I don't know whether it was the soft purr of engines that arose me from my unconsciousness, or the strong smell of cigarettes that wafted in and out of my nose but I opened my eyes. For a while nothing registered in my head. Then I remembered. Nikolai Rozanov. The devil was back and had come for me. Someone was leaning over me. I looked up and tried to make out the figure in the dark. It was Nikolai. He held a fat cigar on between his fingers. He took a long drag and blew the smoke right in my face. " I see you're awake. " He said. Hua voice thick with his Russian accent. I tried to move but couldn't. That was when I realized that my hands and feet were bound tightly. It now dawned on me that I was in the middle of the road. Not a single soul was about. " What is the meaning of this!!!! " I yelled at him. " You're just in time for my show. You see I had to wait for you to wake up so you could witness it in a state of consciousness. " He said. " What the fuck are you going to do to me?" " I'm gonna run you over " He said calmly. " What?? " I snorted in disbelief. " Don't be stupid. " " Look at my car, pet. " Nikolai pointed. My eyes followed his fingers. A few yards from where I laid was a black Cadillac escalade. The headlights were on and the engine was running. Nikolai dropped his cigar on the floor and crushed it under his boot. He straightened up and walked lazily to the car. He opened the driver's side and got in slamming the door shut. He revved the engines. The car started moving towards me at a high speed. " WHAT ARE YOU DOING? " I yelled trying to roll out if the way but I couldn't. " Nikolai stop this madness. " My eyes widened as the headlights came nearer and nearer. " NIKOLAI!!!!! " I screamed, squeezing my eyes shut. No hit. I waited a bit before opening my eyes. The car and stopped a few inches away from me. Nikolai got out of the car. He walked to me. " I want to kill you, but I can't." He said lifting me up. " Yay. I'm grateful. " I said in a bland voice He opened the back of the car and dumped me on the floor. He whacked me on the head again and my eyes slowly closed. *************** Cold water crashed over my head. I jerked awake with a gasp. For a second, I had no idea where I was. Water dripped from my hair onto my face and coat. I blinked rapidly, trying to make sense of the room. The room had no furniture I was laying on the floor. Someone grabbed a handful of my hair and pulled me upright. I looked up. A man stood in front of me, holding the empty bucket. He was broad-shouldered, dressed entirely in black, with an expression that made it immediately clear he wasn't happy to see me. He somehow looked like Nikolai. Also had a body full of tattoos. He was like the stockier version of Nikolai. He was stocky muscular while Nikolai was lean muscular. His hair was blond where Nikolai's were Black. His icy blue eyes stared at me like they wanted to see my innermost thoughts. “Finally.” He said. I coughed. “Who the hell are you?” His jaw tightened. " I'm your worse nightmare. " He said slapping me across the face. My vision blurred. I had lost count of how many times my vision had blurred in the last few hours. " Well you're not Nikolai so you're definitely not my worse nightmare. " I said raising my hand to rub my face. I glanced at my both hands my long, red stiletto nails were all in place. Not one was broken or scratched. That almost made me clap my hand gleefully. If I came out of this alive, I will definitely give my nail artist, Cindy an award. " Then you're in for a big surprise. I don't know what Pakhan even sees in you. He should have disposed of you a long time ago. Worthless piece of rubbish. " " Worthless!!!!! " I shrieked. "Don't insult me darling. I'm currently worth fifteen billions dollars in asset. " " Well your net worth doesn't count here. " He said giving me a wicked grin. " I don't even think you're that rich. Even if you are it must have taken decades to get there. I got there in four years " He signaled to the second man. He nodded and held me while the one who held me by the hair, let go of my hair and held my other arm. " A smart mouthed thing has no place here. " He said. " Here you'll have to learn respect and I have taken it upon myself to teach you just that. " " Wow... " I began but the words died abruptly in my throat as a solid fist connected to my midsection. I gasped. The men held me steady as the man, whoever he was delivered hard blows. The blows landed everywhere. My face, chest, ribcage. Everywhere. I couldn't scream. Not because I didn't want to but my voice box couldn't produce any sound. " Big brother " I heard a small authoritative voice call out. The punches stopped. " Don't bruise him so much. You know Uncle hates bruised bodies. " The voice said. The men let go of me and I fell to the ground. I weakly raised my head and saw a slim girl about early twenties standing by the doorway. She was tall and had silky black hair like Nikolai's. " What are you doing here, Mary Jo." The man groaned out. " Leave us. " The girl ordered. " I want to talk to him." " Are you sure about that? " The man who had been beating me asked. " Yes. Now leave. " One by one they went out of the room closing the door behind them. " You are the one. " " Ummm... " I said wiping the blood from the side of my mouth. " You're the one who betrayed my Uncle. " She said " Yup... That would be me. " " I hope you die painfully. " The hate in her voice was deep. " I hope you go through the same pain you put my Uncle through. " I chuckled. Another person who hated me. Join the queue, honey. " Well if you can't tell I'm already in a lot of pain. " I said. " Pain??? You think this is pain??? You haven't seen anything yet. This is just the beginning. " I smiled. " Okay, honey. " " Enjoy smiling while it lasts cause soon you'll have no reason to. " She said walking to the door She turned the knob. Turning her head to take one last look at me, She said, " Welcome to hell. "Dominique. I had fallen asleep in the exact spot they had left me. I didn't even remember closing my eyes. The pain in my body had eventually dulled enough for exhaustion to take over, and I had been too tired to care where I slept. The sound of the door opening pulled me out of it. Footsteps approached. I kept my eyes closed. A slight nudge against my leg made me flinch. “Get up.” I slowly opened my eyes. Roman stood over me, his expression hard. Behind him was a short haired woman in a lab coat, carrying a medical bag. I pushed myself up on one elbow, immediately regretting it when pain shot through my side. Roman's jaw tightened. “You could at least ask how he's doing.” I looked at him. “Who?” His eyes narrowed. “The Pakhan.” I stared at him for a moment before looking away. “I don't care.” Roman scoffed. “You shot him.” “He shot my boyfriend and abducted me and my family.” “ That bullet could have killed him.” “Well I'm guessing i
Nikolai. Shit! That piece of shit really shot me. Thank goodness it was my arm. Dmitri was holding me trying to apply pressure on the wound. My boys, almost a dozen of them had gathered and were beating up Dominique. I should let them beat him to death but he could only die by my hands. No one else had the right to take his life not even him. " Enough!" I yelled. Everyone stood still but one of the boys made sure he added an extra kick. Dominique was writhing and groaning in pain. " Call Andrea. " Dmitri said to Roman. Roman rushed out with another of my boys. The rest rallied round me shouting and panicking. They half carried me out of the room down to the east wing where my room was. " Put me down you dimwits and quit fussing. " I said irritatedly. They helped me onto the sofa, arranging my legs on the table. " Pakhan. Are you okay? " Rusev said massaging my legs. " Get him water!" " It's just my arm you fools. I'm not dying. I've survived worse. " " Wh
Dominique. The room was too comfortable for a place where I was being held against my will. I sat on the bed looking out the window. Only one thing on my mind. Escaping. But how? I don't think I would even be able to step out of this room. So how would I escape? I was so deep in thought that I didn't hear the room door open. I thought it was Roman coming to check on me but then that familiar scent hit me. I turned. Nikolai stood in the doorway. He was dressed entirely in black. A fitted shirt beneath a long black coat, dark trousers, and polished boots. The top buttons of his shirt were undone, exposing the faint line of his collarbone. His dark hair was slightly disheveled, a few strands falling across his forehead as though he hadn't bothered fixing it. There was something different about him. He looked exhausted. Not weak. Never weak. Just... worn around the edges. And somehow, that only made him more attractive. The scar cutting across his left eye mad
Dominique ( Present day ) I had no idea how long I had been kept inside the empty room. My chest was hurting badly and I was having trouble breathing. I think they may have broken my ribs. I laid on the floor holding my belly with my eyes closed wondering if Nikolai had fulfilled his promise of taking Doug to the hospital. I wondered if Doug was fine. I also wondered where my mom and Asher were being kept. I began counting to help me drift off but my counting was interrupted by the sound of the door being opened. I refused to open my eyes, hoping that whoever came in would go out soon. " Get up. " A voice said. I slowly opened my eyes and weakly raised my head. A tall guy, maybe a little older than me stood in the room lazily twirling a gun in his left hand. " Why? Where are we going?" I asked. " Your room. " " My what? " " The Pakhan has ordered that you be given a room. " I snorted. " The Pakhan. " I said in a tone of disbelief. " I will never get over the
Nikolai (Present day) I was never a righteous man. In fact, I was probably closer to hell than heaven. I had ordered deaths. Destroyed businesses. Ruined men who thought their money could buy them immunity. I had done things most people would never forgive. But I had a line. Innocent people. I never crossed it. That was why they called me the Black Judge. I didn't believe in mercy for men who didn't deserve it. I believed everyone eventually answered for what they had done. For years, I had served justice to other people. Now I had returned to serve it to myself. I had to wait for four whole years. I wasn't a very patient man but I had to. That was the only way justice could be served. They were all going to pay one by one, including the one person I had loved. Dominique. He stood in that courtroom and looked me in the eyes while he destroyed everything I had built. He knew me. He knew what I was. He knew what loving me meant. And he still chose to
Dominique The words barely registered. “What?” “Take him away.” “Dad, what are you talking about?” Two officers grabbed my arms. I tried to pull away. “Dad!” He didn't answer me. His eyes stayed on Nikolai. Nikolai was already surrounded by officers, his hands restrained behind his back. He looked completely calm. Too calm. “Nikolai!” His eyes found mine. For one brief second, everything else disappeared. Then one of the officers dragged me toward a waiting police vehicle. “ What is going on?” I shouted. " We haven't done anything. " Nobody answered. By the time they put me inside the interrogation room, I had asked the same question so many times that my throat hurt. Nobody gave me an answer. They took my phone. They took my watch. They took everything from my pockets. Then they left me sitting alone beneath a harsh fluorescent light. I stared at the door. Where was my father? Why had he arrested me? And what the hell was happeni
