Christopher followed silently behind me, his presence like a stormy cloud. Richard spotted us in the hallway but he said nothing and walked right past. A few servants lingered in the hallway, they watched, their eyes following but I held my head up high as I walked back to the room.

"I don't have much to pack. We should be on our way" I said softly.

"I have to make arrangements and then we can leave" I nodded and settled into the chair.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Christopher suddenly

I sat under a tree, arms wrapped around myself as I watched King Leonidas and Christopher talk. Their exchange was calm, nothing heated in the way it used to be. I sat quietly and waited and after a while, Christopher walked away leaving King Leonidas and me alone. He didn't walk towards me and I averted my gaze, trying to rid myself of any expectation. When a twig broke under his boot, I looked up, king Leonidas was facing me, a blank look on his face. We held each other's gaze, neither of us willing to back down. But his intense stare began to rouse emotions that I had buried so I looked away and helped myself to my feet. I scanned the clearing. "Where is Christopher?" I mumbled, not expecting an answer. "He's gone""Gone?" My eyes snapped back to meet his again. There was no hint that he was joking about it. Had Christopher really left? Why? And without a word to me? What happened to our plans of leaving together?"I'll be leaving now. Thank you" I muttered. "I can't let you g

The disturbing sound of water dripping roused me up. Slowly, the world materialized in front of me. I immediately noticed my bound feet and when I fully opened my eyes, I saw Christopher bound, hands and legs on the ground. There had been an explosion and he asked me to run. Something knocked me off my feet and everything went black. We’d been captured. “Christopher” I called in a whisper, I moved closer to him, nudging him but his eyes didn’t open. Instead, the large door opened with a noisy creak. A man entered, his face marred by scars from what I could only assume was battle. Behind him, a familiar figure stalked closer, a satisfied look on her face. “Isabelle” I croaked and she cackled. “We meet again” she announced triumphantly, like she had waited a long time to say that to me.“Unfortunately” I muttered and her expression darkened. “Unfortunately?” “I’m not exactly excited to see you and I don’t know what you intend to achieve with this but it’s useless. It won’t be like

KING LEONIDAS POVI sat in the same spot until morning came. I'd gone through bottles of alcohol and nothing seemed to be dealing with the hollow feeling in my chest. Richard had dropped by earlier with some information I'd not bothered to listen to. Fenrir had lingered longer than I'd liked and it pissed me off. I glanced at the empty bottle and reached for another, loving the feeling of it burning the back of my throat. I'd not expected her to leave or maybe I'd convinced myself it wouldn't happen. I'd been tempted to refuse too. To order her back to her room until I made the decision myself but I'd stopped myself right on time. I didn't have any reason to keep her here. My plan with her was complete. Done. But my mind was still stuck on what I could have done differently to keep her here. As punishment for stealing. That was what I told myself.'Ours' my wolf growled in my head, unhappy with my decision to let her go and everything that had happened but I wouldn't agree with him

Christopher suddenly asked and I scowled at him. "What is it with you trying to make me rethink every decision that I make. You asked me to leave. No. You pleaded with me to get away from the king. You said it was the better choice and just when I've agreed with you that it truly is, you want me to rethink" Maybe I was better off doing things on my own. Christopher was beginning to come off as unreliable."I don't want you to. I'm just...I don't know how things will play out with your sudden decision to leave. I

My heart felt like it had been clawed open and my bloody shattered heart was handed over to me in my cold hands. I cried until the tears refused to come. Until my throat felt so sore. It felt like it had been filled with sandpaper. And when I finally collapsed in bed, the tears stopped. Just vanished as I'd never cried. I started at the ceiling, feeling empty inside. When the door opened, I didn't move and when Arin slipped in beside me, she wrapped her arms around me until I slept. I woke up some time later in the day and she was still there. "You slept for a while" I nodded. "My body needed it" Her eyes stayed on me like she had more questions to ask but she didn't. "I want to see Christopher" I said and she frowned. "The king...""I need to see Christopher Arin" I repeated, pushing all the urgency in my voice. She nodded "I can make it happen. But it cannot be today" I bit down the protest that I almost let out and nodded. "It's fine. Tomorrow then?" She nodded. "Tomorrow"

KING LEONIDAS POVThe sound of sobbing followed the click of the lock. I turned away and walked towards my office, Fenrir following closely behind me. The bottle of unopened scotch that had been sitting on my table untouched for days called to me. I didn't resist this time, pouring the drink into a glass and drinking it down. Fenrir watched me silently. The little shit had ruined everything. I wanted to smash his head into the wall but I had to control myself and my explosive anger. "I think you made a..." I didn't let him finish, I hurled the bottle towards his head and he moved out of the way just in time for the bottle to narrowly avoid smashing into his head. The bottle landed with a loud crash and the smell of alcohol enveloped my office. "You had just one fucking job" I growled at him. "I had no idea you were going to be there" he tried to explain but it only got me angrier."And what the fuck did you plan to do?" "Talk to her. I could have convinced her I was Finn and if an

Everything became still. Time stopped and I forgot how to speak. My fingers trembled by my side, despite my attempts to still them. Fear crept up my spine as I stared at the truth but refused to believe it. "You are...the king" My voice was breathless...shaky, full of disbelief. He doesn't respond

I didn't stop running long after I was out of that room. I narrowly missed bumping into walls because of my blurry vision. When my legs finally gave out underneath me, I was somewhere I didn't recognize. A narrow hallway. My hands shook as I pulled my knees to my chest. I'd murdered a man. An in

She turned away and walked to the exit. She didn't say the words but I knew she expected me to follow her. I'd come to understand that some instructions didn't need to be uttered by words. And in this castle, those instructions were expected to be obeyed. No time for questions. I followed her, ig
