Victor's POV

I looked down at her again. Her face was soaked, red and blotchy, her eyes wide with fear. She clung to me like I was her only hope.

For a second, I was startled by a strange feeling when I looked into her eyes. They held a kind of fear that brought back a surprising memory of Camilla.

Not the Camilla I later came to hate, but the one I thought I knew. The one who would sit quietly beside me, brushing her fingers across mine like I meant the world to her.

The girl on the floor looked like her for a breath too long that it made my stomach twist. I stared harder, trying to kill the illusion, but the resemblance played tricks on my mind.

A bitter laugh slipped out as I shook my head.

I had been such a fool.

All this time, I thought Camilla was my fated mate. I let her trick me. I let her own me. I turned my back on Selene because I thought fate knew better than my heart.
