Chapter 2

Elena didn't wait for sunrise.

The second Maren's door shut behind her, she ran.

She headed west, straight for the border, tearing through the brush as fast as her legs could carry her.

Then a horn sounded behind her.

One long note.

Two short ones.

Border alert.

Kane had already sent his elite trackers.

Run.

Maren's warning echoed in Elena's head.

The second they know, sunrise will be the least of your worries.

Branches whipped across Elena's face as she pushed deeper into the woods. Her lungs burned, and every step sent another wave of pain through her injured wrist.

She kept going.

Three tiny heartbeats pulsed beneath her ribs.

Her children.

She couldn't stop.

Then she saw them.

The border stones stood ahead, pale in the moonlight.

Fifty yards.

Maybe less.

“Elena Voss! Stop!”

The voice came from somewhere behind her.

Not ordinary guards.

Kane's Enforcers.

An arrow cut through the darkness.

It struck the tree beside Elena's head with a hard thunk.

She didn't look back.

She threw herself forward, crossing the invisible boundary just as a massive wolf lunged after her.

Its jaws snapped shut inches from her heel.

Elena hit the ground on the other side and rolled, scraping her palms against the dirt.

She sucked in a breath.

She had made it.

Behind her, the wolves snarled and paced at the border, unable to follow.

Crossing into another territory without the Alpha's permission wasn't just trespassing. It could be treated as an act of war.

Elena managed a weak, bloody smile.

Then the ground shifted beneath her.

Her vision blurred.

The run. The wound on her wrist. The exhaustion she had been ignoring.

It all caught up with her at once.

Darkness closed in.

The last thing she felt was a pair of strong hands catching her before she hit the ground.

---

Elena bolted upright.

Her hand flew to her throat.

“Easy.”

The voice was low and calm.

“Don't pull your stitches.”

Elena froze.

She was inside a leather tent, wrapped in a warm fur blanket. Her burned wrist had been cleaned and covered with cool salve.

Near the entrance, a campfire crackled.

A broad-shouldered man sat beside it.

Silver touched his temples, and his sharp eyes watched her without giving much away.

A rogue.

“Where am I?”

Her voice came out rough.

She shifted into a defensive stance despite the ache running through her body.

“Rogue territory,” the man said. “You fainted the moment you cleared the Silvercrest line.”

Elena glanced toward the tent entrance.

“How long have I been out?”

“Not long.”

The man studied her for a moment.

“Though I have to admit, we don't usually find banished wolves screaming about triplets in their sleep.”

Elena went still.

Heat rushed to her face.

“I didn't—”

“You did.”

He said it so casually that Elena almost wanted to argue.

“You kept muttering about three Alpha-blooded heartbeats.”

Her hand moved toward the hunting knife lying on the nearby table.

Her fingers closed around the handle.

“Forget what you heard.”

She stood.

“I'm leaving.”

The rogue didn't stop her.

“You won't get far.”

Elena looked at him.

“Kane's patrols are stacked ten-deep along the perimeter.”

He reached beneath his heavy coat.

“Besides, you might want to see this first.”

He pulled out a worn leather strap.

A carved wooden pendant hung from it.

A howling wolf struck by lightning.

Elena stopped breathing for a second.

Her grip loosened around the knife.

She knew that crest.

She had seen it before.

Her father's.

He had hidden the pendant beneath his armor before the pack framed him and drove him out to die.

“Where did you get that?”

The words barely made it past her lips.

The rogue didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he stood.

Then he lowered himself onto one knee.

His head bowed.

Elena stared at him.

She knew that gesture.

It wasn't one given to an ordinary wolf.

It was reserved for royalty.

“Your father gave it to me the night he died,” the man said.

Elena couldn't move.

“He swore his daughter would return one day and claim what was stolen from him.”

The man's gaze lifted to hers.

His expression had changed.

There was no amusement in it now.

Only certainty.

“Welcome home, Commander Elena.”

He bowed his head again.

“We've been waiting five years for you to lead us.”

  • The Rejected Luna    What He Found

Chapter 12Kane stayed deep in the shadows, following his new bride with the quiet patience of a hunting wolf.Priscilla moved quickly for someone who believed she was alone. Instead of heading toward the main gates, she slipped through a narrow maintenance entrance used for kitchen deliveries and disappeared into the trees.Kane recognized the direction immediately. It was the same stretch of forest where Elena had been marched toward the border six months ago.A familiar ache pulled at his chest. He pushed it aside.Focus.He followed Priscilla for nearly a quarter mile, keeping downwind and far enough behind her that she wouldn't hear his footsteps.Eventually, she reached a small clearing washed in moonlight. She stopped and checked the pocket watch in her hand. She looked nervous.Kane crouched behind a fallen tree and waited.A few moments later, someone stepped out from the opposite side of the clearing. The stranger wore a dark cloak with the hood pulled low, hiding almost eve

  • The Rejected Luna    THE WEDDING THAT WASN'T

Chapter 11Kane stood at the altar and felt completely hollow. That was the part no one had warned him about. Not the council. Not his advisors. Certainly not the political duty that had brought him here. He'd expected grief. He'd expected the phantom ache in his chest where his mate-bond had once been to become unbearable on the worst possible day.Instead, there was only numbness. The main hall was packed. It was even fuller than it had been six months earlier during the rejection ceremony.Every allied pack had sent representatives. Every council elder sat in the front row, wearing expressions of approval.Six months ago, Kane had shattered one bond in front of all of them.Today, he was standing here to forge another. He hadn't slept the night before. He'd spent the dark hours staring at the ceiling, replaying the conversation he'd overheard in the west corridor months ago. He'll never know the difference.By the time anyone figures out what really happened, it won't matter anymor

  • The Rejected Luna    What We Build Now

Chapter 10One month after giving birth, Commander Nightfall called her first full war council. She still moved carefully, following Odessa's strict orders, but when Elena stood at the head of the map table, not one rogue leader in the tent questioned why she was there.“We can no longer afford to fight as scattered camps.”Her finger traced the pattern of destruction across the map.“Three points in Silvercrest. Two attacks on independent rogue settlements. Whoever is behind this is testing our defenses before committing to a full invasion.”She looked around the table.“If we remain divided, we'll be taken out one camp at a time.”“And if we unite?”Garrick's voice came from the shadows. There was a knowing look in his eyes, as if he already knew where she was going.“Then we stop being prey.”Elena's gaze moved across the dozen hardened rogue leaders surrounding the table.“I'm not asking you to abandon your camps or surrender your freedom. I'm proposing a unified defense pact. Sha

  • The Rejected Luna    THREE SILVER EYES

CHAPTER 9Labor lasted six excruciating hours.Elena remembered it in flashes: Sera's hand crushing hers, Odessa's steady commands, and Garrick pacing outside the canvas tent like a caged wolf.Through the pain, something strange moved beneath Elena's skin.A faint, ethereal current.Three distinct presences seemed to draw closer with every passing moment. Her Nightfall blood allowed her to feel them in a way she couldn't explain. Her children were coming.“Push, Elena!” Odessa barked. “The first one is here!”A sharp cry shattered the tent.Elena barely had time to catch her breath before Odessa placed a warm, squirming bundle against her chest.A boy.His tiny face was red with outrage, and his furious cry filled the tent.“One!” Odessa announced.Elena stared at him through exhausted eyes.“My baby…”“The second is right behind him,” Odessa said.Minutes later, another cry joined the first.A second boy.But unlike his brother, he quieted almost immediately. His tiny eyes opened, b

  • The Rejected Luna    FIVE MONTHS

CHAPTER 8Elena stopped hiding the swell of her stomach the day she finally learned to control her Nightfall power.Five months had passed since the attack on Silvercrest.Fear had spread through the rogue territory during that time. Unidentified warbands were raiding nearby borders with military precision, and Garrick’s camp was preparing for a war no one had officially declared.Elena threw herself into the middle of it.She didn't just sit in on war councils anymore. She ran them. She began spotting patterns in supply routes that veteran scouts had missed, restructuring perimeter defenses, and learning how to use the strange power in her blood without letting it control her.By then, she could sense every mate-bond in the camp without accidentally snapping a single one.The rogues no longer looked at her like a helpless woman who had been driven from her pack. They looked to her when decisions had to be made.“You have your father’s tactical mind,” Sera said one evening as she watc

  • The Rejected Luna    THE FIRST ATTACK

CHAPTER 7The war horn shattered the silence before the first scream even reached the pack house.Kane was out of bed and half-shifted before his mind fully registered the sound.By the time he burst into the courtyard, Silvercrest was in chaos.Wolves scrambled in every direction. Smoke rose beyond the walls, and the night sky glowed orange at three separate points along the border.“Report!” Kane roared at the nearest guard.“Three points simultaneously, Alpha!” the guard gasped, still trying to catch his breath. “The east ridge, the southern gate, and the old mill crossing. They hit the patrol gap during the shift change.”His expression tightened.“It’s an inside job.”Kane stared toward the burning border.Shift changes.Patrol gaps. The memory of Priscilla's whispered conversation came back to him.She hadn't just framed Elena. She'd been working toward something bigger.“Rally the main force at the southern gate!” Kane ordered. “Hold the line!”His eyes burned crimson as the wo
