ZARYA ROGOV

I stared at my parents in shock. Caesar was also there, but he wasn't alone; there was a beautiful and elegant-looking woman on his side—the daughter of Ilya Volkov.

Anna Volkov.

She was betrothed to my brother a long time ago, but why was she here?

I noticed the buckets of fruits and sweets on the table.

What was happening?

My mother's gaze landed on me, and she immediately stood up, staring at me with motherly yearning. Following her gaze, everyone's head turned in my direction.

Father stared at me with a smile, a smile I knew wasn't genuine, and brother looked at me from head to toe as if trying to make sure I was in one piece.

I hesitantly walked over to them, and my gaze went to Sergei. He was already looking at me. "Uh..." I didn't know what to say. Last time, father was yelling and cursing at me, and now he was here with all of these gifts and delicacies.

"Zarya." My mother walked over to me and pulled me in for a tight hug. I was stiff at first, but eventually

  • The Pakhan's Bride   CHAPTER 17

SERGEI MOROZOV The sound of the hospital machine beeping continuously fell on my ears as I sat in the chair by my grandfather's hospital bed. The old man held my hand in his wrinkled and weak one."You know right..." He began speaking, his voice throaty. He struggled to speak, yet he didn't stop speaking whenever I came to visit him."Your brother wasn't in love with her." He said, and my jaw twitched as I recalled the memory from eight years ago.It made my blood boil."She threatened him with the baby."*Cough* *Cough*"Don't speak anymore." I tried to suppress my commanding tone in front of him, but I just couldn't; it was rooted in me."Matvey was too soft; he fell for her tricks." He didn't stop speaking. Each word he spoke reminded me of the bitter past. "Rogov's took my Matvey." A tear slipped down his temple as he cried out. "I couldn't save him." Seeing him cry like that made my blood boil. He was once a man no different than me, and now he lay here, all sick and weak, al

  • The Pakhan's Bride   CHAPTER 15

ZARYA ROGOV My heart thudded loudly in my chest as I stared at the door, not knowing what to do. My heartbeat matched the intensity of the knocking. I looked down at the broken phone and then back at the door. Not thinking much of it, I got up and limped towards the phone. Gripping the layered phone, I limped back on the bed, opened the drawer, and shoved the phone inside before closing it. I immediately lay back down on the bed, right on my stomach. I would pretend to be unconscious if that door opened on my unfortunate ass.And it did, the door slowly creaked open, followed by slow, deliberate steps that sounded like my doom. I tensed up. I was pretending to be unconscious, but my body was as stiff as a board.I felt him moving towards my bed, and I knew it was him the moment his strong scent invaded my senses. I tried my best to remain still. I heard a few more footsteps behind him.He wasn't alone. The room wasn't completely engulfed in darkness because I kept the restroom do

  • The Pakhan's Bride   CHAPTER 14

ZARYA ROGOV "Bend over."His command took my breath away.I stared at him in disbelief through the mirror, but his expression remained unfazed. Always cold and stoic. I shook my head and began to struggle ten times harder. "You're making it hard for yourself." He whispered in my ear, his rough and deep voice sending a trail of shiver down my spine."What are you going to do?" I asked, sounding panicked because I was panicking. "I guess we'll find out.""Huh?" He let go of my wrists and gripped the back of my neck, forcing me to bend over on the dresser. My hands gripping the edge of the dresser as I tried to straighten up, but his grip held me down effortlessly. My breath turned heavy when I felt him standing right behind me.This position...My face heated up in embarrassment and humiliation."What do you think you are doing?" I snapped. The fact that I was innocent yet still receiving this punishment was infuriating. I gasped when I felt his huge hand caressing my hip sensually

  • The Pakhan's Bride   CHAPTER 13

ZARYA ROGOVI stood outside his room's door. My feet were unable to move. They were stuck. My thoughts ran wild with haunting possibilities. Why did he call me? What would he do?I took a deep breath and knocked on the door. My hands were already trembling."Get in." His voice rang in my ears like some horror spell. When I entered the room, I closed the door behind me and fisted my hands at my sides. His broad back faced me as he stood near the floor-to-ceiling glass wall. The curtains no longer hid the outside world. His hands were in his pants pocket, and his stance was one of extreme dominance and danger."Uh...I didn't p-put that much salt in it. I-I don't know how that happened. You c-can ask Alek. H-He was there a-all the time." I tried to explain myself like a pathetic loser. He didn't answer; instead, he moved towards the side table and grabbed his phone, probably calling Alek. He told the old man to come to the room, and when he came, he first gave me a good look of uncertain

  • The Pakhan's Bride   CHAPTER 12

ZARYA ROGOVThe soft breeze caressed my being, slightly making me relax as I stepped out of the mansion and onto the smooth pavement. The guards standing around the iron gate immediately got alerted after seeing me.They weren't expecting me to step out of the mansion out of nowhere. They stared at me hard until it made me uncomfortable.Ignoring them, I looked to my left where the garden was, and walked up to the shadows of the tree, scanning the beautiful flowers. They were nicely taken care of. Someone cared and loved them deeply. I took another deep inhale of the fresh nature and walked towards the roses, which were perfectly blossoming.Just as I bent down to touch one, a fragile hand gripped my wrist in a painful grip, making me yelp."Don't you dare touch them." His mother, Alisa, rasped at me before harshly pushing my wrist away, making me stumble back. I massaged my wrist while staring at her in disbelief.By her venomous reaction, it was certain she took care of this place.
