Chapter 8

Author: Echo
I looked at Julian kneeling in my yard and felt a wave of nausea.

This man had made my last life a living hell. And now he had the audacity to propose.

I stepped out of the house and stood on the porch, looking down on him.

"Julian," my voice was like frost. "Don't you love Seraphina? Weren't you two in love?"

The neighbors started whispering, their eyes alight with gossip.

Julian's face went white.

"No, Elara, you've misunderstood!" he scrambled to his feet, his voice frantic. "Seraphina and I are nothing! I never loved her!"

"What?" Seraphina's eyes widened in disbelief. "How can you say that? Julian, have you forgotten what you told me that night? You said you would marry me, you said..."

"Enough!" Julian cut her off, his voice turning cruel and sharp. "Seraphina, stop being so damn delusional."

He looked at the tearful girl, his words becoming vicious.

"Don't think I don't know what you're up to. You're just the adopted daughter, but you've always wanted everything that belongs to

  • The Reborn Choice   Chapter 10

The engagement ceremony was completed under a sky full of bright stars.Damien and I returned to the new home the Blackwood family had prepared for us. The room was lit with hundred-year-old candles, and the air smelled faintly of roses."Does it still hurt?" I asked, gently touching his bandaged hand."It doesn't hurt anymore," he said, gazing at me with a tenderness I'd never seen before. "Elara, I'm finally with you...""You might not believe me, but I've been watching you for a very, very long time. From the first moment I saw you, when you gently asked if my body was still in pain... I watched you fall for Julian, and my heart bled with jealousy. I thought I would never have a chance in this lifetime. Thank God, and thank you, for choosing me in the end...""I believe you," I said, pulling him into a hug and resting my head on his shoulder, feeling a sense of peace I had never known.Since my last life, I had been sure of his feelings for me.Life after our engagement was blissful

  • The Reborn Choice   Chapter 9

On the third night, a convoy of black cars moved slowly down the road to the Blackwood estate.I sat in one of the cars, dressed in a magnificent white gown, holding a bouquet of white tuberoses. Tonight, I would finalize my engagement to Damien and become his true partner.Suddenly, the car stopped."What's going on?" I opened the window to look. The road ahead was blocked. A man in a white groom's tuxedo stood in the middle of the road, dozens of men in black suits behind him.It was Julian. He was here to crash the ceremony.Damien got out of another car. Today, he looked stronger than ever. He walked firmly to my side, his silver-tipped cane gleaming in the moonlight."Julian, move," Damien's voice was quiet but held an unquestionable authority.Julian laughed like a madman, his eyes wild."Move? My fiancée is about to marry someone else, and you're telling me to move?" He took a few steps forward. "Elara, come with me! We'll go to a church right now. We'll get married!""Julian, y

Because of the interruption, the Don rescheduled the engagement ceremony for midnight, three days later. The next evening, while I was in the garden tending to my grandmother's herbs, Damien appeared. He was still wearing his black coat and leaning on his silver cane, but his face looked even paler than the night before."Elara," he said, stopping beside me, his voice hesitant. "I need to talk to you."I put down the lavender I was holding and turned to him. "What is it?""About the engagement," he said, looking at me with a complex mix of emotions. "If you regret it, it's not too late to call it off. I don't want you to be bound by a momentary impulse...""I don't regret it," I interrupted, my tone firm. "Damien, I know exactly what I'm doing.""But Elara, do you know what marrying me means?" His voice was pained. "We will be bound for life. Once you choose me, that bond is permanent...""I understand all of that. This was a deliberate decision," I said, stepping closer and looking hi

The engagement rites began.Members of the Blackwood family lined the hall, their gazes no longer filled with scorn, but with a new respect, even fear. I stepped onto the red carpet and walked slowly toward Damien. He stood waiting for me, his eyes fixed on mine.My nerves made my steps unsteady, and I stumbled forward.A pair of strong arms caught me.The familiar scent of cedarwood and tuberose surrounded me. It was Damien's unique scent. Even after being reborn, it instantly brought back memories buried deep in my soul.In my past life, on countless lonely nights, that scent was my only comfort. When everyone else betrayed me, he was the only one who silently stood by me."Careful," he murmured, his voice low and gentle.I looked up at his pale, handsome face, my heart racing."Thank you," I whispered.Just then, the hall doors were thrown open violently.Julian burst in, reeking of blood, his clothes torn from a fight. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked murderous."Wait!" he ye

The farce ended with a sharp rebuke from the Don. His stern gaze swept over Seraphina and Julian. Seraphina flinched and hid behind Julian. Finally, he gave me a reassuring look.Alistair slowly ascended the dais, his voice echoing through the hall. "Today, there is an important announcement to be made. As per the agreement made years ago, Elara will choose her husband. Her choice will also influence my decision on who will be the next Don."All eyes turned to me."As a member of this family," Alistair continued, "Elara will receive the status and power she is owed."He paused, looking around the hall. "From this night on, control of the North Docks, a thirty percent stake in the Moonglow Syndicate, and the casinos in the East will be her dowry."The hall erupted in gasps.Alistair valued me more than any of them had imagined. The value of those assets was beyond comprehension for most family members. The North Docks controlled a third of the city's goods. The Moonglow Syndicate was on
