Cheating Girlfriend

“Where is our Mr Awesome?” Kara, Liam’s girlfriend, asked me when I settled down in my seat at our table in the cafeteria. I looked at her with a huge smile.

“With his new girlfriend.” I told her. We had a test today as it was Monday. So, we stayed at home on Saturday instead of going out somewhere like usual and since we were just studying, I called Leah, my English project partner, the girl Xander was currently crushing on, and invited her to my house where me and Xander were studying. I introduced Leah to Xander and by Sunday, they officially became a couple.

Like he promised, Xander treated me with Pizza on both Saturday and Sunday. I helped him study for the test we had in the second class of the day and it went well too. At least for me. Xander and I didn’t talk much since it was his first day at school with his new girlfriend so I don’t know how he did on the test. But I was happy for him anyway.

“Lets just hope that this one won’t try anything on you when Xander breaks up with her.” Liam said with a smirk. I frowned at him.

“Liam! Be positive! Leah might be the girl who would finally make our player quit his games.” I told him. Everyone on the table looked at me for a second before they all burst out laughing. Even Damien joined them. The girls on the table were crying from how hard they were laughing.

“Do you really believe that, E?” Sarah, Kara’s best friend asked me as she tried to stop laughing.

“Honestly, I don’t. But Xander was the one who said this. And I wouldn’t want to be the one to burst his bubble.” I told them honestly, making them laugh some more. I shook my head with a small smile at my friends as they all laughed at Xander’s words. I turned my head just in time to see Xander and Leah coming over to the table, hand-in-hand.

“Oh! There they are!” Damien announced as they came closer to the table.

“How’s it going guys?” I asked them with a smile as everyone looked at them. Xander smiled at me and I could see that it was forced which made me want to burst out laughing but I controlled myself when I heard someone snicker beside me. I looked at Leah to find her eyes big in shock as she stared at some beside me. I turned my head to see her staring at Mason.

“Mace, isn’t she the girl you brought home last night?” Jason asked his brother. My eyes grew wide as I stared at Mason. Mason was busy frowning at Leah as he rubbed his jaw with his index finger and thumb.

“Lena, right?” He asked Leah as he continued to stare at her as if she was a difficult math equation. Leah however was frozen in her spot.

“She’s Leah, Xander’s new girlfriend.” I told Mason. Mason’s eyes grew wide as he turned to me. My eyes grew wide as well as I looked at Mason. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Xander turning to Leah with an angry expression.

“I swear, I didn’t know who she was! I just went to a party and she was there. I didn’t even make the first move!” Mason said in his defence. I glared at him. Everyone at our table and the students who overheard our conversation all stared at Xander and Leah in shock.

“Really, Mace? They just started dating yesterday around noon! Merely twenty-four hours ago!” I hissed at him. Mason opened and closed his mouth like a goldfish. I shook my head before I stood up from my seat and moved to stand between Xander and Leah. Leah was still frozen.

“Why did you do it?” I asked Leah with gritted teeth. I was aware of all the eyes that were staring at us but I didn’t care. I know that Xander was a player and he might deserve what happened to him but he was still my best friend. It was my duty to stand up for him when someone does something wrong with him.

“I-I…” Leah tried to speak but she couldn’t say anything in her defence. It angered me even more.

“Why did you even say yes to Xander’s proposal when you were not going to be loyal to him?” I asked her, the volume of my voice rising with each word. “Why did you do this to him? You could have easily said no to him when you didn’t want to be in a relationship with him!” I spoke up before she could open her mouth. I was about to say more but I felt Xander grabbing my arm to stop me. I looked at him to see a calm expression on his face.

“It’s alright, Elle.” He told me softly before turning to Leah. “We are not over. We never started.” He said not only to Leah but to everyone who was listening to our conversation. “I realised that I didn’t want to be with you either and I was going to break up with you anyway. You just made it easier for me.” Xander said in his deep voice.

“And just so we are clear, it wasn’t my fault that you two broke up. It was your fault so if you try or even think about pulling any revenge prank or some shit on me, I’ll make you regret ever coming here.” I told her. Xander rolled his eyes at me but I could see a small smile on his face.

“By the way, try to control your cousin. She kissed me when you left yesterday.” Xander said before he sat down in his seat like nothing happened. Leah gasped but then her face became red with anger as she ran out of the cafeteria probably to search for her sister.

“Show’s over, buddies!” Liam called out to everyone in the cafeteria. Soon, the silence was again filled with the usual cafeteria chaos. I took my seat next to Xander with Mason on my other side. I raised an eyebrow at Xander.

“You do know that you cheated on her before she cheated on you, right?” I asked Xander.

“Hey! Her cousin was a much better kisser than her anyway!” Xander said with a smirk. I shook my head at his comment.

This girl only lasted for a day…

  • The Player's Playmate   Epilogue

“Did he really bake all those cupcakes for you?” Kara asked with a giggle. I nodded my head with a smile. “That is why I always told you to date him, honey.” My mother commented. I rolled my eyes at her. “When you found out about what happened, you were about to go over to his house and kill him! You didn’t even let him come inside the house when he came to apologize to me!” I reminded my mother. After my conversation with Xander, he did what he said he would do. He crossed every limit when it came to seeking forgiveness. He learnt how to bake cakes and cupcakes and I got a batch of the freshly baked goods almost daily. He even apologized to my parents.Xander was always around in school but he still kept his distance. He apologized to Damien and Liam too for breaking their trust. After a couple weeks of him always smiling at me through the hallways and doing his best, I decided that he and I have suffered enough by staying away. I forgave him. Completely.“That was be

“I don’t want to go back to the way we were before, Ellie.” Xander told me, making me frown. What the hell is he talking about?“What do you mean by that, Xan? Don’t you want to be my friend anymore?” I asked him. Xander smiled as he shook his head. “No, Ellie. Now that I know how amazing it is to be your boyfriend, I don’t think that I can be just friends with you. You’re just too special and I can’t let you go.” Xander told me in a sincere voice. I stopped breathing and my eyes turned wide. I didn’t know what to say now. “H-how? W-Why?” I stuttered, not knowing what I wanted to ask or say. Xander chuckled as he looked at my flustered state. “Ellie, I am not going to lie to you anymore. I am not going to hide anything either. I’ll tell you the truth. I did ask you out because I was afraid of losing you to Ace. But I realised that I really do love you. And I have loved you for as long as I could remember.” Xander told me. I knew that if he continued talking, I was

“I am fine, Damien!” I huffed. I have been saying the same sentence on a repeat for the past fifteen minutes, ever since he picked me up for school. But Damien is still annoying me. And so is Liam. And Mason. And Jason. “Are you sure?” Liam asked me as he looked at my face as if I was going to break down again. I rolled my eyes as I decided to ignore them all. After I told my mom and dad about everything, I had to practically beg my mom to not just go over to Xander’s house and break his face and my dad to not kill Xander. After convincing my parents, my mom made me skip school the next day and she and I went for a relaxing spa day. Later that night, my parents took me to watch a movie at the theatre.During the weekends, Damien, Liam, Kara and the twins slept over at my house. We talked about random things, ate loads of junk food, watched movies and much to Mason’s disappointment, did our homework. Today was Monday. And even though my mom offered to take me to a fair

  • The Player's Playmate   Breaking down

I was done crying. My nose and eyes were red and my eyes were swollen and were hurting. But I didn’t feel like a mess. I felt a little better even though the pain of the heartbreak was still there. The day wasn’t over yet but my crying apparently was. I had no more tears left in me. As I drank some water, I realised how dehydrated I actually was feeling. But I was a little better… The pain was still unbearable and Xander’s voice still in my head on repeat as he confessed that it was all a lie but there was another voice there. This was my own voice which was telling me that I was Eleanor Aliana Ambrosia and no one can break me. I was stronger than titanium! My heart might have been broken but I wouldn’t let myself be broken completely. I was going to stay strong. After all, I was still in high school. I had a lot to live for. If not love, I still had to live to make my parents proud of me. I still had to do so much!I had to win a Nobel prize too!A knock on the door

“I only asked Ellie out because I saw how Ace was going to take her away. I told her lies to convince her that I liked her so that she would leave him and come back to me. My plan was to break up with her after Ace was out of the picture and the offer for her to go to the music school was no longer available.” Xander said in a strong voice. I heard multiple gasps beside me but I was too shocked to say something or give a reaction as Xander visibly froze. It was as if he was afraid to turn around.“See. He didn’t want you after all.” I heard Sarah’s smug voice say but I couldn’t reply to her either. Xander turned around and his eyes met mine.I could see the shock and guilt in his eyes but I was too shocked to say or do anything.“Ellie…” Xander whispered as he looked at me with wide eyes. I held my tears and sob in as I looked at him but I could still hear his words on a repeat in my head which made a tear fall from my eye and roll down my cheek. He lied to me… It was al

  • The Player's Playmate   Secret's Out

Xander’s POV“I know your little secret, Xander Theodore King.” I heard someone saying just as I came out of the class to make my way to Ellie’s locker. I turned to find Gavin, one of the guys from the football team standing right next to the door of the class. “Big deal, Gav! The whole school knows my whole name. It’s not a secret.” I said as I rolled my eyes. I turned around and started walking to Ellie’s locker. Today was our one month anniversary and I was going to do everything in my power to make sure that she was happy today. I had already planned our date for after the school got over.Ellie and I have been going strong even after Ellie found out that I was hiding something from her. The twins tried to bring it up and make me confess everything to her but it looked like she didn’t want to know. I knew that she wanted me to tell her everything on my own but I was a coward. I wasn’t going to tell her the truth. Besides, I love her now. I feel exactly wha
