“I have to follow orders,” Aaron said as he tightened his grip on the sword handle and prepared to bring the blade down on Prisca’s exposed neck. Prisca used her hands to cover her face not wanting to see the sword coming down to end her life. Maya lay down on her chest on the bed in Kane’s room while the healer worked carefully on cleaning her wounded back with liquid herbs that stung and burned with each application. Her whimpers could be heard every time the healer’s cloth touched a particularly deep cut and the sound made everyone in the room tense.Kane stood near the window with his hand balled into a fist so tight that his knuckles had turned white.
