Accepting The Deal

Nyx’s Pov

I was still trying to adjust to the lavish suffocation of Caspian’s home and his creepy words when he leaned closer and asked, “What if we signed a deal?”

“What deal? I am not interested in any of your silly games, Alpha Caspian” I said, turning down whatever he had in mind.

But with that same maddening smirk, he snapped his fingers. “Alright. Maybe you need to feel refreshed then and feel at home.” He said and stood up.

He pulled out his phone and the next thing was the maids rushing in one after the other.

“Get her washed up and change her clothes. I want her back to me, and bring her back when she’s done.”

They gently pulled me along like I didn’t have a choice in the matter and I was out of Caspian’s sight. I didn’t argue, I was tired, messy, and angry, and honestly, I wanted a damn shower.

I cleaned myself up in a warm bath with flowers, brushed my tangled hair, and they gave me a dress. I was in the softest, silkiest nightie I’d ever touched. But the second I looked at myself in the mirror, my stomach twisted. It was light, too light. Sheer in places that made my skin prickle. It felt good, I hadn't felt that way in days now.

I just couldn't take a hold of why Caspian would go this far to do everything to make me feel free. I deserve freedom, but nothing would seem better until I had my son back in my arms and those jerks on those knees begging for mercy.

The maids led me to a room. I hesitated at the threshold when I saw Caspian—seated by the window, one leg crossed over the other, a drink in his hand, and his gaze, slow and deliberate as it moved over me.

He was staring harshly at me, almost as if he didn't realize when I entered and I was just there.

I cleared my throat sharply. “Alpha Caspian.”

His gaze snapped up to reality, like he was caught doing something sinful. He arched a brow like he wasn’t the least bit sorry. “You clean up well.”

I ignored that. “We didn’t finish our conversation.”

He tilted his glass lazily. “There’s nothing to finish. Go to bed, Nyx.”

“Am I allowed to have my own room, or is this some weird ‘Alpha hospitality’ thing?”

He smirked again, then stood. That same dangerous calm around him made the air feel thinner.

“I couldn't let you go to bed looking all messy, could I?”

“Why did you tell them to dress me like this? I could have had a better thing to wear than this.” I protested, my gaze sharply placed on him. “Is this another game to see how far you can push me before I snap?”

He moved closer, so close I could smell the cedarwood in his scent again. “I told you I have a deal for you. Whatever I do, you’ll need to accept it.”

“No, that's not okay” I said instantly. “Tell me what you want. I’m not accepting anything blindly.”

He exhaled slowly like I was draining the last of his patience. “The reason you’re here—why I brought you into my home, is because I need you to fulfill something for me.”

I frowned. “I have nothing for you.”

He reached up, gently tucking a loose strand of my hair behind my ear, his fingers grazing the back of my neck. That single touch sent an unexpected shiver down my spine. I hated how my breath caught.

“Oh, you have more than you think,” he said, lowering his voice, “I need a cure from you.”

My brows shot up. “Cure? Cure for what?”

He grabbed my wrist as I tried to step away, not hard, but firm. His eyes burned into mine. “If you don’t get your acts together, Nyx, you might lose and lose… I mean forever. And I can’t lose. If you want to, fine—do it on your own. But I won’t.”

I blinked, stunned. My heartbeat thundered.

He let go. “Find out however you need to. If you're ready to find the cure, I'll tell you what I need it for.”

“I’m not some healer, Alpha Caspian! I don’t even know what’s wrong with you. And I’m not listening to you. I have my son to find.”

“You’ll do it.” His voice dropped. “Eventually. But first you need to know what you're going to get for doing it alone.”

Right. I couldn't take back Liam alone from Zade. He's manipulative and I…I couldn't try to let him think I was still as weak as he saw me.

“Go to bed. You'll need it.” Alpha Caspian cut through my thoughts.

He walked out, leaving me there with a dozen questions that burned like fire behind my ribs.

I still couldn't sleep later at night. The silence in the mansion was way too heavy, too unnatural and I suddenly needed air.

I stepped into the hallway quietly and wandered toward the garden windows, but froze when I heard voices.

Two ladies stood by, I presumed they were part of the maids in the pack. They were whispering, and with calmness, I strained my ears.

“…the Alpha finally found his mate.”

A sharp giggle followed. “About time. Maybe now everything will go back to normal and we'll be at ease in the pack. It's almost as if he has been at war with himself.”

I pressed my back to the wall and swallowed hard.

His mate?

Me? I really hoped that wasn't me.

No. That’s not what this is. This can’t be what this is. Was it a good thing? A bad thing?

“Yeah. And he even asked us to set a bath for her. He never does that for his mistresses and now he has sent them all out. She's definitely his mate!”

I listened closely and thought, “Does he really need a cure? Was it important?”

I stood there in the moonlight lit hallway, my hand instinctively rested on my abdomen. The place where my son used to kick.

Is this the way I get my son back?

Nyx's Pov Ryker’s face looked surprised to see me. His eyes scanned behind me quickly, like he expected someone to be with me, and then he pulled me inside without another word. “How are you here, Nyx?” he asked quietly, closing the door. I looked at him, uneasy. “I… I needed to clear my head. Is something wrong? Where’s your family? Where’s your wife and your daughter?” He guided me to the small couch in his living room. The house looked the same, but quieter. He sat down across from me, his hands trembling slightly. “They’re safe, Nyx,” he said after a long pause. “I’m just surprised to see you.” I frowned. His voice was steady, but his body wasn’t. I saw the way his fingers wouldn’t stay still, the way his shoulders stiffened like he was holding something back. “You’re lying,” I whispered. Ryker froze. I leaned forward, my heart pounding. “What aren’t you telling me? Something’s wrong, isn’t it?” For a moment, he said nothing. Then he sighed and rubbed his face with both

Nyx's Pov Leaving Caspian was the hardest thing I had ever done. And to be honest, I didn’t want to. Every part of me wanted to stay. To run back to him, to tell him that I didn’t need words, that I would settle for his silence if it meant I could keep him. But another part of me knew better. If I stayed, I’d keep second guessing everything. I’d keep wondering if his silence meant he didn’t love me. I’d keep breaking myself against walls that might never come down. So I told myself the truth. I had to leave. That night, long after the lamps had burned low, I rolled my small suitcase out of my room. The sound of the wheels on the floorboards was too loud, too final. My chest hurt with every step. The guards in the hall looked at me, their eyes wide, but none of them moved. They only bowed their heads slightly, stepping aside as if they had been told not to interfere. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I paused in front of Caspian’s home office. The door was closed, but I

Nyx's Pov I had been waiting for him. All day, I had sat in my room, the silence pressing down on me. His voice at my door earlier had lingered, each word echoing in my head. He had said I meant a lot to him. He had said everything he did, he did because he cared. I wanted to believe him. Gods, I wanted to. But the ache inside me was too deep. My thoughts were too tangled. He didn't say the one thing I needed to hear. When I asked him that question, all I wanted was for him to tell me that he would love me. That he did love me. He had been silent and I had felt like a fool. So I had made a decision. I needed space. Not because I wanted to run, and not because I didn’t care. I cared too much. That was the problem. The feelings I had for Caspian were overwhelming. And I couldn’t tell if what he felt for me was anywhere near the same. I couldn’t stay in this house another day without clarity. I couldn’t stand in front of him, love in my chest and hope in my eyes, only to kee

Caspian's Pov The house was too quiet. It had been like that since the moment Nyx shut the door in my face the night before. I had stood outside her room for hours, talking, apologizing, begging her to answer me. She hadn’t said a single word. I thought maybe she was asleep, but when I carried food up to her door the next morning, I knew she wasn’t. I had left the tray there and walked away, telling myself to give her space. Thirty minutes later, I passed by again and found that the food was untouched. Only the tea cup was missing. Relief had rushed through me at the sight of it. At least she had drunk something. At least she wasn’t starving herself out of anger or pain. But that relief had been thin. It didn’t last long. Because the truth was I had hurt her. I told myself I had done the right thing by keeping quiet, by not letting her know how badly I bargained to bring her here. I thought silence would protect her. I thought sparing her the weight of my sins was better than

Nyx's Pov Guilt spread across his expression like a shadow. His jaw tightened, his eyes softened, but the weight in them gave me the answer I already feared. My chest felt heavy, and I swallowed hard, the words trembling in my throat. “How much, Caspian?” I repeated, sharper this time. He opened his mouth, his voice low. “Nyx…” “No.” I cut him off. I shook my head, my hands curling into fists at my sides. “Don’t call my name like that. Don’t try to soothe me. I need the truth. I need to know. I have a right to know.” His lips pressed together. For a long moment, silence stretched between us, heavy and suffocating. I could hear my own heart beating, each thud a painful reminder of the storm inside me. Finally, he exhaled slowly, his eyes not leaving mine. “When I heard what Zade had done to you,” he said quietly, “I knew I had to get to you. I couldn’t leave you in his hands. Not after what he did. Not after what Draven put you through.” My chest tightened. I forced my voice pa

Nyx's Pov The room felt like it was shrinking, every wall pressing in on me as Liam’s small face lingered in my vision. His eyes. His soft voice. The way he whispered “Mama.” It was etched into me, carved into my soul so deeply it hurt to breathe. And then Kiera stepped forward. Her heels clicked against the polished floor, her smirk pulling at her lips like she had been waiting for this exact moment. “Well, isn’t this something?” she said with a shake of her head. “You are standing here, clutching another man’s hand, while your son looks at you with those sad little eyes.” She tilted her head, feigning pity. “How could you, Nyx? How could you be such a bad mother? You abandoned him.” Her words hit sharp, slicing through the fragile wall I had built inside myself. Rage boiled hot and violent. I scoffed, shaking my head as the laugh left me bitter and raw. “You dare lecture me about being a mother, Kiera?” I hissed, stepping closer, my eyes locked on hers. “You’re one to talk. Do
