The Pales A New Base
They disappeared back into the forest and we soon heard the roar of engines being turned on. About three dune buggies rolled out of the woods onto the highway. Daniels yelled to mount up and the convoy got into their respective Humvees. As they got in, the dune buggies took off and the convoy followed. After about fifteen minutes of following them they turned down a dusty road with a broken checkpoint and the convoy followed for another five minutes until they came to a concrete set of doors and a large concrete wall with what seemed to be plywood walls at the top with peepholes, for gun fire. Daniels thought this was smart. It would minimize casualties from Pale jumps, the base itself seemed large, it seemed about two kilometers wide and the wall covered the whole base instead of a wired fence with barbed wire.mThe doors slowly opened up and the now larger convoy drove in. The Pales The Ruined City Part Two
The Pales could be heard from all over as the convoy raced through the city. Their screams, howls and shrieks were everywhere. Daniels had no idea there were so many Pales in this city, and he prayed to god they would all make it out alive. He could only pray and rely on Richards driving skills as they attempted to flee the city.Suddenly the Pales were closing in, as Daniels heard them closer than the last wails from earlier. Then all of sudden the middle Humvee, with the civilians and Anderson, got knocked out of the convoy! The screech of metal being bent can be heard. Daniels felt a shiver of anger and fear as their wails faded behind the convoy.Their screams could be heard, driving off, in the rearview mirror he could see the bodies of Pales filling their headlights and darting out of their way as we kept going towards the exit of the city as fast as the convoy could. Zane’s POVZane watched from a distance as Bellman, Daniels and Michael had a conversation around the smoking Humvee. They talked for a minute and then Daniels headed over to his squad. ***The night went by with no disturbances. The convoy was on the road by 08:00, the convoy was getting closer to New York and Daniels didn’t know what to expect. Ruined city view was expected but how ruined? Were there any survivors still in the city or was it overrun with Pales? If there were survivors, would they be friendly or hostile, having survived eight to ten years on their own? These questions flowed in his head as he fell asleep. The two hallways stretch into the building on the right and left of the desk that was stationed right in front of them by about 10 meters. They were dark and had a scent of mold and decay about them.The building was a mess. It had clearly been overrun. There were dried bloodstains from corpses being dragged on the floor and bloody, smeared handprints on the walls. These trails were mostly in the hallway to the right. Everyone exited the Humvees and gathered in the parking lot. From what Zane could see Daniels was the highest rank, besides the other Sergeant. His insignia was different from Daniels but he assumed it was Sergeant anyways. This Sergeant was about 6’1, he was an african american man with finely toned muscle. Zane could not see his hair, but green eyes shone from beneath his bandana that he wore on his face. His eyes were bright against his skin tone. Zane assumed he had a shaved head with a finely shaved beard. His men were all a little shorter than him. They looked like hardened men. Their faces were covered with bandanas and their helmets were black as well. They all have different designs on them, the Sergeant’s has a skull and crossbones. It was on top of the helmet.
