Chapter 11

last update Veröffentlichungsdatum: 31.03.2026 05:53:09

Dawn hadn’t fully broken yet, but I was already awake. I couldn’t sleep a wink through out the night. My eye-bags would require editing in the photos.

Today was the day. The very day I get married to a near stranger, binding my life to someone I’d known for less than twenty four hours.

A slightly all consuming dread washes over me as I stare at my dress on the rail.

I haven’t slept eight consecutive hours since the very day back at the Stewart house where father had announced that I would be taking my sister’s place.

This morning, before the whole wedding ceremony started, I realized that I had to tell him. He had to know who he was getting married to. I wasn’t Emily Stewart, I was Brianna Stewart.

A part of me also hoped that Emily would return, realize that she had to do this and take her rightful place but with every click of the clock, the possibility dips, painfully.

And so, I just knew I had to tell him.

If we went on to start the wedding and when the vows were spoken, my name was mentioned without him knowing. I couldn’t even imagine what disaster that would be. I had to do it now.

That’s why I’m up at the crack of dawn with a new found resolve. Maybe this was my way out, maybe I could finally escape the wedding.

If he found that I wasn’t who he wanted, I could have my chance to escape. It wouldn’t be my fault, it would be that he was deceived my father.

My hands were already shaking as I left the room. I trudged down the hallways in search of his, or wherever he found to sleep last night seeing that I took his room or as he said, our room.

I found on where light slipped through the bottom of the door and decided it had to be it.

My heart pounded so loudly I was sure the entire estate could hear it as I stilled in front of his door.

This was it.

I lifted my hand and knocked.

“Come in.”

He was awake.

His voice came from the other side—calm, steady, completely unaware.

It made my chest tighten. I pushed the door open.

And there he was.

Adrian stood in front of the mirror, adjusting his suit like this was just another normal morning. Like today wasn’t… this. The sight of him—sharp, composed, already prepared—sent something strange through me.

Warmth.

Even I wasn’t sure of the wedding and wouldn’t be getting dressed unless I was certain Emily was not coming back for her place.

He on the other hand looked like he would get married right this second, like he looked forward to this day all his life. The thought of it does something strange to my already thumping heart.

And it also made the guilt worse. This was the time, I had to do it.

He caught my reflection in the mirror.

Our eyes met.

And just like that, his entire expression shifted—softer, warmer.

“Good morning, baby.”

My stomach twisted.

God.

Why did he have to be like that?

I swallowed, forcing my feet to move closer, even though every nerve ending in me was screaming to run.

“I… um…”

My voice came out smaller than I intended.

He turned then, fully facing me, brows drawing together slightly as he took in my expression.

“What’s wrong my love?” he asked drawing closer to me, his face etched with genuine concern that just made it all worse.

“I—there’s something I need to tell you,” I said, my fingers curling by my side, “And I just… I hope you don’t get mad.”

A small exhale left him, almost amused, like I’d said something ridiculous.

“Mad?” he repeated, tilting his head slightly. “At you?”

I nodded quickly, even though my chest felt tight.

I willed myself to be resolute. “First I need to know something.” I looked up at him now. “Why are you being so nice to me?”

His head tilts again in confusion, “What was that supposed to mean? You are my wife and nice is bare minimum, I’m just decent to be honest.”

“No.. it’s not….I’m not,” I sputtered, my gaze now downturned, “Okay look… I’m not your actual wife or bride or whatever. I am Brianna Stewart, not Emily Stewart, your actual bride.”

He didn’t reply. I had to continue.

“I didn’t know until recently,” I rushed out. “I also found out the day before, and I thought—maybe I should tell you before the ceremony because if I don’t then—then it would be wrong and—”

“Hey.”

His voice cut through my rambling, his hands finding my shoulders in a bid to keep me from panicking. I was on the brink of it.

But I had to let it out before it spiraled. I had to let him be aware, before commitments are made.

“Slow down,” he said quietly, his gaze steady on mine. “What are you talking about?”

My throat felt dry as I pulled away from his hold. Everything in me tightened.

“You must think that I was Emily, but I’m not. I am Brianna, the one sent as a replacement for the bride that ran away.”

“I’m not the youngest daughter you asked for,” I continued, my chest tightening with every word. “I’m Brianna. I wasn’t the one you were supposed to marry.”

My hands clenched tighter.

Then Silence, he doesn’t speak, I don’t dare to continue or look up to see his face.

I waited for outburst, for anger, shock, anything. Nothing came. I could only freeze in place.

“Brianna,” he called out, like he was testing the name on his tongue.

My heart thudded violently against my chest, not from fear, or anything.

I just had to admit, the way he said my name, for the first time felt way too good. I couldn’t help but look up at him.

  • The Replaced Bride’s Fortune   Chapter 29

Adrian’s POV Fixing my cufflinks, I exited the house with Barrett trailing a step behind me. My chest tightened at the thought of leaving my wife behind again—alone for another night. Perhaps, by the time I returned, she would have changed her mind. A faint smile gives at my lips at the possibility, even thought it was unlikely with her stubborn self. As we approached the car, I felt the familiar shift of myself slipping into the cold mask I was known for. In no time, we arrived at the warehouse. Colton hurried to my side the moment I stepped out of the car, filling me in on everything before I’d even straightened my jacket. Apparently some men had shown up claiming authority over shipments at the port. They had interrupted every movement and made it impossible for my workers to load. I already knew who was behind it. It had the fingerprints of my rivals’ work all over it. To think they’d send thugs to my warehouse. Wrong fucking move. I took off my jacket and handed it to C

  • The Replaced Bride’s Fortune   Chapter 28

Adrian’s POV I was still kneeling in desperate apology when Barrett’s voice cut in. I found myself unmoving, my neck snapping quick towards him. Like the sight burned him, I watched Barrett turn around immediately.‘Good thinking.’He refused to see me on my knees in front of my wife. Deep down, I didn’t even care. If it meant my wife would return, I’d do it in front of a crowd. I’d even sell tickets. Hell, if even shoot a small film of the whole damn thing myself. From my kneeling position, She pulled me to my feet, her hand warm around my arm, and I held onto that small touch longer than I should have.Could I take it as her forgiving me? I glanced at my wife and she averted her gaze, but I didn’t miss the small flush creeping up her skin or the way she bit her lips as it tilted into a shy smile. She must have found the whole thing funny. ‘Do I start a circus now?’I pulled her close with one swift motion, taking advantage of the small opening she gave. Her hands flew to my che

Adrian’s POVMy wife moved out of our room tonight. The thought of it made me defeated. I almost dragged her back. I was not above begging her. Going in my knees to plead for forgiveness was the least I’d do to have her back.I tried everything I could possibly do. I pleaded, I pouted, I even pledged to keep her in the loop of every of my decisions. She just was having it.My wife, although shy and reserved, was stubborn as well. She was fiesty and resolute in a way that just made me love her more. Memories of how she used to be came to mind and I couldn’t help but smile. She was a very outgoing and caring girl. She had started to open up to me in the last few days but I fear that today , with everything that happened with her father, I may she undone all the progress and trust I’d garnered. Now, as I paced in front of the doors leading to the new room she had now chosen to stay, I was restless and curious. It was currently past eight. The lights filtered out from the creak of spac

  • The Replaced Bride’s Fortune   Chapter 26

Brianna’s POV Barrett scurried in, his eyes observing, taking in the scene that played out immediately. “Sir?” Adrian spat, “Get him out of here right now.” His words were sharp and clipped, cold in a way that made even me do a double take. I remained frozen in shock, trepidation washing over me like baptismal water. The scene unfolding before me was like a dream. Never in a million years would I have expected it. My father let out a harsh scoff, pulling out of Barrett’s hold. “Don’t touch me! I can walk out myself.” He straightened his jacket with trembling hands, his fury barely contained. Before leaving, he turned to me one last time, his glare sharp enough to wound. “I regret taking you in Brianna, you are a disappointment to the Stewart family.” His face was tight with disdain, disappointment etched so deeply it made my chest ache. I could only look down in response, unable to watch him. It was the same look he had always given me whenever I disappointed him in a way or

  • The Replaced Bride’s Fortune   Chapter 25

Brianna’s POVI sat still, confusion settling heavily in my chest as I watched Adrian end the call. Adrian hangs up, his face etching with a seriousness that replaced the easy look he had merely seconds prior.“Is everything alright?” I questioned again, suddenly growing nervous with every passing look in his face. The unease continued to creep up in me with every second he doesn’t answer. He doesn’t respond. Instead, Adrian sits up, holding me up still. His hands slid firmly around my waist, lifting me effortlessly as he rose to his feet with me in his arms.Instinctively, my hands curled around his neck for balance, my pulse quickening for reasons that had nothing to do with what we’d been doing moments ago. When he gently placed me back on the floor, my bare feet met the ground and I immediately stepped back, searching his face.“What’s wrong, Adrian?” I asked again, my voice lower now. “Is Emily okay?”That was the only thing that came to mind at his serious and cold expression.

  • The Replaced Bride’s Fortune   Chapter 24

Adrian’s POVI was barely holding on. I was filled to the brim, my heart thumping beneath my chest in a wild erratic symphony. My hands roamed my wife’s body, her sweet little sounds driving me wild with need. I tried to hold myself, to control myself, to pace myself. I couldn’t though. She drove me utterly mad, her eyes were filled with a need almost similar to mine. Her body, a whimpering mess under my hands that explored without restraint. I press my lips against hers again, loving the way she moaned softly against me, her back arching in response. It pleased me to know she also felt what I felt even though min was more maddening. Her sweet scent enveloped me, casing my brain along with it. I was a goner for sure. My dick ached painfully in my pants, straining and waiting to be freed. I could tear through her clothes right now, take her right here and right now. Damning the other frivolities. But I couldn’t.With my wife I had to be careful, I had to treat her with gentle care a
