolf. My father was banished from his pack because of my mother's identity. They both relocated to California. Growing up, I was surrounded by werewolves. My school was a werewolf school, and my neighbors were all werewolves, but I was able to cope because no one knew I was a hybrid. Werewolf hates hybrids, especially witches.

I got my wolf-like everyone else at 18 and also found my mate, Austin. It was a thrilling moment until my parents said I couldn't be with him. They didn't want me to go through what they went through. They didn't want me to leave at a pack house due to how I might be treated, but I didn't listen. I eloped with him because I was driven by the thrills and the exhilarating moment.

Everything my mum warned me about happened. They treated me like trash. I wasn't allowed to pass the same route a werewolf took. Words even went around my new school that I was a hybrid. I started getting bullied. Both at home and in school. But I never told my mate, Austin even though he was the Beta of the pack and could easily tell Stanley to warn his pack members.

I had turned 22 the previous day. Probably Alpha Stanley realized I was old enough to survive outside the pack.

"I have a wolf's blood in me and you know it"

"Still doesn't change anything," said Yvonne when she couldn't stand me again.

"But I have a mate here"

"Your mate can go with you if he wants," Stanley said

Tears began to well up in my eyes, but I blinked rapidly to curb them from falling. I didn't want them to know they finally broke me. That my heart was finally in profound bleakness.

"You can stay for the night since it's raining heavily, but I want you out of this house in the morning"

I glared hard as I took the letter from his desk and ripped it into tiny bits. Then I threw it in their faces. "Fuck you" I muttered coldly under my breath and stormed out of his office.

"I told you she has been pretending all this while" Yvonne, the devil said after I had left.

I went to my room to pack my things. I didn't know where I was going to go, but I just kept on packing. Austin loved me and would most definitely follow me if he found out what happened, but I didn't want him to sacrifice his life for me.

After packing, I took my car keys and marched out of my room. It was raining so heavily outside that my wolf, Karina, whimpered in fear. She had always had a fear of water. I also hated driving while it rained, but I wanted to get away from that suffocating place. I didn't want to spend even a second there again.

I started my car engine and began to drive. The tears I had been trying to stop found their way down my cheeks. I cried, cursed, and screamed, but that didn't take the pain from my heart. The pain hit me like a thorn in my chest. I cried so hard that I couldn't breathe.

I took a scissor from the center console of my car and began to cut my hair. I was so broken. All I could ask myself was why? I had been strong all this while, but this was my breaking point.

My phone rang from the floor where I threw it. I peeped from where I was seated to see who it was. When I saw Austin on the screen, my agony doubled. He must have found out what happened. I  wanted to pick up the phone and tell him what happened. That I was broken and I needed him to hold me, but I didn't. I let it ring while I drove, crying my eyes out.

All of a sudden, a tree fell in front of my car. I stepped on the break, but it didn't work. "Fuck" I cursed as I turned my steering wheel to prevent my car from hitting the fallen tree, but that was a big mistake. My car went off the road and started heading inside the woods, driving at full speed. I kept on hitting the break, but nothing happened. My car just kept driving on its own.

Fear took hold of me. I swallowed hard, thinking of a way to get out, but I was so blank. It was all happening so fast.

My panic doubled when I saw a cliff edge in front. "No no no!" I cried, hitting the steering. "Stop!"I screamed, trying to use the steering, but it wouldn't work. I screamed as loud as I could as if the car could hear me.

It got to the cliff and fell over. As the car tumbled, I tumbled inside too. Even with all the fast movements, I couldn't stop thinking about Austin. I was going to die, I already accepted and he was going to be without a mate. I didn't want to break his heart like that. I didn't want him to be alone and I also didn't want to leave him. He loved me and I loved him too, but I couldn't stop a tumbling car.

"Get ready Katrina," I said to my wolf who was already trembling in fear. The car finally entered the big river. Water begins to gush inside through the window. No matter how I tried to open the door, the force of the water prevented me from doing so. I couldn't use the window because it was too small for me to get out.

I watched the car sink into the water in terror. With time water filled the car. As the water seeped into my nose and mouth, I felt life slowly slip away from me. I struggled for the first few minutes, but I eventually gave up and let nature do its job.

All of a sudden it became dark.

Kira's POV

My head banged, my mouth felt patched and my stomach hurt. I slowly opened my eyes to look around. The moment I was able to discern that I was at the hospital. My heart leaped for joy. I wasn't dead after all.

The door of the hospital room opened and a middle-aged strange woman walked in. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw me. Still astonished, she rushed to my side with her eyes, holding disbelief.

"Mirabel" she called out. "You are awake" she didn't let me talk before she ran out.

I had a lot of questions like who was this woman and who the fuck was Mirabel
