4. Meeting my Mate

My men charge the rogues, shifting into our Lycans. Our speed is next to none. My Lycan Amarok inhales the scent of fresh blood being spilled. He is thirsty for it as we run towards the men shifting into their wolves. We run as my claws extend, slicing through them one after the other. Their bodies split into two pieces as I moved, hearing the lumps of meat hitting the ground. My senses are on high alert. I can see clearly through the darkness as more men file out of the tents in the back. I don’t have to turn around because I can feel Addam at my side. We push to catch the guys running out back.

    ‘Togo, Lyan gets to the tent and check on the women.’ I sent two of my female warriors.

    ‘Copy that.’ They reply in unison.

    I make it towards the back tent and I get a sensation that shoots through me. I come to a complete stop as my Lycan sniffs the air.

    “Alpha?” Addam speaks.

    ‘Don’t kill the leader, injure him,’ I told him as I made my way into the tent. The fire is raging as if he started it and ran. I walk around looking from side to side, then I see her. Amarok begins to move, then our eyes land on her. A female in chains attached to a wooden beam. The flames increase as I move closer seeing her coughing. Then I hear it. ‘MATE.’

    Her eyes meet mine and I move closer. The smoke begins to billow around us. I try and reach for her but she moves back in fear. I shift to my human form and hold my hands out.

     “We need to get out of here,” I tell her as I break the chains from around the wooden pole. I took a blanket to cover her. There are bruises on her skin and her clothing ripped. I lower the blanket to her slowly as she still moves in fear. I get her to stand up, and I lift her body, holding her close to me. She passes out nestled against my chest. Exiting the tent, the fighting is over and the guy in charge is caught and alive.

On our drive back I still held her against my chest. My Lycan soothes her with his energy. He is boiling just like I was thinking of what happened to her. Addam sits next to me in the back seat. We have two vans full of women and only two rogues, including the leader, are cuffed in a separate van.

    ‘Is she…’ Addam mind links me.

    ‘Yes.’ Is all I can get out. I have been fighting to keep Amarok calm this entire time. The only thing that helps is that he is smitten with our mate.

    ‘She smells human.’ Addam states.

    ‘I don’t care. She is my mate.’

    ‘I will protect her as the future queen she is,’ he replies. The rest of the way we drive in silence. I rest my chin on top of my mate’s head. She is beautiful even in this state. Brown curls that probably tumble down her back on a regular day. Brown eyes I recall seeing that flickered brightly before she passed out. Right now, there are soot smudges on her face. We pull up onto the castle grounds and head directly to the royal pack hospital. The convoy takes the women to the hospital. The two rogues are taken to the cells. We only have a few men and women who have superficial injuries and they have basically healed.

     As we pulled into the hospital, Addam had already called ahead for us. There is a team of doctors and nurses waiting for us and the van is full of women. As the door to the car opens, a gurney is brought over. I see my parents exiting the hospital doors. I shift us outward and moved towards the bed to place her, but I couldn’t let her go. Amarok growls as the staff freezes. My father moves forward to calm me.

    “Let them help her son,” he tells me. I watch as my mother looks on with concern.

    “Come quickly,” Mother directs as I walk inside, holding her still against my chest.

The doctors try and touch her as I growl. My parents are by my side. I hear them direct women only in the room. Then my mother touches my arm.

    “Son, place her down so we can get her better.” She tells me as I follow her instructions.

    “Prince Gideon, we will get the best care for her. You have to stay here,” Doctor Eva tells me. I nod watching them rush her down the hall. It seemed like hours, but the clock swore that it was only half an hour. I pace back and forth as my father speaks.

    “Son, we can hold the men, or I can go question them.”

    “No, I want to be the one to kill him,” I say between gritted teeth.

    “I will go make sure they are well taken care of my alpha. I will question them but not touch them,” Addam tells me as I nod. There is no way I can leave my mate’s side. I need to be the first person she sees when she wakes up.

    “Thank you. Get all the information on any other groups and kill the lower rogue. Save the boss for me,” I told Addam, giving him a nod. He is a great friend that I trust without a doubt. He nods and leaves. My parents remain with me as I feel my Lycan stir.

    “What is it, son?” my mother asks.

    “My Lycan told me she was waking up,” I told them as I began down the hall to find her.
