I woke up to the soft sound of Jace’s voice, his words a little muffled but enough to make me stir.

His presence beside me—warm, steady—was something I’d come to cherish. I had never imagined, not in a thousand years, that I’d wake up in his arms like this, that we’d be here, building something for our future together.

But then, his phone rang.
