"So what's up with you and Gabby?"

Maya froze at the question and slowly turned to look at him.

His face gave nothing away, but the way he was sitting, legs crossed, one elbow on the desk, made her feel exposed, and somehow she knew exactly what he was asking. She didn't want to talk about it, but she knew there was no point avoiding the subject because he probably knew what happened. So she shrugged noncommittally and replied,

"We fought."

He rolled his eyes, "Duh, wasn't that obvious from the get-go."

She huffed and hastily stood up and slung the backpack on her shoulder, "I don't know what else you want to hear from me. I apologized to Gab but she doesn't want to hear. I'm sure it'll blow off in a couple of days, this isn't the first time it's happening, Jason."

He raised his hands in surrender, "Woah, hey, slow down! I'm not trying to play judge here, I just want to know what's going on. You know I hate it when you two dig it out."
