LESSIE

For a heartbeat, I didn’t understand what had just happened.

It was like the air had been sucked out of the room, leaving only heat and the sharp, burning pain that bloomed across my neck.

Dante’s teeth sank deep, not enough to draw blood but enough to make my body jolt, every muscle tightening under the sudden, searing sensation.

It burned. God, it burned.

The pain wasn’t sharp like a cut, it was heavy, pulsing, as if something was being branded deep beneath my skin.

I wanted to scream, to shove him away, but my voice caught somewhere in my throat, strangled by shock.

And then, just as the burn reached its peak, something else followed, a slow, spreading warmth that coiled low in my stomach, confusing and shameful and nothing I wanted to feel.

Pleasure.

I hated that word, hated how my body betrayed me by responding to something that should have terrified me.

The sensation came like a ripple, colliding with panic and guilt until I could barely tell where one ended and the

  • The Professor, My Mate   Chapter 44

LESSIE By the time I walked into the hallway the next morning, the photos were gone.Every single one of them. The walls that had felt like execution grounds yesterday now looked empty—too clean, too quiet, like the school itself was pretending nothing ever happened. I stood there for a long moment, staring at the blank bulletin board, my stomach turning with a strange blend of relief and disbelief.Someone had to have taken them down overnight. But who? The school authorities? Or… Professor Dante? The thought made my pulse skip. Knowing Taide, he wouldn’t have backed down without a fight. He lived for chaos. The only person with enough power to stop him was Dante and the possibility that he’d done this for me made my skin prickle with unease.I forced myself to breathe, pushing the thought away. I wasn’t going to start my morning thinking about him. Not after what happened in the lab yesterday. Just remembering the way his breath had brushed my neck, the way my heart had betra

  • The Professor, My Mate   Chapter 43

LESSIE The rain was relentless, thick, cold drops pelting the ground like tiny bullets. My hair clung to my forehead, my sweater already soaked through as I stood frozen by the curb.Professor Kieran sat behind the wheel of the sleek black car, his face half-lit by the dashboard’s faint glow. He looked… effortlessly calm, like the storm outside didn’t touch him at all. His dark hair was pushed back neatly, his tie loosened, his expression unreadable—but his eyes, those sharp blue-grey eyes, held that same quiet intensity that always seemed to strip me bare.I pulled my sweater tighter around me, shivering under his gaze.“Professor,” I managed, my voice low, guarded.“Need a ride?” he asked, a hint of amusement in his tone, as if he already knew what my answer would be.For a moment, I just stared at him.Every cell in my body screamed no.For weeks now, I’d been doing everything I could to avoid both Kieran and Dante; keeping my head down, walking the long way to class, ducking i

  • The Professor, My Mate   Chapter 42

LESSIE I blinked, certain I hadn’t heard him right.“What did you just say?” My voice came out in a sharp whisper, disbelieving. My stomach twisted as Taide’s smirk deepened, the glint in his eyes dark and playful, like he was enjoying my confusion. He leaned back lazily against the lab counter, the faint hum of the Bunsen burner filling the space between us. “You heard me, sweetheart,” he murmured, his lips curling. “If you want the photos gone, you’ll have to let me mark you.”My entire body went cold. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. The world around me stilled, the smell of formaldehyde and chemical solvents thick in the air.“You’re insane,” I hissed, stepping back, my pulse thundering in my ears. “You think this is funny?!”His grin widened. “Do I look like I’m joking?”Something inside me snapped. I raised my hand before I even realized what I was doing, ready to slap the smugness off his face but he was faster. His fingers shot out, catching my wrist mid-air.The grip wa

  • The Professor, My Mate   Chapter 41

LESSIE The air outside the classroom felt heavy — thicker, like it was pressing down on my skin. I could still feel Sandra’s hands trying to hold me back, her voice trembling behind me as she begged me not to do anything stupid. But I was beyond reason.Humiliation burned like acid beneath my skin. My name was being dragged through the mud, my face was plastered everywhere, my body put on display for everyone to gawk at. Every whispered laugh and every mocking stare I endured this morning replayed in my head like a cruel film reel. And there was only one name that kept flashing through my mind.Taide.That smug bastard had been there that night — leaning against the poolside rail, smirking like he owned the world, phone in hand. I remembered the flicker of his flash when I fell, remembered his mocking laugh as he and his little group of jackals snickered behind me.If anyone had the nerve to do this to me, it was him.“Lessie, wait!” Sandra’s voice echoed behind me as I stormed d

  • The Professor, My Mate   Chapter 40

LESSIEThe sound of my own heartbeat was the first thing I heard when I came to. It echoed in my ears like the fading rhythm of a war drum, slow and heavy, thudding beneath my ribs. My eyelids felt like they were weighted, and when I finally pried them open, the world around me spun into focus — white walls, harsh fluorescent light, the faint smell of disinfectant.I wasn’t in the cell anymore.A thin sheet covered my body, and cold wires trailed from my wrists to a heart monitor that beeped steadily beside me. My throat felt raw, my head pounding like someone had used it as a drum. For a moment, I didn’t remember where I was. Then it all came crashing back. The blood. The dead man. The police. The cuffs. Dante’s angry face. And then… the darkness.I gasped, sitting up too fast, ripping one of the monitor wires from my skin.“Whoa, whoa..easy there!” a voice said from the side.I turned to see a nurse rushing toward me, her expression softening when she noticed the panic on my fac
