Ariana's POV

Nobody really cares about anybody around here, it's all about what they can achieve and I know that.

The only thing that I'm very skeptical about is making a move that is going to cost me a lot.

What I was about to achieve was making sure that my mother was very confident with talking to me about everything and also promoting the bond between myself and Marco.

I found myself in bed the next morning and I didn't need anybody to tell me who had been in charge of that.

My mother

Ariana’s POV “Ariana, come back here. I had more to say!” She called after me, but I didn’t even stop to consider listening. It was thoughtless and reckless, but I remembered storming off like a bullet shot in the opposite direction. Because if I stayed any longer in that room with her, I would have said things I would definitely regret. But now my eyes were still wide open at daybreak after barely sleeping. The frustration of rolling from one side of the bed to the other kept me blinking as if blinking alone would force dizziness on me. None of my attempts worked. Even then, I found staying at the warriors barracks better. It kept me away from the pack house and the unnecessary drama. I reached for my phone, still skeptical. I remembered how I had planned to call Marco, but I’d decided to wait on Dan who said he would tell me when Marco was around. So I stayed patient. Maybe I shouldn’t have done that. Acting up, that is. But it was definitely my mother who caused it. That wa

Ariana’s POV I woke up feeling slightly light-headed, but once my eyes opened, my first instinct was to reach for the deed. I turned in my bed, stretching my hand toward the bottom side. The moment my fingers brushed the edge of the book, my heart stopped beating like a drum. “Miss Ariana.” A guard’s voice came from outside, and I straightened slightly in my seated position. “Who is it?” I asked. “It’s a guard, miss. You have a visitor.” “Who is it?” I repeated, already feeling the bitter shape of the answer forming in my mind. “Wait, let me guess,” I said when the image settled. “Is it…” I started. “Ruben, Miss Ariana.” the man finished. I sighed. “Of course it’s him. Tell him I’m busy and he should come back later.” “I’m very sorry, Miss Ariana, but he said he has something urgent to tell you about your mother.” My breath caught. “Mother.” “Yes, Miss Ariana. Do I still tell him to go?” the guard asked. I hesitated, thinking deeply. If they had found her, that was good

Ellen “Ellen, dear, what are you talking about?” Marco asked me. I couldn't exactly tell if he was playing dumb, or if he simply hadn’t come to terms with the shocking statement I just made—but I didn’t care. “You know exactly what,” I said, pointing an accusing finger at him. “How could you know I’d been captured, and yet do nothing about it until a day after?” I asked, making sure my tone held enough bitterness to choke him. “Who told you that?” Marco asked. “Because I want you to know it’s not true.” I scoffed. “Oh please. Word goes around, and I’m very sure I couldn’t have heard the wrong thing ten different times.” “Who were the murmurers?” Marco demanded. “Tell me so I can have them flogged until they get sense, if they can’t come here and justify the rubbish they’ve been saying behind closed doors.” “Of course they’d say it behind closed doors. That’s the only chance they get, isn’t it?” I countered. “Be the chance or not, that shows lack of discipline,” Marco said.

***Four Days Ago*** Ellen’s POV “My love,” I said softly. “I’m dying to hear your angelic voice in person,” he said, his tone smooth and deliberate. “Of course, my Alpha Elite. It will be very soon. I know it.” I said, almost blowing a kiss into the phone. “Well then, you mean to say you’re in the endgame?” he asked. “Definitely. This was the last push, the final shove that’ll make everyone in the pack hate Marco to his guts. And there’s absolutely nothing he can do about it,” I said, my voice dripping with confidence, the kind he never failed to recognize. “Excellent,” he murmured, his voice thick with pride. “Then it seems my long-awaited reunion with you, my lover, is sooner than I thought.” “Yes,” I replied with a sly smile, “and it’ll be even sooner than that, if everything clicks the way I want it to.” “Alright then,” he said smoothly, “whatever it is you need, or however you need my support, tell me and I’ll answer. You understand?” “Definitely, my love. But like I sai

Marco’s POV “Ah, Beta Dan! I’m so glad you’re looking better now—healthy and all well-rounded again.” Ruben’s cheerful voice rang through the room, his bright expression faltering slightly when he caught the dark scowl on Dan’s face. “Well… the frown’s a ruiner, though. Better get rid of that.” Ruben’s eyes then darted to me, then back to Dan, and then to my desk—his gaze shifting rapidly like he was piecing together a puzzle, trying to figure out what he’d just walked into. It was as if someone had told him his birthday present was waiting behind the door and he’d burst in to find something else entirely. “Back to my earlier question,” he said, his enthusiasm dimming, “am I interrupting something?” “No,” I said firmly. “Not at all. In fact, you being here right now is perfect.” Ruben inhaled deeply, exhaled slowly, then smiled faintly. “Ah, yes—perfect. That word feels too small for a moment like this, don’t you think? Hardly does it justice.” His confidence—dripping, smug,

Marco’s POV “Alpha Marco.” The maid’s soft voice pulled me out of the trance I didn’t realize I’d sunk into. I adjusted in my chair, my movements sluggish, careless—like someone who’d just been shot awake after a long, unwanted sleep. “What is it?” I asked, squinting at the blur of her form. She appeared to be split into five versions of herself, each one circling my vision like a Ferris wheel. “I’ve brought your breakfast,” she said, her voice small, careful. She took hesitant steps forward, courage trembling in each one, and set the tray on my desk. Plates clinked softly as she arranged the delicacies before retreating as if I were something venomous. “What’s this?” I muttered, dragging a hand down my face, half-hoping the gesture would sharpen my vision. “Toasts with stuffing, seasoned meats, vegetables with extra toppings, fruit choppings, and—” She paused. “And?” I asked, peering through my fingers, finally managing to gather her spinning images into one. “And your coffee,
