The Midnight Escape

last update Last Updated: 2025-05-31 17:35:43

Becca crept quietly up the stairs to Mira's room, her mind racing as she thought over what had just happened in the garden.

Eugene was downstairs in a chamber left for her to use however, weakened and poisoned, and she had to act quickly if she was to save him.

He could still die if she didn't properly treat him.

The stakes were higher than ever, and Becca knew there was no turning back now.

She had to save Eugene, but she also couldn't forget the people she was meant to help.

The lives of everyone in the Vargus pack were on the line, and she felt the weight of the responsibility settling heavily on her shoulders.

When she reached Mira’s room, Becca gently pushed the door open, careful not to make a sound.

She found Mira sitting on the edge of the bed, her eyes wide and alert despite the late hour.

The dim light from a lantern flickered softly in the corner of the room, casting shadows on the walls.

“Mira,” Becca whispered, her voice hushed as she stepped inside.

Mira looked up,

Mira’s eyes were wide with urgency, her chest heaving from the speed of her steps. She barely gave Becca time to speak before gripping her wrist tightly.“Becca,” she whispered, her voice barely louder than a breath. “You won’t believe it. I was cleaning the room like you asked, just keeping things tidy around Eugene, and then… he opened his eyes. Just for a second. He looked right at me. And then, just like that, he was gone again.”Becca froze mid-step. Her heart skipped, then pounded with sudden force. “He opened his eyes?” she asked, incredulous. “Are you sure, Mira? You’re absolutely sure?”Mira nodded, her hair tumbling loose from its braid as she shook her head quickly. “I swear it, Becca. I didn’t imagine it. He looked… confused, like he didn’t know where he was. But there was life in his eyes. Just for a moment.”Without another word, Becca rushed across the room. She bent low over Eugene’s still form, her hands trembling as she pressed the back of her fingers to his foreh

  • The Rejected Omega's Redemption    Shadows of the Past and Echoes of the Future

The infirmary was unusually quiet this morning.Becca moved from one cot to another, her fingers gentle as they pressed a damp cloth over the fevered forehead of a young boy no older than seven. The air in the room was thick with the scent of herbs and disinfectant, the low groans of the sick a constant reminder of her environment.Outside, the early sun struggled to push through the gloom that seemed to have settled over the Vargus pack like a dark shroud since the plague began. She adjusted the bandages on the mother’s arm, careful not to wake her. The woman’s cheeks were sunken from days of exhaustion and vomiting, her breath shallow. Her child stirred in his sleep beside her, his tiny hand twitching as if reaching for something in a dream.Becca let out a sigh, her shoulders heavy with more than fatigue. She hadn’t slept properly in three days. Her mind wasn’t only on the plague. It was on him.Eugene.The thought of him lying still and unconscious in her room, hidden beneath

The long, echoing hallways of the Blackwood Pack mansion shimmered faintly with the glow of morning light filtering through the tall arched windows. The once-chaotic rhythm of the estate had slowed, subdued into an eerie calm. Luna Seraphina walked gracefully, her heels clicking against the polished marble floor. Her posture was upright, commanding, and she wore an elegant midnight-blue velvet robe that dragged slightly behind her, the hem kissing the floor with each step.Ava walked a step behind, hands neatly clasped in front of her. The younger woman, ever faithful and eager to please, wore a softer expression, occasionally glancing at the Luna with admiration.Servants bowed and greeted the Luna as they passed. “Good morning, Luna Seraphina,” they said, their heads lowered, their eyes avoiding direct contact. Seraphina offered them a nod, but her lips curled upward into a satisfied smile. The corridors—once tainted by whispers, scandal, and Becca's constant interference—wer

  • The Rejected Omega's Redemption    Caught in the Garden

The garden shimmered under the silver hue of the moonlight, casting long shadows across the cobblestone path. Becca knelt beside Eugene's unconscious form, panic tightening in her chest as she touched his forehead—clammy and warm. His breaths were shallow and erratic which only meant that his life was in danger and she needed to do something as soon as possible to stop it.“This is bad,” she whispered, her hands shaking as she examined the slight green hue crawling up his neck. “The poison is moving fast.”She glanced toward the main mansion. She couldn’t carry him on her own. He was too heavy, too broad—and if anyone saw him, they would alert the entire Vargus pack. He would be killed before he could open his eyes. This was beginning to turn into something that she hadn't planned for.She had to move. Fast. For now, she needed to hide him so as to prevent anyone from seeing him and causing her plan to shatter before it even began.Becca gritted her teeth and, with a grunt, tried t

  • The Rejected Omega's Redemption    Whispers in the Garden

The moon sat high and heavy in the dark sky, its silver light filling the Vargus pack like an ancient, watchful eye. The sharp chill of night crept into the bones of the stone buildings, but the inside of the fortress pulsed with the warmth of fire and the dim golden flicker of lanterns. The day had been long and taxing and Becca had been si busy she barely had time to rest.Patients had come into the infirmary in waves, their symptoms varying but all urgent. Becca had hardly had time to breathe and it was beginning to take its toll on her body. Now, the clatter of shoes echoed in the hallways as Becca and Mira made their way toward their chamber. Two Vargus guard wolves walked closely behind, their stoic expressions giving away nothing.Mira, ever talkative and constantly working her thoughts out loud, broke the silence."So tomorrow, I was thinking we start with the older ones," she said, her voice low, but brisk. "Especially the boy who’s showing signs of fever again. He’s not
