LOGIN[Ciara’s pov]
“What happened in prison?”
I wanted so much to confide in him about everything but Thomas had stopped loving me a long time ago.
So I looked away. “It is none of your concern.”
His expression hardened. “Ciara.”
I stepped around him. “Move.”
He didn't.
The Mate Bond pulsed between us and my wolf stirred again. I heard her scream in my head when she smelt Thomas’s scent.
I hated it.
I hated the way my body recognized him even when my heart wasn’t willing. Thomas suddenly reached for me, his fingers closed around my chin.
I froze. My mind went numb for a moment.
He turned my face toward the light, examining it. I couldn't bear the man who loved me to treat me like damaged merchandise.
I shoved him away. “Don't touch me.”
Thomas stepped back as I saw his expression darkened. “There is nothing wrong with you… physically. You spend five years hiding behind bars from all the people that you destroyed. You are a murderer and a coward.”
“Yes, that is who I am.” I fight back my tears so hard my nose hurts. “Your mate, the murderer. The coward. Now leave me alone!”
“Listen to me.” His voice became colder, filled with hatred. “Don't you dare think you can use our Mate Bond to get close to me again.”
I stared at him. “Believe me, I'm not trying to.”
“Good.” His eyes hardened. “Because no matter what happens between us from now on, I will never forgive you.”
I forced myself not to react. “I don't need your forgiveness.”
His brows furrowed, the answer seemed to anger him. “You haven't changed.” A bitter smile touched my lips. “You're still as heartless as you were five years ago.”
My chest tightened.
Thomas stepped closer. “You murdered my sister mercilessly.”
I said nothing.
“She was your best friend.”
My fingers curled.
“She trusted you.”
My breathing became shallow.
“She loved you like a sister, and you killed her.”
I couldn’t take it anymore, the flashes of her dead body made me restless. I looked directly at Thomas. “Then why would you agree to have a child with the woman who killed your sister?”
He went silent.
I turned away because if I stayed there any longer, I was afraid my eyes would betray me. I wanted to scream that Alicent had pushed the Princess. That my adoptive family had begged me to take the blame.
I wanted to tell Thomas how Luther had staged the crime scene so perfectly that every piece of evidence pointed toward me.
But what evidence did I have now?
Nothing.
So I remained silent and walked away.
“Ciara.”
I ignored him.
“Ciara! Stop right there!”
I kept walking, my eyes burned. I reached the staircase and hurried upward. The moment I entered my room, I stopped.
Alicent was waiting inside, she looked at me and smiled.
“What are you doing here?”
She stood. “You're supposed to be getting ready.”
“For what?”
“The banquet.”
Five years in prison for her, she still bosses me around. “I thought Luther told me to stay hidden.”
“He changed his mind.” Alicent walked toward me as if she could sense I had met with Prince Thomas.
Her eyes traveled over my face and for a brief moment, satisfaction flickered across her expressions.
“Very good patch job. You look almost presentable.”
Then she smiled sweetly. “You'll be coming downstairs.”
“I won't.”
Her smile disappeared. “You don't have a choice, sister. Change your clothes. The King and Queen are waiting for your presence.”
“Why?”
“Because you're going to greet the royal family.”
My stomach tightened.
I understood immediately. They wanted to display me as the surrogate breeder for the Alpha King.
I looked at my reflection in the small mirror.
The patch covered the worst of the damage, but I could still see the edges of the scars. I wondered what Thomas had thought when he saw them.
Alicent went away while I helplessly stared at the clothes. I had to obey, because I knew what would happen if I refused.
I followed her downstairs, and the ballroom doors opened. For a second, I couldn't breathe. This time I entered it as a convict instead of the pack heiress.
My eyes moved toward the royal family, their eyes met mine with hatred. I lowered my gaze, knowing I had expected nothing else.
Then Thomas entered beside Alicent.
My wolf stirred, but I forced it down.
“Tonight, we gather to announce an important decision regarding the future of the kingdom.”
My stomach sank even though this is not news to me. He is marrying her.
“Prince Thomas will marry Alicent Laurent and recognize her as his Luna. And because the future Alpha must produce an heir through his true Mate Bond…”
His gaze settled on me. “Ciara Laurent will fulfill her duty by bearing the future Crown Prince.”
I felt hundreds of eyes turn toward me.
“And after the child is born,” The King addressed them calmly. “Ciara Laurent’s remaining years of imprisonment will be erased permanently.”
Freedom. The word should have tempted me. Instead, it made me sick knowing what it would cost me.
“No.”
The room went silent.
The King frowned. “No?”
I looked directly at him. “I'd rather return to prison.” A gasp traveled through the ballroom.
Luther's face turned red. “Ciara. Shup up!”
I didn't look at him. “I said no.”
“You ungrateful—” He stepped toward me, I barely had time to react. His hand struck my face and a sharp pain exploded through my cheek.
My head snapped sideways as the skin patch peeled away.
It fell to the marble floor.
I stood there frozen. Then I slowly raised my hand to my cheek to cover it. My fingers touched raw, scarred skin.
I slowly lowered my hand when my eyes met Thomas's. He was staring at me but this time he was horrified. His face had gone pale.
He took one step toward me. “Ciara…”
I couldn't hear anything else because my entire world had narrowed down to one unbearable breath after another.
(Ciara POV)The screams. The memories I had spent years trying to bury. I could feel the restraints around my wrists again. Whatever happened in the hall had triggered those nightmares.I could hear the guards.I could feel the pain.My breathing became frantic while I was crouching on the floor holding my chest. “No...”I tried to move.I couldn't.“Please...”The first blow struck my shoulder. I screamed. Another hit landed against my back and I fell. My hands scraped against the floor as I tried to crawl away. “Please!”The word tore from my throat. “Please stop!”The figure laughed and I covered my head. The blows continued then someone grabbed my hair and forced my face upward.“You're a murderer.”I shook my head. “No.”“You killed her.”“No!”“I didn't!”The nightmare tightened around me and my wolf yelled in my head, she used her dormant powers to calm my trauma. My vision became blurry and eventually blackened out.My body fell on the floor with a thud, I didn't faint but I
(Ciara POV)I hadn’t figured out what to do when the guards seized me. Someone brought a stretcher and I was shoved onto it. “No! I said no!” I kept on shouting, struggling to move free from their grasps when the doctor tied the straps.I was made to kneel on the stretcher on my fours like a broodmare. “Assist the doctor in examination.” the queen demanded making other guards walk towards me. One of them pulled my body upwards from my tummy.Horror clouded my senses.I couldn’t move and instinctively looked at Thomas. My eyes pleaded to him. Say something Thomas… But he said nothing and instead stood there with his head sideways. I didn't matter to him anymore, not even as a person.Alicent has a victorious grin over her face.“Proceed with the exam.” The queen ordered.“No! I said no! Leave me alone.” I shouted, struggling. Alicent wanted to hear my screams, that's why she didn't cover my mouth instead tied my hands. “Please miss, don't move too much else you'll hurt yourself.”
(Ciara POV)From that moment forward, Alicent deliberately made me attend to her every need. She made me carry her clothes, prepare her baths and arrange her jewelry for the wedding. Alicent reduced me to the point of being her maid like others. I cleaned her room, fetched her warm food which she threw on the floor. She made me stand beside her during fittings of her wedding gowns. “How does it look? I think the neckline isn’t deep enough to catch Thomas’s attention.” Alicent tried to get a reaction from me. Sometimes she would drop something simply so I would have to bend down and retrieve it. Sometimes she would spill food on her dress and blame me for not being careful. Thomas saw all of it but he said nothing. It wasn’t like I had any expectations from him, I knew he wouldn’t protect me. My nanny was still under Alicent's control. And now I had Mia to think about too. The little girl had become my friend far more quickly than I had expected. She worked in the kitchen, and wh
(Ciara POV)I watched Thomas and Alicent get into the car together. His hand was wrapped around hers in a simple gesture. Yet somehow, it hurt more than I had expected.I stood among the servants and guards gathered outside, my hands hanging uselessly at my sides as he climbed into the carriage with Alicent. For one foolish moment, my eyes remained fixed on Thomas. His face was turned away from me and he didn't look back. I told myself that was what I wanted. After all, I had told him to leave me alone.Yet watching him leave with Alicent still felt like something was being torn out of my chest. The car door closed and just before the vehicle pulled away, Alicent turned her head and looked back at me.A silent message which made my fingers curl slowly into my palms.Know your place. She was leaving this place beside the man who had once been mine. I lowered my eyes, I had no intention of fighting her. Not anymore.A few moments later, I noticed Luther's eyes met mine, he hesitated be
(Thomas POV)The walls seemed to shrink around me with the grim silence. I couldn’t believe the woman standing in front of me was my ex-mate, Ciara.I could barely recognise her. I stared at the crates stacked against the wall and the piles of shredded clothing scattered across the floor. For several heartbeats, I could not understand what I was looking at. My mind refused to connect the pieces. Then I saw it.A small handkerchief lay on top of one of the crates. My breath stopped as I recognised it and rage coursed through my veins. The delicate embroidery along its edge was unmistakable. It was my sister's.In Ciara's room. In pieces. My eyes slowly moved toward her and I couldn’t believe Ciara actually treated my sister’s memory like this. She stood several feet away, watching me with an expression I could not read."Tell me this isn't you." My voice sounded foreign even to me.Ciara said nothing. That silence hurt more than any confession could have. It hurt more than five yea
[Ciara’s pov]Alicent stepped pompously into the room, her gaze traveling between my nanny and me with open disgust. The old woman immediately moved closer to my side cautiously. Alicent noticed her presence. She knew at once what it meant for me and it amused her. Her lips curled into a cruel smile. “How touching.” She turned toward the guards standing behind her. “Seize the crone.”My heart lurched, I couldn't breathe. I knew exactly what Alicent was capable of, and the fact that she had brought guards with her meant that she hadn't come merely to torment me with words. Two guards stepped forward and grabbed my nanny by the arms. “No!” I rushed toward them, but one of the guards blocked my path. “Leave her alone, Alicent! She has done no harm to you.”My nanny struggled weakly. “Miss Ciara! Please don’t.” I turned toward Alicent. “Why can't you leave me alone?” My voice trembled with fury. “Aren't you afraid Thomas will realize the truth one day?”I hated that she could still mak
