Dominic barely slept.

By the time morning began bleeding through the curtains, he was already awake.

He stood outside Ethan’s nursery for a moment, watching his son sleep.

One tiny hand rested against his cheek. His breathing was soft and steady, completely untouched by the chaos that had swallowed the adults around him.

Dominic watched him for a few seconds longer before quietly pulling the door almost shut.

He needed to go to the precinct.

Steve had called him the night before.

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 202 : The Unexpected Things

Chapter 202: The Unexpected ThingsThe drive back to Whitmore was quieter than the meeting they had just left.James sat in the front passenger seat, reviewing a few notes on his tablet, while Emma sat beside Alexander in the back. The meeting at Blackwood had been necessary, but it had also confirmed something Alexander had already suspected. The problems within the company ran deeper than a poorly handled budget.By the time they reached Whitmore’s temporary office, James had finished reviewing the financial figures and was already making notes about the revised allocation. They stepped out of the elevator and walked toward Alexander’s desk.Once inside, James placed his tablet on the desk.“I’ll have our finance team compare the original allocation with the revised proposal. I want a clear breakdown of what was removed and how those reductions would have affected delivery.”“Good,” Alexander replied. “I don’t want any surprises when they send us the next version.”James nodded.“I’

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 201 : No Room for Excuses

Chapter 201: No Room for ExcusesNathan Cole stood beside his office door, waiting for his visitors. He had spent most of the morning preparing for the meeting, reviewing the revised proposal and arranging the financial reports he intended to use to justify the changes. The situation wasn’t ideal, but he wasn’t about to let that show.He had been entrusted with greater responsibilities at Blackwood, and whether or not he had the experience to handle them, he intended to look the part. He had even rehearsed how he would approach the discussion, determined not to appear defensive. The last thing he needed was Alexander Whitmore walking into his office and finding someone who looked incapable of managing a department. When he spotted Alexander Whitmore approaching with Emma Laurent and James Parker, Nathan straightened his jacket and put on a practiced smile.“Mr. Whitmore. Ms. Laurent. Welcome. Please, come in.”He stepped aside, allowing them to enter before gesturing toward the seatin

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 200: The Price of a Signature

Chapter 200: The Price of a SignatureEmma Laurent arrived at Whitmore’s temporary office earlier than usual. Her comparison report was open on her laptop. Beside it lay printed copies of Blackwood’s original agreement, the revised proposal, and the approval record that had brought everything into question. She had spent most of the previous evening examining the documents, checking the figures, and tracing every alteration. The findings were worse than she had initially expected.Blackwood had reduced staffing, removed essential testing stages, and changed several deliverables. Yet the deadlines and expected outcomes remained untouched. And someone had attached her name to an approval she had never given.Emma closed the folder. She wasn’t going to let anyone dismiss this as a minor administrative error.A few minutes later, Michael Reed appeared at the glass doorway.“Good morning, Ms. Laurent. Mr. Whitmore is ready. Mr. Parker and Mr. Bennett are already in the conference room.”“T

Chapter 199 - A Different MondayEmma woke before her alarm. For a few moments, she remained beneath the covers, staring at the ceiling with a smile she couldn’t quite hide.Monday.Her first official day at Whitmore.A new beginning. Her phone buzzed on the bedside table.A message from Stephanie. You’re awake already?Emma smiled and typed back.First official day. I’m excited.Stephanie’s reply arrived almost immediately. You’ve been excited since you signed the contract. I’m surprised you slept at all.Emma laughed softly before climbing out of bed. When she entered the kitchen, Stephanie was already there, holding a mug of coffee.“Look who’s up early.”“Good morning to you too.”Stephanie glanced at the clock. “You do realise you don’t have to reach the office three hours before everyone else?”“I’m not going three hours early.”“Only two?”Emma took the coffee Stephanie offered her. “You’re enjoying this far too much.”“I’m enjoying watching you pretend this is an ordinary Mond

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 198 : A Little More Like Home

Chapter 198: A Little More Like Home Nathan Cole had spent ten years learning how to survive at Blackwood Industries. He knew which executives preferred concise reports, which departments could absorb a budget reduction without making too much noise, and which promises were safest to make when he wasn’t entirely certain he could keep them. Most importantly, he knew when a decision had already been made before anyone bothered to call a meeting. Richard Harrington’s office was quiet when Nathan entered. The older man sat behind his desk, a report open on his monitor. He finished reading before finally looking up. “Close the door, Nathan.” Nathan did as instructed. “Sit.” He took the chair opposite the desk and placed his folder on his lap. “Apex Industries has officially moved forward with the other firm,” Richard said. Nathan had already heard the news. It had travelled through the company faster than any official announcement, carried from one department to anothe

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 197 : The Cost of a Decision

Chapter 197 — The Cost of a Decision Two days had passed since Emma Laurent accepted Alexander Whitmore’s offer. While she and Stephanie prepared to move into their new home, Nathan Cole was discovering that decisions made on paper could have consequences far beyond a budget. ──────── Nathan stared at the complaint on his screen. The quarterly report had arrived late, several figures didn’t match the supporting records, and the client had caught the discrepancy before his own team did. It was the fourth complaint in less than a week. “Three other clients have raised concerns,” Jennifer said, placing a folder on his desk. “One has requested a meeting with senior management. Another is questioning whether we can meet the next deadline.” “Has the discrepancy been corrected?” “Yes. But the client has already warned us twice about delayed responses. They said another failure would make them reconsider the contract.” Nathan looked up. “You didn’t mention that.” “I di

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 5 : The File

Morning in the Sterling mansion did not arrive with sunlight. It arrived with silence. Emma woke to stillness so complete it felt curated. The curtains were half drawn, the light filtered into something pale and artificial. The air smelled faintly of Dominic Sterling’s cologne….dark, expensive,

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 7 : Escalation

The silence outside the bedroom door did not feel like absence. It felt like pressure. Emma Laurent stood in the center of the room, staring at the locked door as if she could see through it…see him. Dominic Sterling did not shout. He did not pound on the wood like a jealous husband. He did not

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 6 : The Dinner Table

The Laurent estate had always felt larger at night. Not grander. Just heavier. The chandeliers cast gold across polished marble floors, across portraits of men who had built empires and lost them, across women who had smiled through wars no one ever wrote about. Emma stood at the entrance be

  • The Rise From Betrayal   Chapter 1 : The Door That Ended Everything

The message arrived at 8:17 p.m. Emma almost ignored it. She was sitting alone in the living room of the Sterling mansion, the lights dim, a half-finished glass of water resting on the marble coffee table. Dominic’s had texted two hours ago ….”Board meeting running late. Don’t wait up.”
