LOGINThe heat burned unbearably. King Leonidas stood above me, his face filled with desire but he didn't touch me. "Please" I begged again, arching my back and spreading my legs. His eyes darkened more and he moved closer. The bed dipped under his weight as he climbed onto it. He hovered over me and I reached out to touch him.He grabbed both of my wrists in one hand, stopping their movement with the tight grip of his fingers."It can't be one time" he growled, the vibration traveling down my body like an electric pulse."Yessss" I moaned louder, I didn't care what his condition was. I wanted him NOW!"Anytime I want....anywhere" he growled again and my head was instantly filled with images of me being taken in odd places. In an open hallway where anyone could pass and see, over his table, in this bed, pressed against shelves, and the smell of books filling up my head."YESSS" I was louder this time, perhaps to convince him of my need. His second hand brushed against my knees and my pu
KING LEONIDAS POV The words sounded strange even to me. But I'd seen one too many heats to not know the signs or make a mistake. But how could it be? She was human. Or was she? There was no world where humans had heats. And the scent, it was straight out of the dirtiest fantasies I'd ever had. Her scent was maddening. The smell of jasmine was intoxicating…dizzying. And the ambrosia, it turned darker, thicker. Not just something to be smelled but tasted, to be drunk until there was nothing left of her. I stared at her body writhing on the bed. I was frozen in place, and for the first time, I didn’t know what to do. “Ahhh” she moaned and I took a step forward. Big mistake. The air snapped tight, her scent amplified, and my control fractured. My beast reared its ugly head, wanting a taste of the woman that gathered his interest but I would never permit him to meet. It was just too dangerous. “Please” she cried, her voice was needy with desire, a sound that almost became my undoin
“Cara?” I repeated in shock and her smile brightened. “You look surprised” “I…” Didn’t Lauren mention that Cara had been murdered by the king? What was she doing here in front of me and smiling?“I’m the king’s cousin darling” she said with a wider smile. My shoulders dropped in relief and she noticed. She laughed as she stood up. “You look as white as a ghost”“Here, sit down. The poison effects can last for an even longer period after it has been taken out of your system” She knew about the poison too? “King Leonidas called us in as soon as the culprit was caught” I nodded still watching her, unable to utter a word. What were the chances that the king’s cousin would share the same name as an old lover of his? I found it very unsettling.“Rebeccah?” She gently nudged me. “I’m sorry. Just a bit lost. Forgive me” she laughed again. “So tell me, where did you meet my cousin? And how did you get so close to him? It’s not an easy feat for any woman to achieve” I frowned at her words
My eyes opened slowly to a calmness I’ve never felt in all my years of living. There was no confusion or pressure in my head, no pain…just peace. “She’s awake” a tense voice said and a man’s handsome face came above me and I frowned at the strange face. “I’ll help you to sit up and…” A growl stopped him and he stepped away immediately. King Leonidas' face replaced his own in the next second. His expression was taut and guarded, almost a loud warning that he was restraining himself. His hands helped me up to a sitting position and my skin tingled from his touch.“Thank you” I mumbled, my throat scratchy and dry from lack of use. His response was a grunt and he stepped away. The first man returned, wearing a cautious smile as he approached me again. “I’m Zeus. The king’s private healer” I frowned and then the memories poured in, disrupting the calmness that I’d woken up to. Someone tried to shoot the king and I’d jumped in. The pain…my hands slapped against my chest as I felt around
KING LEONIDAS POVThe ground shook underneath my feet as she dropped. I moved immediately, crouching beside her as pain filled whimpers passed through her lips. I looked up in the direction the arrow had come from. “Don’t just fucking stand there” I snarled at the guards. “Fucking go after him now. I want him alive and don’t bother showing your fucking face to me if you don’t find him” The men darted into the forest and I pulled Rebeccah into my arms. The blood had soaked through the front of her shirt. I still couldn’t believe that she had thrown herself in front of an arrow for me.“Why?” I asked in a hard voice. She hated me as far as I knew. My fist clenched beside me as I touched the spot the arrow had gone through. “I’m going to pull it out” I tried to speak softly but it came out hostile and I cussed mentally. But she hummed, uncaring of my tone. Her eyelid fluttered and my chest rumbled. “Pain…” she moaned and my fingers tore through the front of her dress. The area around
I zoned out during the trial. I could hardly pay attention to anything. King Leonidas' arms were like a hot band around my midriff. And despite all, it brought me comfort. It stopped me from having another panic attack as the trial continued. Unconsciously, I’d relaxed into him and he didn’t seem to mind. I didn’t think much about it right now but later, I’ll mentally question the reason for his attitude today. No verdict was given. The prisoners were led out of the hall and the jury got to their feet. King Leonidas helped me to my feet and led me through the same way we had come. A guard opened an empty room on the same hallway and we entered. I collapsed into the nearest chair and his eyes watched me. “Will you like a drink?” He asked as he inspected the bottles that had been laid out. “No” I said immediately and watched him pour himself one. Silence settled over the room until I spoke again. “Why are you always drinking?” I tried to keep the disgust out of my voice but it
I fumed in the cell. My attempt to escape had been thwarted and I ended up locked in a smelly dungeon. Again. I was so pissed. Especially at that incredibly handsome man that had deceived me. But he won't get to laugh for long. I was going to find him, and expose his extracurricular activities. An
Everything became still. Time stopped and I forgot how to speak. My fingers trembled by my side, despite my attempts to still them. Fear crept up my spine as I stared at the truth but refused to believe it. "You are...the king" My voice was breathless...shaky, full of disbelief. He doesn't respond
She turned away and walked to the exit. She didn't say the words but I knew she expected me to follow her. I'd come to understand that some instructions didn't need to be uttered by words. And in this castle, those instructions were expected to be obeyed. No time for questions. I followed her, ig
I didn't stop running long after I was out of that room. I narrowly missed bumping into walls because of my blurry vision. When my legs finally gave out underneath me, I was somewhere I didn't recognize. A narrow hallway. My hands shook as I pulled my knees to my chest. I'd murdered a man. An in
