Selene's POV

The warmth of the sun pried my eyes open, its golden rays stretching across my bed. My brows furrowed as I turned toward the window. I distinctly remembered shutting it last night, ensuring the drapes fell thick and heavy against the glass. Yet now, they swayed gently as if someone had drawn them open.

A prickle of unease crawled up my spine. Instinctively, I turned over, and that’s when I saw her.

Ronan’s mother.

She stood near the foot of my bed, her gaze sharp and unwavering, studying me like a puzzle she had almost solved.

I sat up instantly, the sheets pooling around my waist. "Do you always make it a habit to walk into people’s rooms uninvited?" My voice was steady, but irritation prickled beneath my skin.

Her lips twitched into something resembling amusement. "Sit up properly. I need to speak with you."

I scoffed, pulling my legs up and resting my arms over my knees. "The fact that you own this house doesn’t mean you can waltz in here whenever you please."

Nelly’s POV The second I stepped into Ronan’s house, everyone turned toward me. Elias, Keiran, Lora, Lady Eleanor, and even Lawrence all stood tense, their eyes heavy with unspoken questions. I dropped my bag on the floor and held up the small recorder, its red light still blinking.“I got it,” I said, breathless but triumphant. “I have Lord Edric’s confession. He admitted everything—his alliance with Leo, his willingness to let us all burn just to keep his son safe.”Keiran stiffened. I saw his fists clench, his jaw tighten. I couldn’t imagine what it felt like, knowing your father was a traitor. But he only nodded once, his face stony. Strong.Ronan stepped forward, taking the recorder from me. “This changes everything.”“You can use it against him,” I said. “We expose him, and the entire council will turn against Leo.”“We will,” Ronan replied. “But first, we finish this.”He turned to the table, where a thick, rune-covered book lay open, glowing faintly under the flicker of c

Lawrence’s POV I walked down the corridor with a steaming mug in my hand, the scent of bitter herbs rising from it. The house was too quiet. For a place holding one of the strongest young wolves I’d ever known, it should have been humming with energy. But there was nothing. No footfalls. No rustle of sheets. Just silence, thick and heavy.I reached Luka’s door, nudging it open with my shoulder. “Brought you something warm,” I said, forcing a light tone.Silence.My smile faltered.I stepped inside—and froze. The bed was empty. The IV bags I had seen hanging earlier were gone. The sheets were pulled back as if someone had taken their time. The room didn’t look disturbed. It looked… staged. My hands tightened around the mug until it burned my palms. “Luka?” I whispered. No response.I dropped the mug. It shattered against the floor, splashing the bitter contents across the polished wood.I spun around and stormed down the hall, grabbing one of the junior sentinels by the collar. “Wh

Selene's POV I was floating. Not dreaming. Not sleeping.Just… floating. It felt like the wind had wrapped its arms around me and was carrying me off gently, like I was a feather plucked from a dying bird. My eyes fluttered open, only to widen in shock.I was looking at myself. There—my body. Pale. Motionless. My hand stained red, blood trailing from my palm onto the floorboards. Elias and Lora were crouched over me, their mouths moving fast, panic written across their faces. Was I… dead? No, I wasn’t. I could feel a tether pulling at me, weak but present. I hadn’t crossed over. But something else was happening—something I didn’t understand. I heard my name echo softly in the distance, like a whisper skipping through the wind.“Selene…”I turned, slowly, and the room around me blurred. Like mist folding into itself, everything vanished. My surroundings began to shift—walls melted into trees, wood into dirt, and the warm lamps turned into the cold blue glow of moonlight.I was outsi

Leo’s POV The basement reeked of damp stone, blood, and the metallic bite of fear. I inhaled deeply, savoring the scent like a fine wine. The sound of ragged breathing echoed off the stone walls, each gasp a harsh reminder that the man tied to the chair in front of me was barely clinging to life.“Won’t be long now,” I said, crouching in front of him with a grin. “She’ll be here soon. Your long-lost daughter.”The man tried to lift his head, his face bloodied and bruised, his beard soaked in sweat. One eye was swollen shut, the other glassy with pain. He tried to speak, but all that came out was a rasping groan.“You should be honored,” I added, patting his shoulder mockingly. “You get to be part of history, old man. The moment Selene loses everything.”Behind me, Gazelle chuckled, her voice cold and sharp. “Poor Selene. So much power, so little idea what to do with it. Once Luka is gone, she’ll be even easier to break.”I stood up and turned toward her. She was already dressed in

Selene’s POVThe room was quiet, too quiet. The kind of silence that wraps around you like a heavy cloak, suffocating and still. I sat on the edge of the bed, my fingers tangled in the sheets, trying to focus on anything other than the storm brewing in my chest. I hadn’t slept in what felt like days, and my body was begging for rest, but my mind wouldn’t stop spinning. The air felt heavier now, like it was warning me that something terrible was approaching. I could almost taste it on my tongue.A soft knock broke the silence. I turned, expecting maybe Elias, or Ronan, or even Teresa again—but instead, it was Lady Eleanor who stepped in. Her presence brought a calm with it, a steadiness I hadn’t realized I needed until that moment. Her eyes studied me carefully, her silver hair pinned neatly behind her ears. “You look exhausted, child,” she said gently, stepping in fully and closing the door behind her. “But that’s not surprising considering the chaos I saw outside. What’s going on, Se

Leo's POV The call came in just as I was finishing a glass of crimson wine, the taste thick and sour against my tongue. I knew it would be good news the moment the phone buzzed. Only one person dared to contact me at this hour—my shadow in the dark, the one who’d been watching Luka’s every step since we set the wheels in motion.I answered with a single word. “Talk.”“He’s home,” my spy said. “Barely made it. Car’s wrecked. He collapsed at the doorstep. His brother found him and dragged him in. The healer’s there now.”A smile stretched across my lips, slow and satisfied. “So the accident did its job.”“Yes, my Lord. The spell took hold faster than we expected.”“Excellent. Keep watching. If he dies before dawn, we’ll have everything we need.”I ended the call and tossed the phone onto the table. Gazelle, who was lounging across the velvet couch with a book of ancient tongues in her lap, looked up at me with a lazy grin.“Let me guess,” she drawled. “Our little wolf prince is hangi

Keiran's POV The sleek black car rolled into the courtyard like a shadow gliding across the earth. I recognized it immediately, my father’s. Lord Edric stepped out with the same air of composed dominance he always wore like a second skin. His sharp eyes scanned the scene before landing on me. “Keiran,” he said, straightening his coat. “Why is the venue empty? What happened?” I didn’t answer immediately. I watched his face closely—the twitch of his eye, the subtle shift in his brows. Was that surprise real? Or just another mask? “We’re in danger,” I finally said. “Ronan dismissed the guests. Something’s happening, and we’re trying to stop it before anyone else gets hurt.” His lips pressed into a thin line. “Danger? From whom?” I almost laughed. “Isn’t that the question of the hour?” Before he could respond, Ronan strode up to us, his expression grim. “Keiran. Lord Edric.” My father nodded at him. “Alpha Ronan.” “We’ve just received word,” Ronan said. “Luka’s been in a car ac

Ronan's POV The room was thick with tension. Elias sat hunched forward, fingers tapping against the table in a silent rhythm, while Luka leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, his eyes watching me like a hawk waiting for the truth to drop.“We return to the party,” I said, my voice low but firm. “Act like nothing is wrong. Like we don’t know Gazelle’s plan. If we show our hand too early, she’ll shift hers, and that could be more dangerous.”Luka frowned. “So we pretend to be clueless?”“No,” I said, standing. “We pretend to be civilized.”Elias gave a bitter chuckle. “Something we’re not very good at when blood is involved.”Before I could respond, the door creaked open and Selene stepped in. She looked elegant, even in urgency, her heels clicking softly on the marble floor as she approached.“I’m sorry for interrupting,” she said, holding out a letter. “But Gazelle isn’t coming. A butler brought this.”I took it from her, scanning the lines, and instantly, a pit formed in my stomac

Selene's POV The grand hall was a sea of glittering gowns and wolfish smiles, but none of it distracted me. My eyes roamed the crowd with silent precision, scanning for even the slightest sign of Gazelle. Or Leo.Neither had shown up yet, which only made my skin crawl more.I wasn’t sure what to expect, but that was the problem. Gazelle was clever—too clever to move openly, and Leo was just as dangerous, if not more. If they wanted to strike, it wouldn’t be loud. It would be calculated. Quiet. Lethal. My fingers brushed the edge of my dress. The dagger sewn into the lining was still there. Good.I had just turned to greet a couple from the Northern Pack when I saw her—Lora.Again.I almost sighed out loud. She walked toward me like she was on a mission. The same haughty expression painted across her face, her red dress clinging too tightly around her, screaming for attention. I already knew this wasn’t going to be a civil chat.I turned away, already beginning to walk off, but her
