Jasmine's Pov.

I walked up to him, unfazed. “Without me, Enoch, you're nothing but a spoiled boy playing pretend in a man's world.”

“Crack!”

The force sent me stumbling back a step as a sharp sting exploded on my cheek.

My ears rang and my room spun.

Did he just slap me?

Slowly, I turned back to look at him. His chest heaved and his eyes were dark with rage.

“How dare you insult me?!” He roared. Don't make me laugh! Melody was the one who introduced those collaborators to the company and even worked her way through the Ives conglomerates. And guess what? They've invested into my company and what about you? You're just a pretty face who just go luck—”

“Smack!”

Before he could finish his words, my palm met his cheek with a brutal force as Melody’s gasps filled the air.

The rage in his eyes vanished, replaced by a disbelieving Shock as he cracked his cheek. “What did you just—”

“Sign. The. Damn. Papers,” I enunciated word for word, anger radiating from my pores.

Enoch snatched the pen from the table and scribbled his name with angry strokes. “Fine. You want this? Done. Get out.”

The ink has barely dried when I snapped my fingers. A man in a tailored suit entered, his presence commanding instant attention. He walked straight to Enoch and held out his hand.

“The keys,” he said, voice cold and firm.

Enoch blinked, caught off guard. “What?”

“Car keys. Hand them over.”

“What car keys are you talking about? That's… that's my car.”

“No, they're not. They're mine. In fact, I bought it for you.” I said, chin raised.

He scoffed, not understanding what was happening. “That's a lie. I won it in a lucky pool fair and square.”

I tsked. “And papers don't lie.” Another snap of my fingers and the top autos dealer came walked in.

“It's true me Smith. The lady here bought the car two years ago and made me lie that you won it in a pool. The car really belongs to her.”

“What?!” Samantha and Melody yelled collectively, finally woke up from their seeming trance from all that was happening.

Before he could say further, my driver snatched the keys from his hold and bowed down to me. “Boss, the keys.”

The word, ‘boss’ detonated in the room like a bomb.

Enoch’s face drained of color as I held out my hand. My driver a set of keys into my palm with a satisfying clink.

Before their shock could settle, the doorbell rang. A courier stepped in, carrying a beautiful velvet box.

“A delivery for Mrs Samantha,” he said. “And it's said to be delivered anonymously.”

Inside was the necklace I had bought in advance to appease Samantha. Her eyes twinkled with greed the moment she laid her eyes on it.

“Oh, mine, this is so beautiful, and you bought it for me?” she smiled, reaching for it.

“Yes, I bought it for you mom.” In a blink, Melody was already standing beside Samantha.

Samantha reached for the box, but the delivery guy stepped back, making her frown. “What are you doing? It's mine, so hand it over!” She yelled.

“Uh, it's states here that it will be paid for during the delivery. Sorry, you'd have to pay for it first.”

She eagerly turned to face Melody who suddenly looked pale.

Inside, I laughed, looking at show before me. She thought it had been paid for and wanted to take the praise. But what's praise without work?

“Go ahead Melody. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and pay up.” Samantha urged. “I can already imagine how good it'll look on me.”

“It would, but not anymore,” I said, bored. “I bought the necklace and it belongs to me.”

“What? You? A servant claiming to have bought this necklace? What a joke!” Melody bragged. “I bought it.”

I exhaled lazily. “Okay, go ahead and pay up.” I shrugged.

She turned to look at the delivery guy. “How much is the jewelry? I'll pay now.”

“Oh, it's the sum of five thousand dollars only,” he said and Melody choked!

“What? Five thousand?! That's… huge!”

Without another word, I stretched my card towards the guy. “Here, swipe for debit.”

I signed the slip and tucked my card along with the box into my bag.

“Hey, that's mine,” Samantha hissed, reaching for it.

“Not anymore.”

Her face twist with rage. “You dare—!”

Her hand shot out for the slap she'd given me so many times before, slaps I'd endured many times before. But this time, I moved first. My palm cracked across her cheek with a sound that echoed through the house.

The room went silent, pin drop kind of silence. I had dared slept the Smith's matriarch.

Samantha stumbled back, clutching her face just like her son did. “You—you wretched—!”

“Try it again,” I gritted out slowly, “and I'll make sure you're begging on the streets by nightfall.”

Her eyes darted to Enoch, based on the fact he's received his fair taste of my palm, he said nothing, tail in-between his thigh. His pride was bleeding, his silenve, my sweetest victory.

I pulled out my phone and made a single call. Within minutes, a black limited edition Maybach glided up the driveway, the engine purring like a predator.

I turned to them one last time. “Enjoy the house while you can. The eviction notice will arrive shortly. You're are to move out of my property in two days,” and then I was gone.

Their laughter was gone now, replaced by stunned silence. Even Melody's poisonous tongue had no words.

I slipped on my sunglasses and walked out, Derek opening the car door with a grin of pure admiration.

“Remind me never to get on your bad side,” he joked.

“Too late bro,” I joked back, effortlessly sliding into the soft leather seat. “This is just the beginning. The collaboration will be next. For now… let them choke on their borrowed wealth.”

Jasmine's Pov The deafening bass of the blaring music slowly faded into a slow, soft song that hummed beneath my ribs, but it did nothing to calm the storm brewing in my heart. Because the dead rose was still in my palm, its petals dried and wilted like something that had already given up. And that tag… that damn message on the tag that read: “I've been watching you rebuild. It would be a shame… to break you again. Just like the rose in your hand, they die when crushed, and you, Jasmine, would be like that rose.Soon.”It shouldn't have, but a cold shiver crawled up my spine, just as a voice brushed the back of my neck. I took a deep breath to steady myself and couldn't help but wonder why today had to be weird. The voice was low, unhurried, and all too familiar. “Seems someone finally received the package I sent… after so many rejections.”For a heartbeat, every muscle in my back locked and recognition punched through me so fast I forgot how to breathe.Lowering himself, he to

Enoch’s pov“You're not the one who usually answers the door. But are you Mrs Smith?” he asked in a clipped professional tone, glancing down at the name maybe to check if he asked right. “Yes, I am.”“Good. Your order has arrived. I'll need payment and your signature to complete delivery.”Payment?I straightened immediately, tension crawling up my spine. Thinking about it now, I've not really paid attention to my mom's health, all thanks to Jasmine. I'd been so busy with starting my own company that I let her handle almost everything. “It's fine. I'll handle it,” I said, moving towards them. The man's eyes narrowed. “And you are—?”“Oh, he's my son,” my mother replied proudly. His stance eased, and he handed me the clipboard. “Then, that's even better. In that case, sign here… and here. Total is listed at the top.”I frowned, thinking why he said it's better I was the one… but that's not what I need to start thinking right now. I barely glanced down, and the numbers slapped me ha

Enoch's Pov:“Mom, how many times do I have to tell you I can't go out because I don't have a fucking car?!” I thundered down the stairs, dragging frustrated fingers through my hair. Every step felt like it was grinding against the last nerve I had left. Why was this so damn hard for her to understand? Maybe I'd consider sleeping at the office from now on. Mother followed behind me, voice raised in that shrill, dramatic pitch she used whenever things weren't going her way. “Then get another one already! Even a better one to spite that Jasmine bitch! Moreover, I have the women's meeting event coming up soon and I can't afford to be seen flagging down a taxi!”I spun around so fast she nearly walked into me. My jaws clenched. “Mom… I'm trying, okay?” I hissed, half whisper, half shout, hoping maybe lowering my tone would finally drill the truth into her head. “But it just seems like the auto stands in the whole city of San Francisco suddenly increased their prices. But I'll keep tr

Jasmine's Pov I pushed open the boardroom doors and nearly collided with Derek. Of course he was standing there, leaning casually against the wall like he was posing for a luxury cologne ad. Handsome and impeccable as always, he looked nothing short of a model straight out of a magazine. Tall, sharp-jawed and annoyingly perfect. But I still rolled my eyes at him. Hard. “Took you long enough,” I huffed, brushing past him. “So much for a short call.”He pushed himself off of the wall, guilt flickering across his stupidly handsome face. “I'm sorry, sis. Really. Something important came up.”“Oh?” I shot back. “More important than your sister who just returned to save the kingdom after two years?”“That's not fair,” he protested softly. “It wasn't more important than you… it was my girlfriend.”I didn't make it three steps before my curiosity yanked me right back around. “Hold on.” I folded my arms. “Girlfriend? Since when?”Derek winced… winced like a man caught in a lie he never int

Jasmine's Pov “Argent Dynamics,” I repeated, my brow arching up. “Samuel Argent specifically asked to see me?” She nodded crisply. “Yes, ma'am. He's been…rather persistent.”Rhea’s words, spoken so professionally, made my pulse stutter. What's it, three years already? The thought of seeing him again made something cold crawl up my spine. I couldn't… no. I wouldn't let him face me. Not yet. “Then handle it yourself, like you always do,” I ordered, keeping my tone even. “I tried to ma'am,” she continued hesitantly, her eyes raising up to meet mine. “But he said it was a matter of mutual interest… and that the discussion should be with you. Directly.”The way she said ‘directly’ made my breath hitch. A slow breath escaped me as I leaned back in my chair, forcing composure over the storm building inside. Of course he wouldn't let go that easily. He never did. If he was persistent, then I was going to meet him anyway. “Schedule a meeting with him tomorrow evening.” Whatever I felt at

Jasmine's Pov Derek placed his long index finger on the start button and the car came to life. He handed me an uncapped bottle of water, and then pressed on the accelerator. Putting on my safety belt, I took a sip before going through one of the many documents that I needed to go through. “So what's your call? Should I just start pulling out our collaboration with Star Tech company?” Derek asked before focusing his gaze on the road. The expression on my face scrunched up in mock confusion. “Sorry, remind me what Star Tech is again?” Derek briefly glanced at me with a confused gaze. “Um, Enoch's startup tech company?” “Ohhhh,” I dramatically gasped, acting like I just recalled what it was, and who owned it as if I had no prior knowledge about it before, and honestly, that's what it seems now. If Enoch could go low, then I could go even lower than he did. Derek frowned. “You're not acting like the sister I used to know,” and then chuckled. “What's with this new high?”I rolled m
