Chapter 3

“Get up, Garrick. You're terrifying the girl.”

A woman ducked into the tent.

She was scarred across one side of her face, with the hard, watchful look of someone who had spent years surviving fights rather than avoiding them.

Her gaze moved over Elena from head to toe.

“I'm Sera. Second in Command.”

She glanced at Garrick, still on one knee.

“Enough with the kneeling. She doesn't even know who she is yet.”

Garrick rose and tucked the wooden crest back beneath his jacket.

“She knows what Silvercrest told her,” he said. “Which means she knows nothing.”

Elena pulled the fur blanket tighter around herself.

Her eyes narrowed.

“I know my father was exiled for treason and died alone past the ridge.”

Her voice hardened.

“That is what I was told.”

Sera's expression didn't change.

“That's the lie Kane's pack fed you.”

Elena stared at her.

“Aldric Voss wasn't a traitor. He was Silvercrest's top commander.”

Garrick remained silent, watching Elena carefully.

Sera continued.

“Then he started investigating the former Alpha's murder.”

Elena frowned.

“Kane's father?”

“Yes.”

Elena shook her head.

“Kane said his father died in a rogue raid.”

“It wasn't a rogue raid.”

Garrick's voice is quieter now.

“It was an inside assassination.”

Elena looked at him.

“Your father found the trail,” he continued. “He got too close to whoever was responsible. Before he could expose the truth, someone planted forged evidence, blamed him for treason, and had him banished overnight.”

Elena's stomach twisted.

“He was set up.”

“Yes.”

The word came from Sera.

“And whoever did it is still sitting high in Silvercrest.”

Elena stared at the floor.

For years, she'd believed her father had betrayed his pack.

She had accepted the story because there had been nothing else to believe.

Now she wasn't sure what part of her childhood had been true.

Sera folded her arms.

“Which brings us to you.”

Elena looked up.

“And those three heartbeats you're carrying.”

Her hand immediately covered her abdomen.

“What does my pregnancy have to do with my father being framed?”

Garrick exchanged a glance with Sera.

Then he looked back at Elena.

“Because your father wasn't just a soldier.”

There was something different in his voice now.

Respect.

Almost reverence.

“He was the last surviving male of the Nightfall Line.”

Elena frowned.

“Nightfall?”

“An ancient, forbidden bloodline,” Sera said.

She pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat.

“The high Alphas feared them enough to try to wipe them out a century ago.”

Elena listened without speaking.

“What made them so dangerous?”

Sera held her gaze.

“Nightfall wolves can sense pack bonds.”

Elena's fingers tightened around the blanket.

“They can sever them, too.”

A pause.

“And if pushed far enough, they can steal them.”

Elena's breath caught.

The bond.

The thing that connected mates and packs.

The very thing Kane had just broken between them.

Was that what her blood could do?

Garrick stepped closer.

“They thought the Nightfall bloodline died with your father.”

His eyes dropped briefly to Elena's abdomen.

“They were wrong.”

Elena's hand remained over her stomach.

“If Kane or the council discovers what you are—and learns that you're carrying three Alpha-blooded heirs—they won't simply send you into exile.”

“What will they do?”

Sera answered this time.

“They'll come for you.”

Elena's jaw tightened.

“How many?”

“Enough.”

Sera's voice was matter-of-fact.

“Silvercrest won't risk letting Nightfall blood survive, especially not in three Alpha-blooded children.”

Elena sat quietly for a moment.

She had spent the last few hours thinking she was simply the woman Kane had thrown away.

Now she was being told that her blood alone could threaten the people who ruled Silvercrest.

She looked down at her burned wrist.

Then at the blanket covering her stomach.

“So what do we do?”

Her voice was steadier now.

“Hide in the woods forever?”

“No.”

Sera leaned back.

“We train you.”

Elena looked at her.

“We teach you how to control the Nightfall power your father kept hidden from you. We build an army.”

Her expression hardened.

“And when the time is right, we take back what was stolen from your family.”

Elena stared at the bare skin where her Silvercrest mark had been.

Then she felt the three small, stubborn pulses inside her.

She had spent years believing she was weak because Kane's pack told her she was.

Maybe they had been afraid of something else.

Elena raised her eyes.

“I don't want to hide.”

Something shifted in her gaze.

“Teach me how to make them bleed.”

Sera's mouth curved into a smile.

“Now that sounds like Aldric's daughter.”

She stood.

“Get some rest, Commander.”

Sera turned toward the tent entrance.

“Tomorrow, your real training begins.”

Chapter 13The attack came at dawn, exactly as Elena had predicted. For months, she had worked to build a unified defense network, connecting eight independent rogue camps through rapid signal runners and shared watchtowers. When the war horn sounded across the ridge, the alert reached the surrounding camps in less than twenty minutes.Elena was already armed. She stood at the front of the eastern defense line, watching the first wave of raiders move through the valley."Hold positions!" she called. "Funnel them toward the eastern choke point!"The coalition moved. The raiders had divided their forces into three groups, expecting to overwhelm the camp from different directions. Instead, Elena's fighters forced the first group toward the choke point while the other two were cut off from their retreat.Sera's voice rang out somewhere behind her, calling for reinforcements.Elena moved with the fighters, giving quick orders whenever the battle shifted. Her Nightfall power sharpened her s

Chapter 12Kane stayed deep in the shadows, following his new bride with the quiet patience of a hunting wolf.Priscilla moved quickly for someone who believed she was alone. Instead of heading toward the main gates, she slipped through a narrow maintenance entrance used for kitchen deliveries and disappeared into the trees.Kane recognized the direction immediately. It was the same stretch of forest where Elena had been marched toward the border six months ago.A familiar ache pulled at his chest. He pushed it aside.Focus.He followed Priscilla for nearly a quarter mile, keeping downwind and far enough behind her that she wouldn't hear his footsteps.Eventually, she reached a small clearing washed in moonlight. She stopped and checked the pocket watch in her hand. She looked nervous.Kane crouched behind a fallen tree and waited.A few moments later, someone stepped out from the opposite side of the clearing. The stranger wore a dark cloak with the hood pulled low, hiding almost eve

  • The Rejected Luna    THE WEDDING THAT WASN'T

Chapter 11Kane stood at the altar and felt completely hollow. That was the part no one had warned him about. Not the council. Not his advisors. Certainly not the political duty that had brought him here. He'd expected grief. He'd expected the phantom ache in his chest where his mate-bond had once been to become unbearable on the worst possible day.Instead, there was only numbness. The main hall was packed. It was even fuller than it had been six months earlier during the rejection ceremony.Every allied pack had sent representatives. Every council elder sat in the front row, wearing expressions of approval.Six months ago, Kane had shattered one bond in front of all of them.Today, he was standing here to forge another. He hadn't slept the night before. He'd spent the dark hours staring at the ceiling, replaying the conversation he'd overheard in the west corridor months ago. He'll never know the difference.By the time anyone figures out what really happened, it won't matter anymor

  • The Rejected Luna    What We Build Now

Chapter 10One month after giving birth, Commander Nightfall called her first full war council. She still moved carefully, following Odessa's strict orders, but when Elena stood at the head of the map table, not one rogue leader in the tent questioned why she was there.“We can no longer afford to fight as scattered camps.”Her finger traced the pattern of destruction across the map.“Three points in Silvercrest. Two attacks on independent rogue settlements. Whoever is behind this is testing our defenses before committing to a full invasion.”She looked around the table.“If we remain divided, we'll be taken out one camp at a time.”“And if we unite?”Garrick's voice came from the shadows. There was a knowing look in his eyes, as if he already knew where she was going.“Then we stop being prey.”Elena's gaze moved across the dozen hardened rogue leaders surrounding the table.“I'm not asking you to abandon your camps or surrender your freedom. I'm proposing a unified defense pact. Sha

  • The Rejected Luna    THREE SILVER EYES

CHAPTER 9Labor lasted six excruciating hours.Elena remembered it in flashes: Sera's hand crushing hers, Odessa's steady commands, and Garrick pacing outside the canvas tent like a caged wolf.Through the pain, something strange moved beneath Elena's skin.A faint, ethereal current.Three distinct presences seemed to draw closer with every passing moment. Her Nightfall blood allowed her to feel them in a way she couldn't explain. Her children were coming.“Push, Elena!” Odessa barked. “The first one is here!”A sharp cry shattered the tent.Elena barely had time to catch her breath before Odessa placed a warm, squirming bundle against her chest.A boy.His tiny face was red with outrage, and his furious cry filled the tent.“One!” Odessa announced.Elena stared at him through exhausted eyes.“My baby…”“The second is right behind him,” Odessa said.Minutes later, another cry joined the first.A second boy.But unlike his brother, he quieted almost immediately. His tiny eyes opened, b

  • The Rejected Luna    FIVE MONTHS

CHAPTER 8Elena stopped hiding the swell of her stomach the day she finally learned to control her Nightfall power.Five months had passed since the attack on Silvercrest.Fear had spread through the rogue territory during that time. Unidentified warbands were raiding nearby borders with military precision, and Garrick’s camp was preparing for a war no one had officially declared.Elena threw herself into the middle of it.She didn't just sit in on war councils anymore. She ran them. She began spotting patterns in supply routes that veteran scouts had missed, restructuring perimeter defenses, and learning how to use the strange power in her blood without letting it control her.By then, she could sense every mate-bond in the camp without accidentally snapping a single one.The rogues no longer looked at her like a helpless woman who had been driven from her pack. They looked to her when decisions had to be made.“You have your father’s tactical mind,” Sera said one evening as she watc
