FREYA'S POV

I barely sleep.

Every time I close my eyes I see tomorrow. The Council. Their faces. Their judgment. Adrian forced to choose between me and everything he's built.

And I know what he'll choose. He already told me. He'll choose me.

Which means I'm about to cost him everything.

His pack. His position. His legacy. Everything his father built. Everything he's sacrificed for. Gone. Because of me. Because he won't let me go.

The guilt eats at me. Twists in my stomach like broken glass.

Maybe I should just leave. Disappear before the meeting. Save him from having to make that choice. Let him keep his pack and his position and his life.

But even as I think it I know I won't. Can't. The bond won't let me. My heart won't let me. And Adrian would hunt me down anyway. Would find me and drag me back and probably lock me in a room until I promised never to leave again.

Stubborn, overprotective, impossible man.

I love him so much it physically hurts.

"Can't sleep?" His voice rumbles again

Coordinated.I slam into the nearest enemy. Teeth finding throat. Crushing. Killing. Moving to the next before the first hits the ground.Marcus fights beside me. Clara covering our flank. Everyone working together. Fighting as a unit. But we're still losing ground. Still being pushed back. Asher's wolves keep coming. Wave after wave. Like he has an endless supply."Fall back to secondary positions!" I command through pack link. "Controlled retreat. Don't let them scatter

FREYA'S POVEmma has been with us for a week and she's not adjusting well. She barely speaks. Barely eats. Stays in her room most of the time. The few times I've seen her she looks hollow. Empty. Like her sister's death took everything that made her Emma.I know that feeling. The grief. The guilt. The wondering if you could have done something different. Something that would have changed everything.Clara says to give her time. That grief takes as long as it takes. That pushing won't help. But I can't just leave her alone. Can't let her drown in guilt and loss without at least trying to reach her.So I knock on her door. "Emma? It's Freya. Can I come in?"Silence. Then. "I guess."I open the door. She's sitting on the bed. Staring at nothing. Dark circles under her eyes. Hair unbrushed. She looks like she hasn't slept in days."I brought food." I hold up a tray. "Clara made your favorite. Grilled cheese and tomato soup. You should eat something.""I'm not hungry.""You need to eat any

ADRIAN'S POV - FLASHBACK CHAPTER200 Years Ago"Focus Adrian. An Alpha who can't control his shift is useless to his pack."My father's voice. Strong. Commanding. The voice that taught me everything about being Alpha. About leadership. About sacrifice.I'm Fifteen years old. Still learning. Still making mistakes. Still thinking I have time to figure it all out.I don't. I have five years before he dies. Before leadership falls on my unprepared shoulders. Before I learn that nothing prepares you for being Alpha. Not training. Not bloodline. Not anything."Again." He stands over me in the training yard. "Partial shift. Just your claws. Control it."I try. My whole arm shifts instead. Fur. Elongated limb. Claws but not the way he wanted."Too much. You're letting the wolf control the shift. You need to control the wolf." He demonstrates. Smooth. Perfect. Just his claws extending. Then retracting. "Like this. Precise. Controlled."I try again. And again. And again. Until finally. Hours la

FREYA'S POVI wake up to sunlight and the smell of coffee.Adrian's side of the bed is empty but still warm. I can hear him moving around. The clink of mugs. The sound of the coffee maker. Domestic sounds that feel surreal after yesterday's darkness.I stretch. Everything is pleasantly sore. Last night was exactly what we both needed. Connection. Intimacy. Proof that we're still alive. Still capable of creating something beautiful together.I pull on one of his shirts and pad out to the kitchen. He's standing at the counter. Shirtless. Wearing just sweatpants. Making breakfast. Pancakes from the smell of it."You are cook?" I lean against the doorway. Admiring the view.He turns. Smiles when he sees me. A real smile. The first one since the execution. "I do many things. You just haven't seen most of them yet.""I like this domestic side of you." I cross to him. Wrap my arms around him from behind. "Alpha by day. Chef by morning. What other hidden talents do you have?""Guess you'll ha

  • The Professor's Mate Clause    CHAPTER 77

ADRIAN'S POVEmma finally passed out just after midnight, tears still drying on her cheeks. Clara curled up beside her, whispering soft things until the kid’s breathing evened out. The house is quiet now, too quiet, the kind of quiet that presses on your chest after a day soaked in blood and screaming.I’m standing at the bedroom window, palms flat on the cold glass, staring at nothing. My knuckles are split. My shirt still smells like gunpowder and Lyra’s funeral pyre. I can’t get the image out of my head: her body going limp the second the silver bullet punched through her heart. The door clicks open behind me.Freya doesn’t speak. She just walks up, slides her arms around my waist from behind, and presses her face between my shoulder blades. I feel her inhale, long and shaky, like she’s trying to breathe me back into myself.“Emma sleeping?” My voice is gravel.“Yeah. Clara’s got her.” Her hands slip under my shirt, palms warm against the ridges of my stomach. “Come to bed, Adrian.

  • The Professor's Mate Clause    CHAPTER 76

ADRIAN'S POVThe pack and environment was just so quiet, no one speaks about the execution directly. But it hangs over everything. Every conversation. Every interaction. The reminder that pack law is absolute. That betrayal has consequences. That even sympathy and understanding don't override justice.I handle Alpha business on autopilot, I met with scouts about the rescue mission for Emma. Reviewing security protocols. Approving new guard rotations. All the mundane details of keeping a pack running. But inside I'm hollow. Empty. Still feeling Lyra's life end under my claws. Still seeing her young face. Still hearing her ask me to save her sister.Freya stays close. Not hovering. Not suffocating. Just present. A constant reminder that I'm not alone in this. That someone sees the burden and doesn't look away.By evening the pack starts to relax. Life goes on. Death is part of our world. Execution for betrayal is rare but not unheard of. They process and move forward because they have t
