Chapter 13

Eliana’s POV

I held his gaze briefly and the only thing that stopped me from turning and walking away immediately was Annabelle's presence. A few seconds later, the girl with him followed his gaze to our direction and I looked away instantly.

“He’s looking over here,” Annabelle said, pointing out the obvious. “I wonder why.”

There was an undertone to that statement but I ignored it. The girl and Professor Matthews finally looked away and I was grateful when someone called Annabelle’s name in the distance. Her eyes scanned the area until she spotted the caller who was beckoning to her.

Then she looked back at me and said, “I need to attend to something. I'll text you so we can meet up later or something.”

She sounded apologetic and she hesitated after saying it, as if she was trying to reconsider.

“That's fine with me. I'm also about to get busy anyway,” I said. The worry in her eyes disappeared after that and she hugged me before finally walking away.
