Yara

The next morning, sunlight filtered gently through the tall arched windows of my chambers, painting the golden tapestries in warm hues. My body still ached from the poison and the rejection, but the royal healers had done wonders. I felt stronger, though the constant nausea and dizziness worried me more than I let on.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

“Princess Yara,” came the soft voice of one of my personal maids. “The Royal Physician Elowen requests an audience for your morning checkup.”

I sat up slowly against the pillows, still feeling the deep exhaustion in my bones. “Let her in.”

The maid opened the door fully and announced in a clear, formal tone, “The Royal Physician Elowen and her attendants.”

Physician Elowen entered first, followed by two younger healers in training carrying trays of instruments, herbs, and vials. They all bowed deeply before approaching the bed. Elowen had been with our family for decades — a trusted, no-nonsense woman with sharp eyes and gentle hands. She had treated me as a child for scraped knees and childhood fevers. Seeing her now brought a strange comfort.

“Princess Yara,” Elowen said warmly, her voice full of genuine relief. “It honors me to see you awake and improving. How are you feeling this morning, Princess?”

“Tired,” I admitted. “And… nauseous. It comes in waves.”

Elowen nodded. “May the Moon Goddess continue to bless your recovery.”

She began her examination with careful, practiced movements — checking my pulse, listening to my breathing, running gentle hands over my abdomen while a soft glow of healing magic emanated from her palms. The two trainees stood respectfully behind her, observing and occasionally handing her tools.

As her magic deepened, Elowen’s brow furrowed in concentration. Then her hands stilled completely. Her eyes widened, and a bright, joyful smile broke across her face.

“Princess…” she whispered, voice trembling with emotion. She immediately dropped to one knee again, lowering her head in deep reverence. Her trainees followed instantly, kneeling beside her.

“Congratulations, Your Highness!” Elowen exclaimed, her voice ringing with pure happiness. “You are with child.”

The two trainees echoed her with bright, excited voices: “Congratulations, Princess Yara!”

The words hung in the air like a death sentence and a miracle at the same time.

I stared at her, my heart slamming against my ribs. “What?”

“It's in the early stages,” she continued, her face breaking into a warm, congratulatory smile. “Perhaps five or six weeks. The royal bloodline is protecting the pup strongly, that is why you survived the poison. The child’s life force anchored you. Congratulations, Princess Yara. This is a blessing from the Moon Goddess herself—”

My heart slammed violently against my ribs. The room seemed to tilt. Pregnant? For Ian? How?.

Horror flooded me. My hands instinctively moved to my stomach, pressing down as if I could hide the truth from the world. Tears burned in my eyes — not from joy, but from a chaotic storm of rage, fear, and unwanted tenderness.

Elowen’s smile faltered as she noticed my reaction. She rose slowly, confusion replacing the joy on her face. “Princess…? Is something wrong? This is wonderful news. The King and Prince Ronan will be overjoyed. An heir to the royal line after so long—”

“Enough.” The word flew out of me sharper than I intended.

Elowen blinked, startled into silence.

I grabbed her wrist, my grip tighter than necessary. My voice came out low, urgent, and trembling. “You will tell no one. Not my father. Not Ronan. Absolutely no one about this. Swear it on your life and your family’s honor.”

She searched my face, confusion and concern flickering in her eyes. “But Princess… this is joyous news. The King will be overjoyed. An heir—”

“I said swear it.” My tone left no room for argument. Hatred for Ian burned hot in my chest, but beneath it was a fragile, unwanted tenderness for the tiny life growing inside me. “This stays between us until I decide otherwise. Do you understand?”

She searched my face for a long moment, her happiness fading into deep concern and confusion. Finally, she bowed her head. “As you command, Princess. I swear on my life and the Goddess that I will keep this secret. No one will hear it from me or my trainees.”

The two younger healers also bowed, murmuring their oaths.

I released a shaky breath. “Thank you. Now… leave me.”

They gathered their things quickly and exited the room, casting worried glances back at me.

The moment the door closed, I curled into myself, pressing both hands over my stomach. Tears slipped down my cheeks, hot and silent.

A child.

Ian’s child.

The realization hit me like a storm. I closed my eyes, and the memory came rushing back — sharp, vivid, and painfully intimate.

YaraThe heavy thud of boots echoed against the stone floor. Ronan instantly stood up, a rare, genuine smile breaking across his otherwise stern face."Ah, he's here," Ronan announced, stepping away from the table. He turned to my father and me, offering a brief, apologetic bow. "Forgive me, father. With the morning drills, I completely forgot to inform you that Alec would be joining us for breakfast today.""Alec?" I repeated, the name slipping from my lips before I could stop it.I looked toward the doorway, and my heart completely stopped. My breath trapped itself in my throat.Standing there, dressed in a sharp, dark military uniform that bore the crest of a powerful general, was the young man from the hospital. The stranger I had collided with. The one who had picked up my ultrasound from the floor."Yara, allow me to introduce my closest friend and one of our most powerful generals, Alec," Ronan said, completely oblivious to the sudden, icy dread paralyzing my limbs. "Alec

YaraThe impact knocked me backward. The printed ultrasound, the prescription, and my bag slipped from my grip, scattering across the polished linoleum floor."Oh, I'm so sorry!" a male voice apologized. My heart hammered against my ribs. I didn't look up at him. Desperate to hide my face, I dropped directly to my knees and began frantically sweeping the papers together with trembling hands. The young man crouched down beside me to help. His fingers closed around the glossy piece of photo paper that had slid the furthest away. He picked up the ultrasound image, his eyes dropping to the unmistakable shape printed on it.A warm, genuine smile broke across his face as he held it out to me. "Looks like you're expecting a baby. Congratulations."Panic flared into pure survival instinct. I snatched the image roughly out of his hand, jammed it into my cloak alongside the other papers, and scrambled to my feet. Leaving him confused on the floor behind me, I burst through the hospital do

YaraThe city hospital smelled of antiseptic and stale coffee. Fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting a harsh, sterile glow on the scuffed linoleum floors. I kept my hood low and scarf high as I approached the reception desk, my heart hammering against my ribs. No one here knew who I was, but I still needed to be careful. The receptionist, a tired-looking woman in her forties, barely glanced up from her computer. “Purpose of visit?”I swallowed, my throat dry. “Ultrasound test.”She typed something quickly, then handed me a clipboard with forms. “Fill these out. Take a seat over there. We’ll call you when it’s your turn.”I nodded, found a long row of metal chairs in the crowded waiting area, and sat down. The chair was hard and cold against my back. Around me, people coughed, flipped through old magazines, or stared blankly at their phones. The air tasted faintly of disinfectant and anxiety. I kept my head down, filling out the fake name and details with shaking hands.Ti

_Flashback_ The night before Ian left for the rogue campaignI sat on the edge of our bed, arms wrapped around my knees, watching Ian pack the last of his things. The fire crackled softly in the hearth, but it did nothing to warm the cold dread in my chest.“You’re really leaving tomorrow,” I whispered, voice thick.Ian turned from his bag and sighed, walking over to me. He knelt in front of me, large hands resting on my thighs.“I’ll be back soon, love,” he said gently, rubbing soothing circles on my skin. “It’s just a mission. A chance to prove myself to the Alpha King. I’ll return victorious.”I shook my head, tears already stinging my eyes. “You don’t understand. Every time you leave, I feel like part of me goes with you. What if something happens? What if—”“Hey, hey.” He cupped my face, thumbs brushing away the first falling tears. “Stop sulking like this. I’ll be fine. I always come back to you, don’t I?”I wasn’t having it. The tears came faster. “You say that every t

IanI woke up with a clear head and a strange sense of lightness in my chest. The pack felt calmer. More stable. As if a long-standing weakness had finally been cut away. I rose from the bed and dressed, leaving Mira to sleep a little longer. The pack house was already buzzing with activity when I stepped into the main hall. Warriors trained in the courtyard, omegas hurried about their duties, and the air carried the familiar scent of breakfast being prepared. This was how it should be.A commotion near the main gates caught my attention. One of my betas came rushing toward me, his face a mix of excitement and confusion.“Alpha! A royal delegation has arrived from the capital. They carry a golden scroll bearing the Alpha King’s seal.”My eyebrows rose. A golden scroll? That was rare. Only the most important matters warranted such formality. Perhaps my victory over the rogues had finally earned me the recognition I deserved.“Bring them in,” I ordered. The delegation consisted
