Chapter Nineteen

The rain didn’t stop. It battered the penthouse windows like fists trying to get inside.

Luna stood motionless near the glass, phone still in Alexander’s hand, every nerve in her body pulled tight enough to snap.

Phantom. Nobody had called her that in five years. Not like that, not with recognition, and not with certainty.

Alexander watched her carefully. His instincts had shifted completely now. She could feel it. The predator in him had surfaced fully—not because he wanted to attack her.

  • The Phantom Luna   Chapter One Hundred Twenty: The Life I Chose

The first thing I noticed was the silence. Not the suffocating silence that followed destruction, nor the terrifying stillness that came before a battle. This silence felt different. It was gentle, almost unfamiliar, like the world was taking its first peaceful breath after centuries of fear.I stood on the silver platform, staring at the seven worlds suspended across the horizon. They were still there.Their mountains had not all been restored. Some kingdoms carried scars from the collapse, and distant cities glimmered with the fragile light of rebuilding. But the worlds were connected again, their silver threads stretching between them without passing through a throne. Nobody commanded those connections. Nobody owned them. For the first time, the covenant belonged to those who chose it. I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. “We survived,” I whispered. Alexander slipped his hand into mine. “We did.”I turned to look at him. His crimson eyes had softened, and the ancient

The Sovereign disappeared inside the darkness, and the covenant began to die.I felt every connection shudder beneath my skin. The silver threads that had joined the worlds stretched until they became almost invisible, while the lights people had created one by one began going out.“No!” I reached for the nearest thread. “You don’t get to take their choices away again!”The darkness answered with a violent pulse.I was thrown backward, but Alexander caught me before I struck the broken platform.“Luna, stop!” he shouted. “You can’t fight that corruption by throwing yourself into it.”“I’m not going to let the worlds collapse!”“And I’m not going to let you sacrifice yourself because you think everyone else’s survival is your responsibility.”His words struck harder than the blast. For a moment, I saw the familiar fear in his eyes. He knew what it meant to lose someone to a decision they believed they had to make alone. He had spent years trying to become strong enough that nobody coul

  • The Phantom Luna   Chapter One Hundred Eighteen: The Last Choice

The world was ending, and the Sovereign was smiling.I watched the throne split apart above us as we plunged into the abyss. Black lightning tore through the darkness, and the last silver chain stretched taut between the Sovereign’s chest and the heart of the covenant.Alexander’s hand tightened around mine. “Luna, look at me!” I forced my eyes away from the collapsing worlds. His crimson eyes held mine, fierce and steady despite the destruction surrounding us. “We’re not dying here,” he said. “That sounded more convincing in your head, didn’t it?”A startled laugh escaped him. Even now, with the universe coming apart, he managed to look offended. “I was trying to be reassuring.” “Try harder.”His smile appeared for only a second before another explosion threw us sideways.Noah’s darkness surged beneath us, forming a vast shadow that caught our falling bodies. We struck it hard, and the impact drove the breath from my lungs. For several seconds, none of us moved. Then Noah groaned. “I

  • The Phantom Luna   Chapter One Hundred Seventeen: The Covenant Must Break

The first world disappeared before we reached the throne. One moment, the silver path stretched beneath our feet. The next, an entire kingdom beyond the broken horizon crumbled into darkness, its towers collapsing as though time had suddenly remembered their age.I heard thousands of voices crying out. Then silence swallowed them. I stopped walking. “What happened to them?”The woman with my face appeared beside us, her translucent form flickering beneath the dying light. “The Sovereign is severing the connections between the worlds. It believes that if it destroys the covenant, it can rebuild existence according to its own design.” “Can those people be saved?” I demanded. “Only if the connections survive.” I looked at the darkness spreading across the horizon. “Then we protect the connections.” “The covenant cannot be protected by force alone.” “Good thing I have never relied on force alone.”Alexander gave my hand a brief squeeze. Even now, with ancient power moving beneath his ski

The crimson door slammed shut, and Alexander disappeared. I rushed toward it, striking the surface with both hands. “Alexander!” No answer.I tried the handle, but the door refused to move. Crimson symbols spread across its surface, burning brighter each time I touched them.Behind me, Noah approached cautiously. “Luna, the door won’t open until he makes his choice.” “I know that!” My voice came out sharper than I intended. I closed my eyes, forcing myself to breathe.Alexander had asked me to trust him. I couldn’t spend every moment of his trial trying to take control because I was frightened of losing him.But trusting him didn’t mean standing helplessly outside while he faced the worst memories of his life.I pressed my palm against the door. “I’m here, Alexander,” I whispered. “Whatever you see, you’re not alone.” The crimson light pulsed beneath my hand. Then the door opened a fraction.I saw him inside. He stood in a white laboratory, facing the seven-year-old version of himself

  • The Phantom Luna   Chapter One Hundred Fifteen: The Power I Refused

The silver doorway closed behind me, and I found myself standing in a world made entirely of memories. There was no sky, only an endless expanse of silver light. Beneath my feet stretched a glass floor reflecting every version of myself I had ever been: the frightened child in the laboratory, the young woman who believed love meant sacrifice, the Luna who had lost her wolf, and the Phantom who had returned determined never to be powerless again.I stopped when I saw the final reflection. She wore a silver crown. Her eyes glowed like stars, and seven threads of light stretched from her fingers toward distant worlds. Wherever she moved, armies bowed. Every door opened at her command. No bloodline could challenge her, and no enemy could threaten anyone she loved. She looked at me and smiled. “You’re tired,” she said. I folded my arms. “I assume you’re here to offer me something.” “Everything you ever wanted.” The reflection lifted her hand. The world changed.I stood in the courtyard of

The silence after Alexander’s grip tightened around Desmond’s wrist did not feel like silence. • The Phantom Luna   Chapter Two

I stood in the doorway. My brain knew what I was seeing. My eyes registered every detail with crystalline, horrible clarity. But my body—my body refused to accept it.He didn't stop.Desmond's eyes locked onto mine. His wife. Standing three feet away. And his hips kept moving. Kept driving into her

  • The Phantom Luna   Chapter One

I checked my phone again—5:47 PM.The candles were already lit—thirteen of them, one for each year we'd been together. The hotel suite looked perfect. I'd spent three hours getting it right, draping fairy lights across the curtains, scattering rose petals on the bed, setting up his favorite wine. T
