Taking Cameron

Havermouth, Six Years Before

Cameron paused in his sawing to wipe the sweat out of his eyes, automatically scanning to see where Heath and Rhett were at. He frowned as he spotted them through the open door out onto the balcony. Rhett was working at prying up a broken floorboard and Heath squatted beside him, draping his arm over his shoulder, leaning into Rhett and murmuring something into his ear.

Rhett’s face lit up, and he looked up from his task to Heath, his lips moving as he replied, their faces so close together that Cameron was sure that they would kiss. Heath’s eyes went to the door and met Cameron’s and he rose to his feet immediately, almost guiltily, walking over to lean in through the door. “Rhett and I thought we’d go grab the take-away and beer so we can work through until dark.”

“Okay,” Cameron replied unhappily. He wasn’t invited. Again.

“Alright. We’ll be back soon,” Heath turned. Behind him, Rhett was pulling on his t-shirt.
