Chapter 9 , To hell

Cheesy wiped down the bar counter slowly, sighing from time to time. Mr. Leon still hadn’t returned, which made her increasingly uneasy.

Suddenly, the bar door slammed open.

BANG!!

Everyone turned. Cheesy looked up — and felt the blood drain from her face.

"Young Master Daryl."

He stood in the doorway, radiating menace, his eyes blazing as if ready to burn down anything in his way.

“CHEESY EVELYNE!” he barked.

Cheesy froze. “Mr. Daryl…?”

Before she could react, Daryl strode over and grabbed her arm.

“Hey! Let go! Where are you taking me, Mr. Daryl?!” Cheesy shouted, struggling to break free.

But Daryl didn’t stop. Roughly, he dragged her past the whispering guests, straight to a door labeled **VVIP ROOM**.

BANG!!

He slammed the door shut, shoving Cheesy inside and closing it with a loud thud.

“What the hell is this?!” Cheesy shouted, hitting Daryl’s chest.

Daryl glared coldly at her. He stepped closer, pinning her against the wall.

“You trying to run away from me?!” he hissed, his face so close she could feel his hot breath.

Cheesy tried to stay calm, though her knees were trembling. “I just want to quit this job, Mr. Daryl! That’s my right, isn’t it?!”

Daryl narrowed his eyes, his voice low and threatening. “Why? Looking for a new client? Someone richer than me?”

Cheesy clenched her jaw and lifted her chin. She knew that the more honest she was, the more Daryl would try to crush her. So, she chose to lie.

“Of course. I want the good life, Mr. Daryl,” she said flatly. “I need lots of money. I want to be filthy rich again. That’s all.”

Daryl stared at her, his breath caught — as if he wanted to devour her alive.

“Haven’t I got plenty of money? If you just say you regret everything and beg me for forgiveness, I’d give you whatever you want!” he growled, voice hoarse and full of hate.

Cheesy gave a bitter, thin smile. “HAH! Beg you? NEVER!”

One second. Two…

THUD!

Daryl slammed the wall beside her head, making her flinch.

“DAMN IT!” he snarled, his jaw clenched tight.

Cheesy closed her eyes for a moment, holding the pain in her chest. But she refused to show weakness in front of him.

“I told you from the start. I have no regrets,” she said softly. “I think leaving you was the best decision I ever made.”

Daryl grabbed her chin roughly, forcing her to look at him.

“You’re a heartless woman, Cheesy Evelyne,” he whispered sharply.

Cheesy gave a bitter smile. “Thanks for the compliment, Mr. Daryl.”

Daryl stared at her. There was anger. Hatred. But also — pain.

Without another word, Daryl yanked Cheesy toward the door.

“You’re coming with me,” he said coldly.

“Where?!” Cheesy protested, trying to keep up with his long strides.

Daryl glanced back at her with a deadly glare.

“To hell.”

"What?! To hell?!" asked Cheesy.

Daryl’s apartment was silent now, with only the ticking of the clock filling the room. After throwing his phone against the wall, he slumped onto the floor. His head leaned back against the wall, his breath heavy. His eyes stared blankly at the ceiling. His heart felt like it was being torn apart.“Why did you leave me again, Cheesy…” he whispered under his breath. Then Daryl’s thoughts began to drift—back to six years ago. The day his life fell apart. The day everything changed.Six Years AgoThe campus was lively that day. Daryl and Cheesy’s classmates had gathered at the garden behind the faculty building—their usual spot for birthday celebrations or casual hangouts.Daryl clutched a small box containing a simple ring. His palms were slightly sweaty, but his smile was wide. Today marked exactly two years of their relationship. He planned to propose to Cheesy—symbolically—as a sign of his commitment.“Daryl, are you sure you want to propose to Cheesy in front of everyone like this?”

Every moment with Clara felt emptier than the last.Back in the apartment, Cheesy stood alone, hugging her frail body, trying to suppress the pain that was quietly eating her from the inside. She stared at the gloomy sky outside the window, letting her thoughts drift.Suddenly, a burning sensation crept up her throat."Cough... cough..."What began as a light cough soon turned into an uncontrollable fit. Her chest tightened, her breath caught.Cheesy clutched her chest, trying to stay upright, but her legs wobbled."Cough! Cough!"With each cough, her body shook violently. She’d been postponing buying more for three days due to lack of money."Idiot," she whispered, forcing her

After leaving Daryl’s apartment, Cheesy jogged through the cold morning air. She clutched the twenty million rupiah check tightly, as if afraid it might vanish like a bad dream at any moment.Without wasting time, Cheesy headed to the nearest bank. With trembling hands, she handed the check to the teller.“I’d like to withdraw the full amount,” Cheesy said softly. The teller gave her a brief glance, then began processing the check. Blood dripped onto the white marble. Her body trembled. Her face had gone pale as death. She looked at herself in the mirror—sunken cheeks, hollow eyes, skin devoid of color. Then, she took her painkillers.“I… just need to hold on a little longer,” she whispered, wiping her lips. She rinsed her mouth and quickly cleaned the blood off the floor. She didn’t want Daryl to know. She didn’t want his pity—or worse, his hatred. When she exited the bathroom, Daryl was still asleep.Cheesy picked up the twenty-million check Daryl had thrown the night before.
