JACE'S P.O.V.

The room became dead quiet as I walked quietly to the shattered window and a relief washed over me when I realized they were gone. I turned around to see Anna holding her knee to her chest while staring into thin air.

“They’re gone,” I said softly as I sat next to her “Are you hurt?” She shook her head.

“Who were they? Why did they leave so suddenly? And Rose?” I sighed while running my fingers through my hair.

“There’s a lot you need to know, and none of it will be easy to hear.”

“Then start talking,” She snapped and the fire in her eyes appeared, but there was something else, she was scared. “What aren’t you telling me, Jace?”

"I found out the truth about you the night before our wedding,” I began while watching her from the side of my eyes.a “I was at the venue, making final arrangements, when Rose showed up out of nowhere.”

“Rose?”

“She told me everything, your parents weren’t planning on marrying you off to me. They were planning to sell you to the richest man in the world, someone thrice your age with a reputation for cruelty. Your father saw you as a bargaining chip, a way to secure even more power and wealth.”

The idea still made me boil in anger, but I watched as she tried to control her breath and I placed a hand on shoulders

"They… they were going to sell me?”

“I couldn’t let that happen. I proposed a deal to Rose. If she let me marry you instead, you’d be free from that arrangement. But Rose… she’s not who you think she is, Anna. She’s dangerous.”

“What do you mean?”

“She's deeply involved in drugs. She’s tied to some very powerful and dangerous people. And the worst part? She admitted she’s always hated sharing everything with you. She wanted you out of the picture. Permanently.” Her body stiffened as she panicked.

"She wanted to kill me?” I nod gently.

“She didn’t outright say it, but the implication was clear. I think the gunmen tonight were her doing. She’s escalating, Anna.”

“Why would they do this to me? My family…” Tears slipped from the corner of her eyes and I lost all sense of composure, I immediately reached for her face and lift her chin while wiping away her tears.

"Because they don’t see you for who you are… But I do.” Her eyes glittered from the tears and I felt drawn into those magnificent green eyes.

My eyes wandered on every bit if her face and saw the clear difference between them, she was flawless, and her twin was not. Without her consent my lips brushed against hers and I watched as she slowly closed her eyes, letting me take control and I did.

She tasted addictive and my hands five through the bottom of her hair as I thug on to it deepening the kiss, and we pulled apart breathing heavily, it's like having a glimpse of heaven and I pressed my forehead against hers

“Pack your bags,” I mumbled softly “We’re leaving tonight.”

“Where are we going?” she whispered.

“Italy, It’s time for us to start fresh. Away from all of this.”

Hours later we boarded my jet bound for Italy and I watched as she stared outside the window, probably thinking about her family. It hunts me knowing I couldn't take her feelings away from her, but I just had to let her grieve.

We arrived at Italy and I shook off the weird feeling I had as the car drove to my Villa. I could see Anna's confusion when he got home.

“It's our house.” I mumbled, and she didn't say anything until we got to the room as I noticed her fumbling with the edge of her shirt.

“Did we… you didn’t really…” She trailed off, her cheeks flushing, and I realized what she was talking about.

“No, I didn’t touch you that night at the bar. You passed out, and I took you to my guest room. I wasn’t going to take advantage of you, Anna.”

“I’m sorry I accused you of that.” I brushed her hair away from face and cupped her left cheek.

"You had every right to be angry. But that’s in the past now.”

“Then I suppose it's time for our wedding night?” She mumbled, and a smirk appeared on my face.

“Well someone is being naughty”

“Kiss me already, Jace Lysander”

“Yes ma'am”

We sat at a local restaurant the next morning and I watched Anna attempt to speak Italian and I forced myself not to laugh, but it brought me comfort seeing her relax for the first time since we met

“You do know you can speak English right?” I mumbled and she pouted in the most adorable way.

“It's not everyday I get to be in a local restaurant in Italy” I chuckled, and she continued to torture the poor waiter

After breakfast, I drove out of the city and stopped at the one house I dread and we both walked out of the car

“My family’s originally from Italy,” I mumbled as we walked up the marble stairs and her eyes widened in realization “... Relax you'll be fine”

The door flew open revealing mama who had a frown on her face and she glared at Anna

“So, this is the woman you chose? She doesn’t seem like much.”

“Mama” I warned. “You will respect her. If you don’t, you’ll have to answer to me.”

"How dare you speak to me that way?”

“I dare because you’ve overstepped for the last time, Anna is my wife, and if you threaten her, you threaten me.” We both walked inside the house to see papa sitting on the couch “... Papa”

“Jace, you will not speak to your mother like that.” And everything in me snapped as I grabbed Anna's hands.

"Then I won’t speak to her at all. We’re leaving.”

"Jace, I didn’t mean to cause this…”

“It’s not your fault, I left home years ago because my mother tried to control my life. I won’t let her do the same to you.”

We returned to the Villa and my blood ran cold as I stepped out of the car to meet eyes with the one woman I really loathe

“Jace,”

"Vanya,” My response was cold, but I didn't care

“Who is she?” Vanya extended her hand to Anna and I watched them closely.

"I'm the woman Jace was supposed to marry five years ago.” I saw her body stiffen and immediately pulled her away “…And I’m here to take back what’s mine.”

“Vanya…"

“Don't even think about Jace, let the bimbo go”

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 76

ANNA POV.Less than an hour later, the doorbell rang, and I could hear footsteps echoing in the hallway. Jace was absorbed in his phone, not noticing the familiar sound. I shifted Nathan in my arms as the housekeeper answered the door.Sophie walked in, a smile already on her face. “Good afternoon, Mrs. Lysander,” she greeted me, her tone smooth, polite—but there was something about it that always felt too practiced. She didn’t wait for a response before she moved toward Nathan, who was happily gurgling in my arms. “Oh! He is growing up so fast,” Sophie said as she leaned down to lift him from me. “He’s a true Lysander, isn't he?” I let her take Nathan, even though something about the way she said Lysander didn’t sit right with me. It felt a little too affectionate, too familiar.“Thank you,” I muttered, giving her a tight smile, and I could feel my hands curling into a small fist as she held Nathan a little too long, cooing at him. I cleared my throat. “I think I’ll take him bac

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 75

ANNA POV.The peaceful quiet between us stretched out, the world outside feeling so distant, like it didn’t matter anymore. It was just me and Jace, and that was enough for now.I took another bite of pancakes, savoring the sweetness and the warmth of the moment. But as I put the fork down, a thought crossed my mind, and I looked up at him, catching his eye.“So, are you going to be late for work today?” I asked, only half teasing, still unsure if I was ready to let go of the routine we’d fallen into. “You do have a company to run.”Jace chuckled, his smile widening in that way I adored. “Work? Anna, I’m the owner. I can decide not to go to work for a year if I want.” He raised an eyebrow, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “I could work from home, but today? I just want to reconnect with you.”I blinked, feeling a flutter of surprise and relief. “You’re serious?” “Dead serious,” he replied, his voice sincere, no hint of hesitation. “You and me, today. No distractions. I want us to ge

ANNA POV.I woke to the smell of coffee. For a second, I thought I was dreaming—until I turned over and saw Jace standing by the bed, a tray balanced in his hands and the softest smile on his face.“Good morning, beautiful,” he said.I blinked, sitting up, my hair a mess, eyes still foggy from sleep. “What… is this?”He set the tray down carefully—a full spread of pancakes, eggs, fresh fruit, and a steaming mug of coffee. “Breakfast in bed. White dove.”I stared at him, my heart doing this stupid, hopeful little flip. “Jace…”“No,” he cut in gently, sitting on the edge of the bed. “No arguments today. Just let me take care of you for once.”It was simple, really. Nothing extravagant. But somehow, it meant everything. After weeks of distance, of feeling like I was carrying the weight of us alone, here he was—showing up in the way I’d been aching for.I smiled, my chest tight. “Okay,” I whispered. “Thank you.”He leaned in and kissed my forehead, then my lips—soft, unhurried. “Eat,” he

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 73

JACE POV.I stared out my office window, the city sprawling beneath me, endless and alive. But my mind wasn’t on the deals or the meetings lined up for the day. It was on Anna.Last night had shaken me more than I wanted to admit. The way she looked at me when I walked through the door, her eyes so full of hope and love—it hit me right in the chest. And when I kissed her goodbye this morning… God, I could feel her slipping through my fingers, even as she held on tight.I’d been messing up.Not in the loud, obvious ways—but in the quiet ones. The late nights, the distance, the way I’d let things with Sophie get too close to a line I had no business approaching. I’d been telling myself it was nothing. That it was harmless. But it wasn’t harmless. Not when Anna’s eyes held doubt. Not when I knew better.I scrubbed a hand down my face and sat back in my chair, staring at the framed picture of Anna and Nathan on my desk. Nathan’s chubby cheeks, Anna’s bright smile. My family. My everythin

ANNA POV.The door clicked shut.I stood there for a moment, staring at it, his kiss still warm on my lips. It should’ve comforted me. It used to. But now, all it did raised more questions.Jace had smiled, touched me gently, kissed me like I was something precious. But it didn’t settle the storm brewing in my chest. If anything, it made it worse. Because the tenderness felt a little too careful. A little too… orchestrated. He was hiding something.I wasn’t sure when the feeling had started, but it lingered like the scent of Sophie’s perfume in his study—cloying, out of place, and impossible to ignore.I turned away and wandered into the kitchen, the floor cool against my bare feet. Nathan’s soft babbling echoed from the baby monitor, and I reached for a mug, trying to drown my thoughts in coffee. But even the rich aroma didn’t soothe me.My mind kept circling back. The late nights at the office. The missed calls. The way he pulled away sometimes, emotionally more than physically.

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 71

JACE POV.The scent of rosemary and lemon lingered in the air, blending with the warm flicker of candlelight. I hadn’t expected this. I hadn’t expected her—not like this.Anna looked like a memory I hadn’t realized I’d forgotten. Stunning. Composed. Radiant in that dress I used to love on her. And it hit me hard—how long it had been since I really looked at her. Since I really saw her.But my throat was tight, and the air between us felt too still, like the calm before something I didn’t know how to face.I kept my eyes on the plate, forcing down bite after bite, each one tasting like guilt.Because I could still smell Sophie’s perfume on my shirt. And Anna… God, Anna had gone out of her way. I saw it in the way the table was set, the food carefully plated, the wine uncorked just right. I saw it in the way she smiled, even as her eyes searched mine for something—reassurance, connection, maybe a flicker of the man I used to be.But I couldn’t meet her halfway. Not yet.Not with the li

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 70

ANNA POV.The apartment was eerily quiet. Nathan had finally fallen asleep, his soft breathing the only sound in the room. The house felt cold without Jace’s presence, the emptiness echoing louder than the ticking of the clock on the wall.I sat on the edge of our bed, my fingers hovering over my phone. The last few days had been a blur—arguments, silence, tension. It felt like we were both strangers, living in the same house but worlds apart.I stared at the screen, at Jace’s name blinking in my messages. He hadn’t reached out since that fight. I couldn’t remember the last time he had really seen me, had looked at me like he used to. My chest tightened at the thought, and for a moment, the words I wanted to say to him felt too heavy to even type. But I couldn’t stay silent anymore. I couldn’t keep pretending I was okay when everything inside me was unraveling. My fingers shook as I typed, the words coming out slowly at first.“I miss you.”I stared at the message for a long time, w

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 69

JACE POV.The numbers on the screen blurred.I stared at the presentation slides, trying to focus, trying to pretend everything was fine. But my mind was still in the living room, replaying Anna’s tear-filled eyes, her voice cracking when she asked about the perfume on my shirt. The way her anger spilled out, raw and trembling.Nathan’s cry still echoed in my ears.I ran a hand down my face and leaned back in my chair. My office was quiet, the city humming just beyond the glass windows, but inside me was a chaos I couldn’t mute.I hadn’t meant to fight with her. God, I didn’t want any of this.Sophie’s soft knock at the door made me flinch.“Meeting at ten,” she said, stepping in without waiting. She set a coffee on my desk. Her usual move. “Thought you could use a fresh one.”“Thanks,” I muttered, not meeting her eyes. She lingered. “Rough morning?”I gave her a flat look. “It’s been a rough few weeks.”Sophie tilted her head, like she was searching for a crack to slip into. “If you

  • The Price Of Us   Chapter 68

ANNA POV.10:41 p.m.I stared at the clock like it owed me something. Maybe an explanation. Or mercy. But all it did was blink back at me, each minute a fresh wound. He was late again. Of course he was.My eyes stung. I had stopped trying to wipe the tears away. They kept coming anyway. That had become the routine. Me, crying. Me, waiting. Jace, late. Always with an excuse. Always with Sophie.I didn’t even bother texting him this time. The silence in the house felt louder than Nathan’s soft breathing in the baby monitor. I had read him Guess How Much I Love You twice before he finally closed his eyes. He clutched his stuffed bunny tighter tonight. Maybe he sensed it too—how much I was breaking. The door clicked open.My body went still. Breath caught in my throat. He walked in, looking too casual for someone who left me drowning in hours of silence. Sleeves rolled, tie loosened, face unreadable. And then… the scent hit me.Not his usual cologne. Not soap or even the faint warmth
