"I-I was just curious…" I stuttered. His hand was still on my chin.
"About what?" He raised a brow.
"J-Just…just—"
"Just what?" He snapped.
"Y-You!" I breathed, scared that he might lash out. "I w-was just curious about you…"
His eyes scanned my face as he bit inside his cheek. "What do you want to know?"
"Huh?" I muttered, wide eyed.
"What do you want to know about me?" He tilted his head with an amused look.
"Oh…umm…nothing—nothing in particular—"
"I don't have time for lies so you better spit it out before I make you say it my way. And trust me, you are not gonna like that," He gave me a tight lipped smile.
I gulped and stared at whatever was behind his head just so I could avoid looking into his eyes. I have to quickly come up with a lie! And the worst part is that my brain can't think straight!
"Ugh…I-I heard a lot of s-scary stories about you…b-but you don't seem scary at all… I was wondering—"
"I don't look scary to you?" Alpha Cassian cut me off. He furrowed his eyebrows while looking at me sceptically.
Oh my god, Ivy! Are you stupid or what?! Is that the best lie you could come up with?
I cursed myself in my mind, instantly regretting the words I just uttered. I called the infamous predator "not scary". I should have just gone outside, dug a grave and buried myself because that seems like a better option now that I think about it.
"If I don't look scary to you, then why are you trembling so much?"
"Huh? I'm not—I'm not trembling!" God, I hate my stutter.
Oh, and I talked back to him again. Damn it!
"You're stuttering and fiddling while having a hard time holding eye contact with me. Either you are intimidated by me, or you are hiding something and being really bad at it," He scoffed, causing me to quickly stop fiddling with my fingers. "I hope it's not the latter because if that's the case, you'd get to see how scary I really am," Alpha Cassian gave me a devilish grin.
"I'm j-just nervous…"
"Hmm…" He hummed, looking at me with his sharp eyes. "Tomorrow morning we will begin the interrogation, you better be ready to answer all the questions we ask you. Don't mess up if you want to live,"
"O-Okay," I nodded. We were still so close and his pheromones were starting to make me feel dizzy.
Alpha Cassian stayed silent for a moment before he spoke up. "Are you an omega?" He asked suddenly, causing my heartbeat to speed up.
"Yeah," I gathered my courage and announced proudly. I'm not ashamed of my second gender and damn him if he thinks I'm weak because of that. I'd fight anyone who tries to insult me for it.
Alpha Cassian raised a brow. "How old are you?" He asked as he stepped back, releasing me from being trapped between the wall and him.
"Seventeen," My answer brought a frown to his face. He looked at me with an indescribable emotion before turning back.
"Don't roam around here and go back to your room, kid," He ordered before walking away with his hands in his pockets.
"I'm not a kid!" I muttered under my breath. I wanted to say that I'm going to be eighteen soon but I didn't want to argue and get on his nerves. God knows what would happen if I piss him off.
I sighed and walked to my room while cursing that arrogant alpha in my head. My heart was starting to calm down.
One thing I noticed when I was with him is that I had this weird inner feeling. My wolf was too…..excited? I was confused as to why it felt that way. Shouldn't it be afraid of a stronger alpha like Cassian? But it wasn't fear but something else. I felt it but I couldn't pinpoint what it was.
Since I'm not eighteen yet, I can't actually understand what exactly my wolf is feeling but it's exciting to glimpse a little bit into their feelings here and there.
I walked into the room expecting my mother to be asleep but she was wide awake, standing by the window and looking out into the woods. She turned around when she heard me close the door.
"Mom, you didn't sleep? I thought you were tired," I asked as I walked towards her.
She gave me a gentle smile. "I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd wait for you." Her smile faltered when she finished the sentence. She looked at me for a moment before tilting her head. "Ivy, why do you have an alpha's smell on you?" She furrowed her brows.
I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly. "Uhh… it's nothing. I just bumped into someone on my way here—"
"Who is it? Did they do something to you? Did they touch you? Why can I smell them on you?"
"Relax, mom," I shook my head before looking at her. "It was…Alpha Cassian,"
I saw her eyes widen. Her expression turned into concern and she gulped before grabbing my shoulder. "Ivy, did he do something to you? Did he hurt you?"
"No, mom. I bumped into him when I was climbing the stairs. I was about to fall because I was surprised by him but he caught me before I did. I think that must be why his scent is on me." I shrugged, trying to play it cool.
My mother visibly relaxed when she heard my reply. "Did he say something to you? Why weren't you looking up while walking, Ivy? You could have made him angry," She scolded me.
"He didn't say much. He just told me that the interrogation will start tomorrow morning," I lied. I didn't want to make her worry.
"Oh," She said as she stepped back. "Then you should go to sleep," She sighed.
I nodded. "Don't worry, mom…" I gave her a soft smile. "It's going to be okay. We haven't done anything wrong so we'll say the truth. I'm sure they're gonna take us in,"
She tried to return the smile but it didn't reach her eyes. She was still worried and there was nothing I could say to make her relax. She told me to sleep and I did just that.
I closed my eyes, waiting for sleep to take me from this horrible reality I'm living in.
I could feel the intense gaze of everyone in the room on us as my mom and I sat down on the chairs. Alpha Cassian sat opposite to us and watched us with a stoic face. There were more people in the room than I thought there would be. It just made me more nervous. Everyone from the shadow pack and some people from the darkwood pack were in the room and they stood silently behind the predator.Luna Evelyn's presence did help to ease my beating heart a little bit. I was grateful that she was present. My attention fell back on the predator when he decided to lean forward and put his elbows on the table between us."Tell me your full names," He demanded. I gulped and nodded. "Ivy Elsher," I introduced myself. "and this is my mother Isabella Elsher." I looked at my mom.I saw Alpha Cassian frown for a moment before his face returned back to his usual stoic expression. "Hmm…" He hummed and scribbled something on the paper in front of him before looking straight into my eyes. "How old are y
"I'll let them stay here till I get more information about them. If they're proven to be guilty then—" "Then we will take them back," Luna Evelyn cut off Alpha Cassian.Alpha Cassian looked at her. "You can take them back but I should warn you that I might lose my temper if the crime they committed is anything serious. You know I hate traitors. Especially the rogues." He glared at me.I clenched my fists. I felt so small in front of him. It was irritating. Alpha Keiran assured that we wouldn't be any problem for the pack and somehow managed to calm the persistent beast. "We will question them again later." He said to Alpha Keiran. "You can talk to them too. It's better for them if they confess now rather than us finding it out later." He threw a sharp look at me before walking out of the room.I was frozen in place while everyone around us stared at us. How am I going to defend us? The evidence they're gonna find is all going to be against us. How will I prove my father's innocence
Cassian's POVI couldn't feel her tremble as I hovered over her. Her pheromones slowly turned sour."Y-You have no right to insult him! You don't even know him!" She stuttered out. This kid amused me. I've seen others literally piss in their pants in my presence. None of the rogues has dared to speak up against me. Ever. So where did she get the guts from?Have I been too soft on her?"Listen, kid," I gritted out, releasing my alpha pheromones to force her into submission. I saw her take in a shaky breath as her hands searched for something to hold. I'm sure her knees are weak. They should be. She should submit. "I've been too kind to you and your mother. If you try to get too cocky with me, I'll throw you out in the blink of an eye. Got it?" I asked. She didn't reply. Her eyes were cast down, face tilted to the side as she exposed her neck in front of me. Her knuckles were white from gripping the clothes too tight and her pheromones were turning too sour.It irked me.My wolf was res
"Don't worry, we will come back if there's any problem. We can't stay here for so long but Cassian has agreed to call us immediately if there's any problem." I rolled my eyes as I watched Keiran trying to convince the omega and her mother that it was safe to stay in my pack without them. They nodded even though I could still see their fear. The girl glanced at me for a moment to which I replied with a raised brow, causing her to avert her eyes immediately. Evelyn said some words to them before saying goodbye. We sent them off with some gifts and stuff before retreating towards the pack house. Today will be a busy day.I have to assign training sessions and work for the new members. But for that, I'll have to learn about their skills and interests too. It's too much work. I could have given this responsibility to Ryder and focused on the paperwork and training the warriors if Ryder was here.I took a deep breath. The pack house was crowded today more than usual. I saw many unmated m
Ivy's POV"I'm sorry…" I said to my mother as we both ate our food. She looked up and gave me a soft smile even though it didn't reach her eyes."Why are you apologizing, dear?" Her voice was soft just barely above a whisper."I brought you to this pack. I shouldn't have. Alpha Cassian is an asshole. I can't take his disrespect anymore. It would have been fine if it was only directed at me but he keeps involving you and dad…""Don't say that. He's still letting us stay here. He gave us food, clothes, and a place to stay. We should be grateful. He has the right to be cautious. We are rogues…" My mother trailed off.I frowned. "But that doesn't—""Ivy," She softly gripped my shoulder. "Let's not make a fuss, dear. We have no right to do that. Let's wait till he makes a decision." She told me, making me silent.I looked at the food in front of me for a moment. "What if he doesn't accept us?" I asked in a soft whisper."Then we will go back to the woods. We will live like how we always di
"No." I took in a shaky breath. "It's the only thing I want to know. I'll leave your pack if you tell me what you did. Please, I just want to save my mother–" "I don't fucking care what you want!" Alpha Cassian roared and I felt my knees getting weak as my last bit of courage slipped out of me. His alpha pheromones were taking a toll on me. "How dare a lowly rogue like you demand answers from me?!" He seethed, glaring at me like I'm nothing but the dirt stuck under his shoe. It hurt my pride but I couldn't speak up. My mouth wouldn't move. "Don't even utter a single thing about my mate or I'll forget that you're a girl and strangle you till you take your last breath. Do you get me?!" He growled. I couldn't help but gasp as I fell to my knees, my head tilted to the side as he forced me into submission. "P-Please…" I managed to whimper out. I want to save my mother. I slowly felt his pheromones go down. He took a few steps back, taking a deep breath before talking to me again. "Go b
I let out a nervous laugh. "N-No, I'm actually—""Oh, you're a rogue, aren't you?" Another girl asked suddenly. I gave her a small smile and nodded. "Yes,""What's your name?""Ivy," I said, smiling wide. It was one of the guys who spoke up next. He was tall and well built. "Is it true that you grew up in the forest since you were born?" He frowned as he asked like he couldn't believe it."Uhh…yes. I grew up in the forest," I nodded at him. I was glad that they were interested in me enough to ask questions about myself. Maybe if they got to know me more, they would be my friends."How did you manage to do that?" One of the girls asked. "Like was it hard?"I was about to reply when another person spoke up."Yeah, right. Was there any bathroom? Where did you bathe and do other stuff?" She asked."Angel, don't be silly! How's there going to be a bathroom in the forest? They must've done it out in the open. It's common for rogues. Isn't it, Ivy?" The girl asked, earning a few snickers f
I watched my mate walk away from me without uttering a single word in reply. I had a thousand questions rushing through my mind. Fear took over me as my wolf whimpered for her mate.I felt hands wrap around me. I could feel people talking, whispering, and laughing…but everything was in a blur. Pain was all I felt. It felt suffocating. Like elastic over a wound. I needed to cry my heart out. So that's what I did.I cried like a child. I heard someone saying things to calm me down but nothing worked. Nothing could ease the pain. I wanted my mate. I needed my mate.I was dragged somewhere else. My vision wasn't clear because of the tears so I couldn't see. "Ivy…" I heard my mother's broken voice as she pulled me to sit on the bed. I hugged her close, taking in her faint scent as I wept. "Sleep, my child…Everything will be alright…" She said in her usual assuring voice. It used to calm me down but it didn't work this time. Because I knew…nothing was going to be alright this time.____I
