(Sierra's POV)

I can tell you the exact second my life fell apart.

It was eight in the evening on my eighteenth birthday. The grand hall of the Bloodmoon Pack house was packed to the brim. Hundreds of wolves stood shoulder to shoulder, their voices humming in the air like a storm waiting to break.

The scent of roasted meat and sweet berry wine filled the room, but beneath it all was the heavy, suffocating smell of damp fur and sweat. It was supposed to be the best night of my life. The night I finally turned eighteen, found my mate, and took my rightful place in the pack.

Instead, I was staring down at a shattered ceramic mug on the pale marble floor. Dark rosehip tea pooled around my shoes, staining the white rug my mother had given me years ago.

"You are out of your mind, Sarah," I snapped. My voice echoed off the high stone walls.

Three steps above me on the raised dais, Lady Sarah trembled.

Sarah had been my best friend since we were seven years old. She was the girl who braided my hair when the other pack kids threw rocks at me. She was the one who swore we would always be like sisters, even if I was just a scentless, unbonded nobody.

Now, she stood clutching the dark sleeve of Alpha Logan’s jacket. Her blonde hair fell in soft, damp waves over her shoulders, and tears streamed down her perfectly flushed cheeks.

"I’m not lying, Sierra," Sarah sobbed. Her voice cracked in a pitch-perfect display of pure misery.

She pressed herself closer to Logan, her small hands gripping his muscular arm. "I didn't want this to happen. We tried to fight it. But we can't hide it anymore."

I stared at Logan. The man I had loved since I was sixteen. The man who had held my hand under the moonlight just last week, whispering that no matter what happened on my birthday, he would choose me.

Logan didn't look at me. He kept his eyes locked on the crowd, his jaw set so tight I could hear his teeth grinding.

"She’s telling the truth, Sierra," Logan said. His voice was cold. It cut deeper than any blade. "The Moon Goddess didn't pair me with you. Sarah is my mate."

A wave of sharp whispers rippled through the crowd.

“Of course she is.”

“Sierra has no wolf scent anyway."

“Did she really think an Alpha would choose a weakling?”

My heart hammered against my ribs so hard it hurt to breathe. "Logan, look at me," I begged, taking a step forward. "You told me—"

"I told you what you wanted to hear because I felt sorry for you!" Logan cut me off, his voice booming through the hall. He stepped down from the dais, towering over me. "Look at yourself, Sierra. You're eighteen and you don't even have a wolf spark. You're useless to this pack. How could you ever stand beside me as Luna?"

Laughter broke out among the guard circle. Beta Brandon smirked from the front row, crossing his arms over his broad chest. My own half-sister, Mia, giggled loudly behind her glass of wine, while my stepmother Evelyn watched with a cold, triumphant smile.

I looked toward the back of the room, desperately searching for my father.

Marcus Vance, the pack’s chief scholar, met my eyes for half a second. Then, slowly, he turned his face away. He shrank back into the shadows, terrified that defending his own daughter would ruin his comfortable position on the pack council.

No one was coming to save me.

"Logan, please..." I whispered, the tears finally burning my eyes. "Don't do this—"

"I, Alpha Logan of the Bloodmoon Pack, hereby reject you, Sierra Vance, as my mate," he said, his voice echoing with Alpha authority.

A horrific, tearing pain slammed into my chest. It felt as if someone had reached inside my ribcage and ripped my heart in half. I collapsed to my knees right into the pool of spilled tea and sharp ceramic shards, gasping for air as the rejection mark scorched my skin like hot iron.

Sarah peeked out from behind Logan's shoulder. For a fraction of a second, her fragile, tear-stained act slipped. A tiny, wicked smile curved her lips as she looked down at me bleeding on the floor.

"Get her out of my sight," Logan commanded, turning his back on me to wrap his arm around Sarah’s waist. "She is no longer welcome in the main house."

Beta Brandon stepped forward, grabbing my hair to yank my head back. "You heard the Alpha, trash. Move."

Before Brandon could drag me out, a small body shoved past him.

"Get your hands off her!"

My younger sister, Liana, dropped to her knees beside me. Her eyes were blazing with anger as she wrapped her arms around my shaking shoulders. She didn't care about the Alpha. She didn't care about the crowd. She glared up at Brandon with total fury.

"If you touch her again, I'll tear your eyes out," Liana spat, her soft voice trembling with rage.

"Liana, stop..." I choked out, clutching her arm. "Don't..."

"I'm not leaving you, Sierra," Liana whispered fiercely in my ear, her small hand pressing tightly against my back. Her warm touch sent a faint, calming wave through my chest, dulling the worst of the rejection pain. "We're getting out of here. Tonight."

Brandon laughed, raising his hand to strike Liana out of the way. "You want to join the weakling, little girl?"

"Enough, Brandon," my father's weak voice finally called out from the back, though he still refused to step forward. "Let them go to the lower cabins."

Brandon scoffed and let go of my hair, kicking a piece of broken mug toward us. "Gutter rats belong in the gutter anyway."

Liana helped me stand up. My legs felt like lead, and every breath I took tasted like blood and ash.

As we slowly walked out of the silent, staring hall, I turned my head one last time.

Sarah was resting her head on Logan's chest, receiving the congratulations of the pack elders.

I was so gullible back then. I had spent eighteen years believing that love, loyalty, and friendship meant something. I had believed Sarah was my sister. I had believed Logan was my future.

I didn't know it yet, but as we stepped out into the freezing rain, something deep inside my chest snapped—and it wasn't just my heart breaking.

A dark, dangerous heat was beginning to stir in my blood.

(Cassian's POV) She was about to use her magic again. Even on my knees, with cold iron digging into my flesh, I could feel the sudden surge through our bond. It was that raw, dark power that always drove me and my inner wolf completely insane. The air around Sierra began to hum. A thick, suffocating heat filled the space between us, turning the freezing fog into rising steam. As much as I would have loved to see my mate in action—to watch her tear Hector and Sarah apart with her bare hands—I couldn't let her do this. Not here. Not in front of these bloodthirsty bastards. If she unleashed her ancient power in front of the entire Red Fang vanguard, every Alpha in the northern territories would declare war on her. They would hunt her down like a wild beast. "Sierra, don't," I growled, my voice hoarse as I thrashed against the heavy links. I don't think she heard me. She was too far away in her own mind. Her dark eyes were fixed on the frosty cobblestones, completely unblin

"He can't save you."Hearing Sarah say those words sent a surge of panic straight through my chest.I looked up through the swirling gray fog. Cassian was on his knees just a few feet away from me. Heavy iron chains were wrapped tight around his broad arms and chest, pulled taut by six Red Fang soldiers whose muscles strained against the iron. His jaw was locked tight, blood trickling from his split lip, and his silver eyes burned with a dark, terrifying fury.He looked like a chained god, wild and lethal, struggling against the heavy metal links until they began to groan under the force. Before I could breathe, Sarah’s hand shot out.CRACK.My head snapped to the side, a sharp, white-hot pain exploding across my cheek. My inner wolf was restless, pacing back and forth behind my ribs, eager for the blood of our enemies.Just as I raised my blade to order the vanguard forward, a quiet disturbance caught my ear from behind.I glanced over my shoulder. Through the crowded courtyard, I saw Liana sprinting toward us. Her dark hair was messy, sticking to her sweaty forehead, and her breath came in ragged gasps. She ran right past the guards and grabbed Sierra's leather sleeve."Liana!" Sierra gasped, spinning around and catching her younger sister by the shoulders. "Where on earth have you been? I've been looking for you everywhere!""I was down in the deep base

Eli moved right at his flank, his sword already drawn. I walked close behind them, my heart hammering like a trapped bird against my ribs.On our side of the gate, dozens of Syndicate warriors stood in tight formation. Their shields were locked together, their spears pointed outward through the iron grates. On the other side of the bridge, a massive army was gathered in the fog. Red banners fluttered in the cold wind, bearing the mark of the Red Fang Pack. Standing right at the center of the bridge, completely unbothered by the armed guards, was Lady Sarah. She wore a rich, fur-trimmed coat over shiny silver armor. Her blonde hair was pinned up perfectly, not a single strand out of place. Beside her stood Alpha Hector—a tall, scarred man

(Sierra's POV)The heavy linen sheets were cold where Cassian should have been.I stretched my arm across the wide bed. My fingers met only smooth, chilled fabric. The spot beside me was completely empty. The deep dent on the feather pillow was the only sign that he had been there at all.A sharp ache flared right in the center of my chest.I sat up fast, pulling the heavy quilt over my bare shoulders. I stared around the quiet room. The fire in the stone hearth had died down to glowing red embers. Long, dark shadows stretched across the walls. The silence was heavy and suffocating.Did he regret it?The thought crept into my mind like cold poison. My heart sank straight into my stomach.Last night had been a blur of raw heat, deep safety, and overwhelming pleasure. He had dropped to his knees without a second thought. (Cassian's POV)The scent of dry cedar and sweet jasmine filled my private room as the fire roared in the large stone hearth. Out in the courtyard, the pack had finally gone quiet. I shut the heavy wooden door and turned around to look at Sierra. She stood near the edge of the sheepskin rug. Her hands were shaking badly as she tried to unbutton her riding sleeves. Sarah’s threat was sitting on the table, but I could tell that was not what was scaring her."Sierra," I said softly, stepping closer. "You are shaking. Talk to me.""I can't stop thinking about Aethelgard," she burst out, her voice loud and frantic. She started pacing back and forth, waving her hands in the air. "You were standing there with no armor! Logan had a raw blade, and when that dirty red magic hit your chest, I thought—I thought I was going to watch you die! I just got you, Cassian! What if he sliced your throat? What if you never woke up? I can't do this if you're going to throw your life away like that, I can't—
