Chilli POV
Lowering my chest to the ground, sniffing the moist grass and damp leaves, feeling them under my paws as I kneed at the ground. My tail sways in the breeze which carries the chill of the lake nearby, and my pointy ears twitch with every russel, every twig snapping. In the far distance, a bee searches the wildflowers for nectar, as I watch, I am lost in the beautiful movement of its delicate wings, forgetting for a brief moment what I am doing. Regaining my concentration, I welcome my wolf instincts to aid me in finding my prize. The world around me falls silent and still, as I slow my breathing and heart rate to become at one with my surroundings. Ignoring the rippling of the lake's surface as a fish comes up for air, ignoring the flapping of wings in the trees above, ignoring all other scents and just focusing on finding the one, a sound, a ... there! I push off, launching myself forward into a canter and after a large, dark blur to the right of me. In his hasHanding me a towel Elias says,"I'll start running the shower, it can take a few minutes to warm up sometimes,"Wrapping it around myself, I snuggle into it getting lost in the heavenly feel, this is what I imagine a cloud would feel like. "Meet you in there?" He laughs, knowing I'm not really listening as he disappears inside. "Hey, hun, your phone is ringing," Elias calls, "wow, shit Chilli," he gasps as I join him inside but he's nowhere to be seen,"Elias?""Bedroom." I walk in to find Elias holding my cell phone, handing it to me, his face full of utter bewilderment."If it's an unknown caller, I saw it earlier but something fel..." my words fall away as I look at the illuminated screen, "what the...?" I stare, unable to blink, sixty-plus missed calls and nearly as many texts, all from the same withheld number. "Holy crap," verbalising my thoughts."Someone sure wants to get ahold of you," he says, stating the obvious, "but who?" My eyes widen when it im
Sam POV "See," Logan smiles, " I was right, everything is fine.""No Logan," I growl at him, "you were wrong! I told you Maria wouldn't listen to you! Of course she wouldn't, if she thought there was even the smallest chance of getting you back, that it would help her get you back, she'd do it.""So she called a few times and sent some texts, okay, yes, she didn't listen but everyone is okay," he shrugs it off like it's not a big deal."Not the point Logan," I snap. "Do you even care?" "Of course I do!" Raising his voice slightly at me, finally showing some other emotion apart from bloody humour."Well then show it!" I stop myself from truly losing my temper as I start to calm myself, "you want back in? To stay with this pack? Continue to be my beta?" The colour drains from his face, I'm guessing he never thought he'd hear these words aimed at him coming from me, I don't think he realised how far he has push it, how much he'd fucked up until right this
The next dayLeaning in the doorway of the ensuite as I watch the most beautiful and important person to me in the world, pack our bags."Here," I say, handing her our toiletries with a kiss on the cheek,"Thanks huni," putting them in our respective bags, "that's everything.""Are you sure?" I ask her."Yes, I think so," she says, doing a third mental checklist, "Yep, that's everything," zipping them closed."Great," picking up the bags and taking them out to the car, Chilli follows but lingers at the door, looking downhearted. "It's okay Chilli, I told you will be back," her puppy dog eyes beam down at me from the decking, "I promise," she smiles at me and descends the steps to join me by the car, embracing me. I hold her tight, inhaling her sweet scent, "I know you are worried and hesitant about heading home, but it will all be okay," I soothe her, stroking her long, silky hair, "whatever father has planned will be in your best interest, he wouldn't d
"Yes, but the others feared them and what they could do, it was the time of the witch hunts and sadly some were mistaken for being witches. Even some werewolf packs were hesitant of them, whereas others praised and worshipped them. It was a messy, complicated time. The depictions of their wolf forms are incredible in size and colours, of golds, reds etc. my point is if I'm right then you have more strength and power than any of us." We sit in silence, digesting father's words, his crazy words when he pulls out a book, earmarked at a certain page to reveal a hand-sketched picture, surrounded by foreign text."Chilli," I gasp, "it's your wolf form, your colouring of red, golden flecks, it looks so much like your wolf." Chilli stares on, speechless."After that day when I saw your power in person and up close, it got me thinking and reminded me of the old stories my grandfather would tell me about when I was a kid. He'd tell me stories about these fantastic creatures and
Standing in the training room I feel self-conscious and uneasy as Sam asks,"Are you ready?" "Ready for what?" I answer my father-in-law with a question, "I'm still not sure how to prepare for this?" "Before you begin," Elias steps in, "it's been playing on my mind, why tomorrow? Why did it have to be tomorrow? Why not next week, then there'd be more time to prepare.""So Logan can't riggle his way out of it, it needs to happen sooner rather than later because..." Sam trails off looking at me,"Because I need to do this to feel safe in my own home, in this pack. To show I belong and will not lay back and take his shit. To show him I am the next luna and he must respect me. This needs to happen tomorrow before I feel intimidated not to and chicken out.""Yes." Sam agrees."Okay," Elias says, "how can I help?" Like me, finally understanding Sam's thinking."We need to help Chilli harness her hidden talent.""And how are you going to do
"Chilli, It's okay," Sam tries to reassure me, "you really are doing great. Okay, so from what you just said, you focused in on Elias and your bond. Which makes sense and is great, now let's use that.""How?" I question. "How does that make sense?" Elias buts in and Sam pulls a face again as if we are idiots."Think about it you two, when you finally saw each other as mates, Chilli, you had been through and overcome some serious shit. So your bond was like salvation after the storm." "Hu, never thought about it that way before," I ponder aloud, is that what started to unlock this added power he is on about? Did my love, need and want for him and to save his life help this power bloom? "From the reports of that night, you somehow basically healed Elias. If it wasn't for you Chilli, I'd be a childless father, and that's something no parent wants. Thanks to you, my son lives, because of your power and your rare heritage. And I am so thankful and overjoyed to have and call you my daugh
Elias POV Her flames tickle my skin, making it feel all tingly, as it vanishes but not before igniting a fiery passion and need to have her. I want her so badly right now, it almost hurts. She is ... there are no words that do her magnificence justice. The sight of her on fire should have scared the shit out of me, but it didn't, I was just in awe of her. My mate is heavenly when illuminated like that, pure vision of grace and love, our love? My love for her? Just wow."Well good, get a good night's sleep, you're going to need it," father says.Ha, there's no way we are getting any sleep any time soon, opening a mind-link with Chilli, ''Not very likely, I have a few ideas and none of them involves any sleeping, at least not any time soon'. I tell her, holding her tightly until father bids us goodbye and goodnight. As soon as the door closes behind him I pull Chilli in for a soulful, deep kiss. She purrs and nips at my lower lip, playfully. The next thing I kno
The next day Chilli POV 'So much for a good night's sleep', I think to myself squinting at my bedside clock. Three-thirty am. We exhausted ourselves after round four I think it was, and conked out pretty quickly. Now a sickly feeling forms in my stomach at the thought of what this day brings. I stare at the seconds ticking by hoping it will help me drift back off to sleep before this nauseating feeling settles. My eyes begin to feel heavy as Elias moves in the bed next to me and rolls over, pulling me in close. I purr in his arms as everything goes dark and peaceful as I return to the land of dreams. When I reawake at a more reasonable hour, I strangely feel perfectly rested, like I've slept for a week. Sitting up and staring out the window at the beautiful sunny day, it feels like any other day, not the day I'm to stand in front of the packhouse and make my father submit to me. I inspect my hands as I turn them over in front of me, it feels crazy, like
