Damien's point of view

I'd been seated here for over four hours, each candidate worse than the last. I mean, how difficult is it to find someone to pay five million dollars to have your child?

As if having a terrible day wasn't enough already, I had to stumble upon the rudest, most foolish woman I've ever met. And I've met plenty of foolish, unreasonable women in my life.

This woman scratched my car as I was parking in the hospital garage, spilled water all over my clothes, made me have to go back home to change, and still had the audacity to call me names.

What was it she called me again?

A blind, pompous, bloody, dumb daddy's boy. A lot of adjectives to describe someone she'd never met before in her whole life.

Now she sat opposite me, eyes fixed on the tile floor like a new discovery was being made.

"I said get the fuck out of here." She wiped her dry hands with the corner of her clothes.

"Hold on, sir—" She started. Oh, now I was a sir.

"Just go wait in reception," Fredrick intervened.

Her shoulders caved inward as she walked out — a sheer ghost of the vibrant, agile, vile woman who'd been cursing me out.

"What is the problem with her, sir?" Fredrick sighed after she left. The first act of defiance he'd ever shown me. I guess being in the same place for over four hours does something to people.

Proud of him.

"I don't like her." I knew I sounded rather childish right now, but I didn't owe anyone an explanation for whatever decisions I made.

"She's the best match we've found so far. With your blood group, it'll be difficult to find someone compatible who can have your child without deficiencies and risks. We might not find another. We're lucky to have found this one."

Reasonably, I should agree with the doctor, the professional. But I wasn't feeling too reasonable right now. "She's a fucking drunk."

Not that I'd caught her drinking or anything, but that was the only reasonable explanation for how she'd acted when we met earlier.

I mean, who drinks before coming to a surrogacy job interview? A damned addict, that's who.

And I don't want an addict carrying my child.

"There's no record of addiction on her," Fredrick said, glancing back at the computer on his lap.

Now these two were getting on my nerves.

"I saw her before I came in — she was drunk." I let my head fall back against the seat before my irritation got the better of me.

"That wouldn't be possible. Reception wouldn't let a drunk sit and wait for the interview."

"What are you implying?" the doctor cut back.

"If you truly have a problem with her, we'd find someone else. It might take some time, and you'd risk testing with one of the possible matches to your blood type."

A flash of purple caught my eye in the left corner of the room. She wasn't covered in blood this time, and her hair was dyed pink — like my junior year of high school.

You always do this, she mouthed, before disappearing.

I always did what?

Deep down, I knew what she meant. How couldn't I? I've thought about the same thing for years.

I felt the deep hole on my heart— that never seemed to want to heal— rumble again.

I was being selfish.

I am letting another woman risk her life for me.

Die for me.

I wouldn't let that happen, not again.

"It's fine. She'll do."

The two of them stared at me like I'd grown a horn in the middle of my head, and not one they particularly liked.

I put my shades back on, heading out.

I needed a smoke.

Louisa's point of view I slept for the majority of the flight. Before and after our... session, and everyone definitely knew what we had been up to, judging by the looks on their faces. "They all definitely know." "No, they don't." Even he didn't believe that himself. He drew me closer, planting a kiss on the top of my head, and it felt good. I let myself melt into it. And while I wasn't past his and Claudia's relationship, I wasn't worried about that now. It was just him and me, and he loved me. That was enough. The entire offloading and ride to the car was seamless. Damien held onto me the whole drive, which felt unusual but not terrible. It felt like something I wouldn't mind getting used to. Was this how vacation Damien acted? "You're extra touchy," I said halfway to the hotel. He dragged me closer, taking a deep breath against my skin, reminding me that I hadn't showered in twenty-four hours. Nasty! "Maybe I've just really missed you." He moaned into me, and my cor

  • The Perfect Match; Billionaire's Surrogate Mother    Chapter 88

Damien s Point Of View We ended up taking the night flight after missing the initial one, and I didn't regret it.We got to spend quality time together, and I also got time to think past the blur of everything that was going on.The two-year mark was coming closer, and I wasn't any closer to having a child. My eyes caught the text that had just popped up from Smith, my new lawyer.I had texted him in a rush of emotions last night after Louisa got her period. I asked him to keep an eye out for new surrogates.Looking back at it now, it might not have been the best next course of action, but it was all I could think of then.I had acted on impulse, but now… I turned to Louisa, who was sleeping next to me. It felt like I was doing something wrong.Like maybe I should have asked her thoughts about it first, or not done it at all. Maybe. Maybe. But I'd done it now, and there was no need to tell her, at least not until I had found a specific one."We've tracked down five potential women,"

  • The Perfect Match; Billionaire's Surrogate Mother    Chapter 87

Damien's Point of ViewLouisa waited for me outside the airport, our flight scheduled to leave in the next hour. She was on her phone, completely unaware of her surroundings even after I got close to her."Hey." She turned off her phone at the sound of my voice, but I got a glimpse of what she was doing before then.Texting Marcus. My jaw tightened against my will, and I did my best to just ignore it. It doesn't matter."Hey." She replied dismissively without looking at me, her eyes fixed on the terminal."I'm sorry I was late. I needed—""To tuck Claudia into bed?" She rolled her eyes.My chest tightened with anger. It was so unfair that she got to act like I was the terrible person for being with my childhood friend in her time of need when she was constantly texting another man."Don't you think you're being hypocritical?" I said, beyond myself."What?" She swung her head at me, giving me her first glance since I got there."You're being hypocritical. Acting all jealous about Claud

Louisa's Point of ViewJust like I had said, I followed Damien to be with Claudia while he comforted her and stayed by her side on her mother's memorial."Thank you for coming with me," Damien said as we parked outside a rich people's cemetery.I forced a smile, the best I could offer. "It's no issue."He nodded, hesitating for a moment. "Things with Claudia, it's complicated. She's very… fragile right now. Emotional…""I understand, Damien." I interrupted, and he shook his head."No, she might have some outbursts and throw tantrums. Just please, overlook it. For my sake. She needs people around her at this moment who wouldn't judge her." He took my hands in his, looking at me gently, like he was asking me to endure another woman's behavior.I swallowed. "Is there something you're not telling me?"He let me go. "It's not my story to tell. All I can say is Claudia is a great person going through a lot. Just keep that in mind, would you?"I nodded, extremely confused about whatever was

Louisa's Point of ViewI lay down with my head on Damien's lap, watching a movie I was only half interested in. My head was elsewhere, and I think so was Damien's.He had been off since we got back from work. He'd barely even looked at me and just agreed to whatever I said.I didn't point it out, holding on to the belief that he'd talk to me when he was ready. We made it exactly forty minutes into the movie before I felt that familiar, unmistakable ache low in my stomach that meant exactly what I didn't want it to mean.I excused myself quietly, mumbling something about the bathroom.Damien didn't really pay me much attention, just mumbled an equally incomprehensible sound of acknowledgement. I made it to the bathroom, sat on the edge of the tub, and confirmed what I already knew.My panties were stained red with blood that looked like it had been bleeding for a while now.Meaning one thing. Not pregnant. It hit me more than I would like to admit. It felt like I was disappointing him.

  • The Perfect Match; Billionaire's Surrogate Mother    Chapter 84

Damien's Point of ViewI closed my eyes, leaning my head further down my chair as I tried to stop thinking about this morning.Don't! Stop, stop, stop!It was like being eight again and forcing myself not to think about the pain I felt whenever Grandfather whipped me, but just like before, it didn't work.Personally, I believed that I wasn't a really jealous person. I understood others, and I trusted my partner not to be with other people. I never felt like this when I was with Caroline. But still, my mind just couldn't stop going back to the text I accidentally read."I'd really love for us to meet up again. I've missed you," from Marcus.Friends missed friends all the time. Friends text friends all through the day and say sweet things and—Bullshit!I knew for a fact that the man was trying to hit on my girl, but what was I to do about it?Tell her to stop talking to him? That's obsessive for a new relationship.I spun in the seat. "Gosh! This is such a schoolboy feeling."Thankfull
