Reed

Fresh tears spilled from my eyes before I could even blink them back. They stung, hot and relentless, as they tracked down my cheeks and soaked the collar of my shirt. My breath hitched violently, uneven, like my lungs didn’t know how to work anymore.

The paper in my hands trembled, the bold black print taunting me like it was laughing in my face. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the bottom of the page, from the name written in that familiar sharp, precise scrawl.

Rayne Hunter.

His signature. Final. Unflinching.

Signed in that effortlessly elegant handwriting I’d memorized over the years—every curve, every stroke. And now it sat there like a coffin lid.

A signature that used to adorn birthday cards, love notes, secret anniversary letters—now signed beneath the death sentence of our marriage.

It was a punch to the gut. A nail through my spine. I stared at it like it might dissolve if I just blinked enough, cried enough, begged hard enough. But it didn’t.

It stayed.

Permanent.

Amber The fact that that bond still existed made me angry—but more than anything, it made me sad.Sad that something so sacred could be so wrong.Sad that even now, Rayne still held a piece of me I would give anything to rip away. And scared—deeply, heartbreakingly scared—that no matter how much I loved Ian, no matter how much he loved me, we were setting ourselves up to fail.Because I could never truly be with him in all the ways that mattered, I couldn't give him all of me. My own body wouldn't let me.Tears pricked my eyes, but I blinked them away. Not now.Not when I’d finally found something real. Something worth fighting for.I didn’t know how we’d break the bond, or when, or what it would cost—but I would find a way.Because Ian Harrow wasn’t just the man I loved. He was the man I chose.I just want to be his and only his…Before I could spiral deeper into that pit, a soft knock came at the door.Gentle. Careful. My heart gave a hopeful lurch.“Come in,” I called, surprised a

AmberMy heels were laying haphazardly in one corner of the room, like they’d been kicked off in a hurry—or frustration. My phone sat lifeless on the nightstand, screen black, battery dead. I didn’t need to power it on to know I’d missed a hundred texts. My head throbbed like it was filled with cotton and broken glass, and my mouth was dry as sandpaper. The door creaked open slowly. And there he was.Ian stepped in with the kind of careful silence that made my chest tighten. He was holding a glass of water in one hand and two white pills in the other. His hair was disheveled, falling into his eyes in soft waves. There were shadows beneath them, faint bruises that looked like they’d been earned by worry, not sleep.“Morning,” he said gently, his voice low like he was afraid he might startle me.I bolted upright and immediately winced. Pain stabbed behind my eyes. I yanked the sheets up to my chin with trembling hands, realizing suddenly how bare my body felt under them. “Why am I here?

Amber The bartender came back a few minutes later with another round. He grinned and said, “Try this one. Sex on the Beach. House specialty.”I hesitated. “Is it alcoholic?”“It tastes like a beach vacation,” he said, winking. It did taste like vacation. I couldn’t taste the alcohol at all.One glass down. Then another half. And then the room started spinning.I was seeing double. Laughing for no reason. Every time Ian said something, I giggled like a maniac and covered my mouth. I vaguely remembered Ian turning to the bartender and snapping, “She said no alcohol!” and then yanking the glass out of my hand.“Alright, lightweight,” he said, standing and offering me his hand, “time to go home.”“But we didn’t dance yet,” I whined, wobbling as I tried to sway to the beat. “Come onnnn, Ian, it’s a club. Let’s dance!”“You’re drunk,” he said firmly. “We’ll dance when we get home.”“I have to peeeee,” I slurred. He sighed, defeated. “Alright. Let’s get you to the restroom.”He helped me ac

AmberIt had been three days since the final verdict was announced, and I was awarded primary custody of Evalie.Three whole days. And I hadn’t heard a single word from Rayne. Not a message. Not a call. Not even a glimpse of him. He’d walked out of that courtroom like a man who’d just watched his entire world burn to ash, and maybe he had. I didn’t know if his silence was a good thing or not. It should’ve felt like a relief—after everything he’d put me through—but somehow, it didn’t. I wasn’t sure what I felt. Guilt? Maybe. Pity? Possibly. But mostly… I just didn’t want to think about him.Too many other things had happened since then.Ina had pulled me into a long, tight hug right outside the courtroom, eyes misty with pride. “You did it,” she whispered in my ear, clutching my hand as if I might float away. “You fought and you won.”And then Ken had swept us all—me, Ichika, Evalie, and Ian—into his car and drove us to this upscale restaurant downtown to celebrate. The place looked to

ReedI didn’t think.I just moved. The moment he said it—you’re dead to me—something broke open inside me. Something ugly. Something sharp.I scrambled to my feet, wild with grief, dizzy with rage and disbelief. My hand shot toward the desk at the center of the room, my fingers curling around the nearest thing they could find—A vase.Ceramic. Heavy.I didn’t even register the pain as I slammed it against the edge of the desk, shattering it into jagged pieces that scattered like shrapnel. My hands shook as I grabbed the largest shard. The edge sliced my palm open, but I didn’t care. Blood ran down my wrist and dripped to the floor, fat and hot and red.I held the shard to my throat. The room swam.Tears blurred everything. My body was already wrecked—bandaged ribs, bruises, the ghost of Eden’s fists still fresh in my muscles—but none of that compared to the gaping hole in my chest now.Rayne stood frozen a few feet away, staring at me. I didn’t know if it was horror or disgust in his e
