Phoebe's POV.

I sighed at my thoughts. I was being suspicious of the person who helped me when everyone turned their backs on me including my own mate. He abandoned me, I presumed that he had known that I was his mate a long time ago.

But he cleverly hid it because he had no feelings at all for me. He joined hands with his mother and lover to wreck my life. He rejected me without thinking twice about the pain it would cause my wolf.

Thankfully I never had any feelings for him because he had crushed me too many times and had made me hate him and his father to the extent that severing the mate bond was nothing to me.

Just a little twinge and I was fine. I had no right to doubt Alpha Kingston's intentions for me;He stood up to those evil people and carried a petty slave in his arms.

Thinking of his arms, I felt that sensation again as I recalled his his warm skin touched mine. His skin looked smooth and felt soft unlike mine that was rough from working like my life depended on it and unfortunately my life really did depend on how much I worked.

I stared at the food and my stomach churned, I recovered my appetite in a instant and dug into the food.

After eating, I took the medications according to prescription written on them, I kept the tray on the drawer beside my bed and sighed.

I took the opportunity to look at the room. I was in no hospital but the Pack house.

I was on the Pack house, I had a home. I laid on the bed and smiled at the thought of having a home that I could be welcomed in.

Suddenly I recalled the smile of Alpha Kingston and my wolf and I felt happy at the rememberance.

I stepped out of the restroom the next morning and walked slowly to my bed.

The doctor and nurses came to check on me.

"I can see that you are getting better rapidly" The doctor said, he was gray haired and had a fatherly smile on his lips.

He was old and I could tell he was the pack's doctor but his age didn't interfere with his knowledge. I was amazed by his intelligence, I hoped to be this smart when I get to his age.

"You are getting better"

"Do you call this better?" I scoffed and showed him my hands that still had unhealed wounds on them.

I was still feeling sick and the pains hadn't reduced too much . I couldn't help cussing Sasha and Mark's mother for the pain that they inflicted on me.

"You were not only wounded externally but also internally you are a really strong woman to withstand those conditions because there were a lot damages done to your bones and internal organs and that was affecting your wolf but seeing you recover so fast is a good progression"He said wisely.

I chide myself for my naivety, how could I question him when I didn't pay for any of his services. I should count myself fortunate instead of complaining.

One of the nurses attached me to an IV drip because I needed more nutrients. It was discomforting but I had to endure it. They left me after some time.

"Good morning," Beta Axel smiled as he walked in.

He was good looking but nothing compared to Alpha Kingston. His smile was friendly and suited him well but it was nothing compared to Alpha Kingston's radiant and dazzling smile.

"Morning, Beta Axel" I greeted back and he walked close to my bed.

I wondered why he was here.

"I apologize for telling the Alpha about the incident with his father but it was better that he heard it from me because it would have been more exaggerated if Uncle had told him about it and I am sure that Lina would have worsened the issue with lies"

Lina, that name didn't suit her at all because she was more troubled than the ocean.

I hoped that I wouldn't see her again and even if I did, the best thing would be to a avoid any contact with her.

"With her display yesterday, that name doesn't suit her," I said nonchalantly.

Beta Axel laughed but nodded in agreement because I was right to some extent.

"Beta Axel, if I may ask;do you know why the Alpha brought me?" I asked, curiously.

I reasoned Beta Axel to be a man of truth and that he would not be lying about anything but I couldn't judge that fast either because he was the friend of Alpha Kingston.

They are sealed by friendship and father;therefore, I doubt if he was really going to tell the truth.

"I don't really know why he brought you but he asked me to check up on you and attend to your needs whenever he was absent, so don't worry about anything because the Alpha always has good intentions for people" Beta Axel replied with a smile.

I stared at him and saw his sincerity while he was speaking, even though I wasn't aware of the reason Alpha Kingston brought me here but I was still happy being away from all the beatings and maltreatment.

I would have died. Even my wolf was getting tired of the frequent torture.

"Beta Axel" I called with a little pout.

"I want to go outside, I'm so tired of being stuck in here" I pouted, I was feeling extremely bored here.

I couldn't work or do anything to keep myself busy, I didn't even have any games to play.

"Alpha Kingston hasn't given you any permission to leave your room, you can not go out of here but I can keep you entertained for the meantime" Beta Axel replied.

He went to take a chair and the corner and came to sit beside my bed.

"You will tell jokes?"

"Yes, I'm good at it. Trust me" He grinned.

"What did the bacon say to the cook?" He asked and I couldn't give a response.

I shrugged.

"Please don't stuff me in between that butt-like bread" He said and it was the most tasteless home I have heard.

But I don't know why I found myself laughing, especially because of his funny face

.

He told more jokes and they became interesting to listen to. I roared in laughter and so did he.

I laughed and laughed, I have not had this much of a good laugh in a long time. I laughed to the extent that tears were dropping from my eyes.

I was in pain from the excess laughter but I couldn't stop laughing.

We laughed and enjoyed each other's company to the extent that we didn't realize that someone was watching us.

I slowly lifted my eyes from his feet to his face. It was Alpha Kingston.

He didn't look happy at all, he was staring at us especially Beta Axel like he was going to skin him alive.

I swallowed hard because of the unpleasant expression on his face.

"Axel, what are you doing here?" He asked in his Alpha tone that made me shiver.
