Megan was taking a walk in the garden when she sighted rustling in a bush.
“Maybe it’s my cub.” She thought to herself.“Brianna, Rosetta, you both can stay here.” She said and lifted up her thick skirt. She jogged over to the bush and squatted down. She peered open the branches with her hands and she saw the little cub.“Hi, you.” She moved to grab him when she noticed something like a scroll attached to a collar she hadn’t seen before.Did the cub have an owner all this while? She removed the scroll and opened it to reveal a small note.“Your kingdom is indeed beautiful ” The note read. Megan got up and scanned the area. She didn’t know who the note could’ve been from but the thought of it made her giddy inside.Someone wrote her a secret note and she wanted to meet this stranger but she didn’t know how.“Thank you. Does he have a name? If you’re a guest in the castle, you could join me for tea this afternoon.”Perhaps if she had tea this noon the stranger would come around. It had been a while since she had such excitement in the castle. She used to come up with an excuse to go visit Aspen at other packs whenever she got bored but she couldn’t do that anymore. She approached her ladies and said, “think we can squeeze in tea at the greenhouse this noon?”The two ladies looked at eachother, confused. Megan knew she needed not ask for her wish to be granted but they played along.“Of course, Luna.” Rosetta said. The three ladies entered into the castle and Megan changed into more comfortable attire to begin her daily duties. At Rhode’s quarters, Rhode had just returned from his little mission in the garden.Brian said, “I’m finding it hard to believe you can be a model emperor, Rhode Wales, much less a king”“Why’s that?” He transformed immediately, naked. He always lost his clothes whenever he was in cub form.Brian ignored his question.“But I’m more concerned that you would get used to transforming into a cub and forget how to be a normal sized wolf.”Rhode chuckled.“We hardly need to transform to our wolf form Brian, the world is evolving. We’re becoming more civilized so to say.” He retorted back.Brian sighed, “how was your mission? Though I’m not sure what you hope to accomplish with that vague note.”“She mentioned tea. We can join her.” Rhode said.“But she won’t know that you’re the one that sent the note.”“She doesn’t need to, we just need to keep me in her mind and in her line of vision.” Rhode started.“Have her thinking why I was there, why I always show up to places only she knew about.”“I understand Rhode but we have just a month. Your plan is a little slow don’t you think?”Brian was right. His plan needed time to execute but he also knew Megan. Despite all Richardson was putting her through she never once said she hated him.Him coming upfront will most likely scare Megan away, something he couldn’t afford.“Let’s hope it pans out.” Brian said.Noon came around and Megan was at the green house sipping her tea.“What am I doing?” She asked herself. She was having tea because some secret person asked her for tea.“This whole drama has made me bonkers.” She said to herself.Brianna and Rosetta weren’t sure what was happening, they looked at each other and then at Megan. At that moment, Brianna sighted Rhode and Brian.“Oh, your highness! It’s the visitors from the West.” She said. Both men approached the greenhouse and bowed.“My queen.” Rhode said“Oh, fair afternoon.” Megan said, “have time to join me for tea gentlemen?” She offered. She didn’t want it to look like she lacked manners or worse, was a loner drinking tea alone.“Thank you Luna but I have matters in town.” Brian said.“And you, Emperor Rhode?” She asked.Rhode gave a small smile, “I’d be delighted.”Brian left the greenhouse and Rhode took a seat opposite Megan.“I know it’s only your first day but how do you like your visit thus far?” Megan asked, trying to spark conversation.“Wonderful. Your kingdom is very rich.”“We’re not quite a kingdom yet, but thank you. Your words are kind.” Megan blushed.Rhode had been looking at her since he took a seat. She wasn’t comfortable being stared at like that so she avoided eye contact.“And you, Luna. How are you doing?” Megan was taken aback. No one ever asked her how she was doing. If they did, it was pertaining to her duties as Luna and queen but with the way Rhode asked it seemed like he cared about her wellbeing.“I am well, and you? It must’ve been quite the journey for you.”“It was well worth it. I am well also.” Rhode said. The couple spent the rest of the hour talking about possible relations and collaborations both clans could have in the foreseeable future.“This was lovely, Luna. I wouldn’t be opposed to doing this again.”“Likewise, thank you for keeping me company.”“Always a pleasure, my queen.” Rhode got up and took Megan’s hand. He kissed it lightly, taking note of her floral scent. Roses and honey , she smelt like roses and honey.“Sweet.” He thought to himself.Rhode walked out of the greenhouse and Megan watched his back as he retreated.“Your highness, you’re red.” Rosetta said.“More like pink.” Brianna said.Megan slapped her cheeks. What was wrong with her?! Why did mere interactions with Rhode have such electrifying effects on her?“Let us go.” She said, as they left the greenhouse she thought about how she didn’t see the person who sent her the note.Or could it be Rhode Wales? She shook off the thought. There was no way the emperor of the West and the alpha of the Wales clan wrote her a shady note.“I’ve discussed with the priest, he will see us tomorrow in a private meeting.” Richardson said.It was really happening. Richardson was divorcing her.Ten years ago“Do you think you would ever divorce me?” Megan asked. They were returning from their law class.“You always ask such ridiculous questions Megan.” Young Richardson said.“I’m just curious. It is allowed so, I was just wondering.”“You’re my mate.” He said plainly, looking her dead in the eyes.“I love you, Megan.” He added. Megan turned red.It was the first time he ever said that he loved her.Richardson laughed at her reaction.“I do love you, Megan. I can’t imagine a life without you so no, divorcing you will hurt me more than it will hurt you.” He said.Present“Okay.” Megan said numb.“Megan…” Richardson said. “You do understand right?”“Goodnight, your majesty.” She wasn’t going to show him any emotion. He didn’t deserve that.Megan left his office and headed for her quarters, it was already past the usual time she
Word traveled fast in the Jared mansion. The news was that Megan had slapped Richardson’s concubine who everyone now knew was Megan’s friend. The general perception was pity for the queen and disdain for the alpha. However a few people thought Megan was rude and ungrateful towards Aspen and Richardson.Megan however, was more worried about how the visitors from the west would take the rumor.“It’s the word around the castle.” One of Rhode’s aides said to Brian who reported directly to Rhode.“It seems that Luna is losing face amongst her own subjects. I almost feel sorry for her.” Brian said.Rhode felt indignant about the whole situation but there was nothing he could do to help Megan here. He felt all the more motivated to convince her to remarry him.His agenda for the day was simple, discuss with her about future collaborations between their clans. She needed her to see him as someone she could trust.Megan got out of bed and got ready for the day. She was wearing a lilac colored
The next morning, Rosetta and Brianna were drawing Megan’s bath when they heard a ruckus outside.“Is that Aspen, what is she doing in your quarters?”Brianna and Rosetta rushed out of the room.Aspen successfully swiped some gold jars from the hallway where Megan’s room was at.When the cleaners reported it missing, Aspen suggested that they searched everyone present. What Rosetta didn’t know was that Aspen had sent one of her maids to plant a piece of gold on Rosetta.During the search, one of the people searching found the gold on Rosetta.“That can’t be right! I’ve never touched anything in this hallway! I pass through it countless times a day.”“Yes! This is a mistake!” Brianna seconded.Everyone present was starting to murmur. Megan came out of her room, hearing the chaos.“What is the matter?” Everyone bowed. Aspen hated it.“Luna, some mini gold jars and trinkets are missing from the hall. Ms. Aspen suggested we do a search down of everyone who frequents the hallway and we fou
Megan left the garden, her mood now sour. The next morning, Rosetta was fixing pins in Megan’s hair when Richardson barged in.“What has gotten into you?!” He yelled.“Rosetta, please excuse us.”As soon as she left the room, “I don’t follow.” Megan said, looking at her reflection in the mirror.“What has gotten into you Megan?! Why are you so bitter towards Aspen?! You’ve changed!”Megan chuckled.“Changed, your majesty?”“Yes! I thought maybe last night would soften your mind but it seems it’s made up!”“I thought you would remain friends with Aspen!”“So you had sex with me because of Aspen.” Megan felt insulted.“Is it wrong? You have clearly been jealous.”“Why bother? What’s the point if I cannot get pregnant? You could have just kept ignoring my needs. I’ve been just fine.”“I see that now. I certainly regret it.” He spat and left the room.A tear slid down Megan’s face. That was probably the meanest thing he ever said to her. She hoped no one was eavesdropping.“Oh, your highn
Aspen’s parents came to the mansion to see Aspen and Richardson. It was the first time Richardson was ever seeing Aspen’s parents with her.For him, it was awkward. Seeing guests with a woman that wasn’t Megan.Aspen would be his wife soon anyway.“Your majesty.” The baron and the baroness bowed before Richardson.“Please, rise.” Richardson said.Aspen was sitting beside her parents. As she was not yet his wife, she couldn’t sit next to him per their custom.“Thank you for having us, alpha. Your castle is as breathtaking as always.” Baroness Bridget said.“Thank you, Baroness.”The air was awkward, Richardson didn’t want to have to see them but he thought it rude not to see his future in laws.Aspen had pleaded with him to see her parents. She wanted her parents to see the kind of life she was living. In the castle.“We just wanted to see the father of our grandchild.”Richardson gave an awkward smile.“It’s good to meet you both, your daughter is a good woman.”“Thank you, your majes
Jason took her to a part of the city that was busier than the central area where the institute was. There was a lot of music and dancing, very different from where she was from.“Stay close to me.” She heard Jason say through the noise. On reflex, she held his arm which made him laugh.“Stop laughing at me.” She said.“Sorry.”“You happened to come on one of our festival days. I promise it’s not this busy all the time.”“Okay!”Jason led her to what looked like the residential area.He led her to an igloo looking hut and they both entered.“We don’t have any hotels around here, as we never get tourists.” He said as they entered the hut.It was dimly lit and very cozy looking.“I’m not a tourist. I’m here on an official assignment.” Aspen retorted back.“I apologize. It just seemed like you wouldn’t have gotten a place to sleep if I left you there.”“I’m sure I would have been fine.” She snapped back.Jason raised a brow.“I’m sorry.” Aspen apologized, “I just can’t believe they left m
Aspen was woken up from sleep by the smell of fresh bread. She got up and traced where the aroma was coming from.“I didn’t know you had a kitchen.”Jason laughed, “I didn’t exactly give you a tour yesterday.” He started.“I’m aware our houses look like boring huts from the outside but inside, it’s pretty much the same as houses in the East.”“Except the outside bathroom.” Aspen added.“Except the outside bathroom. Though there’s also a reason for that, same as to why our houses look like huts from outside.”“Why?”“The water can make the rooms humid.”“Oh. Which can make it more cold?”“No. Which can make the thick layers we wear very uncomfortable.”“That makes a lot of sense.”“It does, doesn’t it? Here.” He handed her a piece of warm bread and a cup of tea.Aspen sniffed the cup and smiled“Tastes even better I promise.” Aspen took a bite of the bread and her eyes went wide.“There’s no way you made this! I could never get bread this good at home!”Her reaction warmed Jason’s hea
Megan was in her office attending to her duties. Duties that would soon belong to Aspen. She remembered spending most of her childhood and all of her teenage years training for the position of the wife of the alpha and future king.Never in a million years did she think she would be rounding up her projects, giving up the things she loved.Megan cried herself to sleep every now and then. She didn’t believe it would hurt this much if her marriage was purely political or if the mistress was a total stranger. It was hard for the queen. She hated especially that they had Rhode Wales and his entourage around. She had her guard up more than usual because Rhode was always at places where only she and Mason’s owner would know.Mason’s owner had never shown up and despite Brianna and Rosetta pitching to her that Mason’s owner was Rhode Wales, Megan simply couldn’t fathom it.
Richardson knew he had screwed up Royally. He only put the blame on Aspen because there was no one else to take it, and she was stupid enough really. It was not Aspen’s fault, it was his for not having enough backbone to stop the left state counselor from executing a plan that he knew could very well be the death of him and his family. He was trapped from all sides, and even the fae people were beginning to show him disrespect, and when that happened, it was imperative to realize that things were bad. Really bad.Turning to the still gasping Aspen on the floor, he could not bring himself to apologize for his actions. He probably was not even sorry he did what he did. He knew that she was innocent, but it didn't stop him laying his hands on her. And he couldn't help but shudder against the kind of man he was turning into. He could remember putting his hands on Megan too. Megan. Felt like she was light-years away, and the distance was killing him.But it was his fault, his fault he lost
“Oh my God!” Aspen could only groan as she looked at the soldiers in armors walking around the castle with a grim face. And her heart shrank as she realized that she had caused this. The men were going to go to war, and she was going to leave her and Richardson's life endangered, not to talk of her baby! All because of one tiny rookie mistake.“When are they leaving?!” She asked as she burst into Richardson's office and he turned to give her an irritated glance, causing her to flinch. He never used to look at her like that.“Ok. I know I made a mistake. A rookie mistake. Are you really going to blame me for it?” Aspen asked, her eyes wide open as she tried to plead with Richardson to see her side of the story. But if anything, his glare only intensified.“Look. I am busy trying to prolong the departure, I don't need this from you.” He told her, and Aspen signed again. She did not wish to die. And definitely not with a baby in her belly. That would be one horribly bloated corpse. She
Richardson gritted his teeth as he sat in his courtroom again. It was really becoming monotonous, day after day he sat to receive a word lash where he was too timid to say a word in his defense.Funny thing was he had never really noticed just how outnumbered he was, but suddenly it was all he could see. And the elders had obviously smelt the new found weakness in him, and God forbid that they did not exploit it.And as usual they had started their pressure on getting him to marry Aspen, the mother of his unborn child to secure the throne, and it really caused a bitter taste to flood his mouth. Marry Aspen? Hell! He had sooner married a tree. It would be better even. A tree would at least be silent, which was more than he could say for his lady.He could feel Aspen fidgeting besides him, he had finally threatened her to attend the morning assembly, and she had, her face sullen beside him. Heavens! She was sulking next to the king! Richardson realized how bad this made him look in the
Rhode paced as he looked outside. He was feeling very uneasy. He knew he was probably being unreasonable, but he could not help it and could not help but entertain the voices in his head.“You should probably sit down.” Brian suggested helpfully from where he sat, but Rhode ignored him, he was too consumed by his troubles to listen properly.“What exactly is bothering you?” Brian asked again. Now, if he had sounded sincerely and truly interested with a hint of sympathy, then Rhode might have confided in him, but Brian was sprawled nonchalantly on his sofa and his eyes had a very amused look in them. Because of this, Rhode ignored him again.“So, I guess you don't want to talk about it?” Bryan asked again, but Rhode only answered with a groan. As he stared at the window, he heard a feminine laugh flutter through the trees in his garden outside, and straining his neck, his eyes were pleasantly surprised to see Megan and Brianna strolling through the garden.Unbeknownst to Rhode, a year
Her friends leaned forward anxiously. Each waiting to see the bomb she was going to drop any second. And Megan twisted from discomfort. She knew she was being unfair to Rhode, but she simply could not help but think about it. Especially now that her stomach was already bulging and could only be covered by the heavy garments she made sure to wear on a daily basis.“My lady?” Brianna reminded, and Megan jolted. She just had to get it out after all. If anyone could understand, then it would be her friends. They were incredibly loyal after all.“Well, you see…” still she hesitated, knowing that after she spoke, she would not be able to take it back. And Megan was not one to speak lightly.“Yes?” They urged, exchanging concerned looks as they undoubtedly wondered if something crucial had happened to her under their noses and they had no idea?“Ok, here it goes!” Megan suddenly yelled, before taking a deep breath and rushing to sit beside her Ladies.“Yes?” They urged again. The concern is
Megan surveyed the table as she sat down gracefully, all the while wondering why Rhode had summoned herself, Brianna, Rosetta, Brian and Lord Rosebud in a very secluded room with trusted guards placed at the door. But she would let him speak first. Whatever had happened in the council room today was something that had raised his hackles high and on alert.“You all must be wondering why you are all here.” He started, and Megan nodded with the rest. Turning to Rosetta and Brianna, it was obvious that he was shocked to see them standing behind him.“Take a seat. Go on.” He encouraged. Now Megan was even more suspicious. Rosetta and Brianna sitting in the same room with Lords and ladies? It was almost unheard of.Sure, she allowed and even encouraged it, she had to look around to see if everybody else was on board with this. She would hate to see them uncomfortable. To her relief though, they all looked alright.“Rhode?” She interrupted softly. And he turned to her as she called him. “Wh
Aspen's life was going to shit. Firstly, Richardson confirmed her worst fears by saying to her face that he never had the intention to make her queen. Then proceeded to make it clear how much he hated her. Something that was rapidly becoming vice versa. And then there was Rudolph. The strange reporter that had barged into her chambers and pointed all five of his fingers at her accusingly, and claimed he knew where her son, the son that had been sired by that barbarian was. Confirming one of Aspen’s worst fears in a few seconds. After that incident, she had been unable to breathe because she believed that when she let her guard down, then that damned reporter would start publishing articles about the life she had led up in the north. That was frankly what kept her up many nights, but to her surprise, she heard nothing from Rudolph after that night. And the border guards she had bribed for information told her that they had indeed seen a person with Rudolph's exact description leaving t
Lord Fuhler was trying to force breath into his lungs as he stood in his ancestral castle belonging to the Fuhlers name and tried to swallow the urge to scream.Rhode had somehow managed to smash all his wonderful plans to shreds and Lord Fuhler was in shock. He had planned it well, so well that there was even a safety net to catch him should the already immaculate plan fail, but Rhode had somehow managed to smash both the plan and the net to smithereens.“Argh!”Lord Fuhler finally pointed the middle finger to decorum and screamed his lungs out in frustration. He felt like putting a bounty on Rhode's and Megan's head. A million dollars for anyone who brings me the head of the Alpha, or his bitch! But unfortunately, some fantasies tended to remain fantasies.“My Lord, your daughter is here.” A servant announced and Fuhler nodded as his eyes burned with a vengeful rage. He would not be surprised if his own daughter had been the one to screw him over. Not surprised at all.“Send her in.
Rhode sighed as he watched Megan sink tiredly into her bed with a sigh of relief as her hand went to clutch at her forehead. He knew such stress and excitement could not possibly be good for the child she was carrying, but for some reason, his court had been very stirred up lately.“What is going through that pretty head of yours?” Megan asked with a laugh, and Rhode jolted to reality with a guilty expression, he had no idea he had zoned out.“Why?” He laughed along with her, and he could tell his eyes were twinkling mischievously. “Are you curious?” He asked and she nodded eagerly as she stared at him right in the eyes, and Rhode grinned again. He had always loved it when she smiled at him and looked at him straight in the eyes with zero inhibitions. He knew that it would probably be a long time before she could completely trust him given her past, but he was willing to work for it.“Yes!” Megan laughed again. “A penny for your thoughts?” Before opening his mouth to speak, Rhode mad
