A visit gone wrong.
I go to open Nadine’s front door, when Brennan manoeuvres himself in front of me and gets to the door first. How the hell did he do that? Damn these lycans are fast. A slight growl leaves my chest at him cutting in front of me, which he chooses to ignore for now. As the door opens we are greeted by Mav who seems to be on guard today. Odd I didn’t think she was a threat anymore. I go to greet Mav but am cut off by the mind-linking conversation he and Brennan enter with one another.Nadine isn’t in the main apartment area but I follow her scent to her bedroom. I push on the bedroom door and find her in bed feeding baby Bonnie. She looks up at me with sore looking eyes that must have cried non stop since she was forcefully marked as punishment. A bang of guilt hits me but I have to remember her reactions almost killed Axel, not to mention the deaths of others.“May I come in?” I push my luck judging by the growl that leaves her. It is enough for both Brennan and Mav to pull me back and block me from her view. Seriously?“It’s important.” I try barely able to see her through the wall that is Mav and Brennan. I push through them both, showing my irritation with a scowl. For me to get Lance and Axel back I have to talk to her, Mav knows this…why was he being a jerk. I sit at the end of her bed, picking up some of the baby’s clothes and folding them for her. If I get enough of her baby’s scent on me she should calm down and not see me as a threat. Andrei, the trainer back at the Sagar back, used to teach me simple yet effective methods like this. My scent will become less threatening too her and she’ll be calmed by a more familiar scent. That of her baby’s.“How is she doing?” I ask, not making eye contact. Not being threatening whatsoever. Nadine’s eyes are on Brennan and Mav who are standing by the door, poised.“She isn’t feeding well, so I’ve been up a lot in the nights.” She responds now watching me fold up the clothes.“Not feeding well? May I?” Brennan takes some steps in, standing next to me.My eyes flicker to Nadine who cradles her baby even closer at his words.“I’m a doctor, I might be able to help her…” He says as he takes a step closer looking down at the feeding baby.“She has a blocked nose. Can you hear her struggling to breathe and feed at the same time? She’s having to pause to breathe through her mouth. It would be very tiring for her.” His approach completely changes from a body guard to that of concerned physician.“I can book her in for the hospital? Trust me, it will help her and you sleep better.” He offers.“Why would you help me?” She starts to turn sour again.“Your baby is an innocent, no need to let her suffer. I’m sure what Aida here has to say won’t take long, then we could go to the hospital together?”She seems to like his suggestion. My eyes slam shut by a sharp pain in my chest, it’s enough to make bile hit the back of my throat. I swallow it back down and take a deep breath in.“I found Lynx!” No point beating around the bush. Nadine doesn’t respond, she freezes in fact, refusing to make eye contact with me.“He has offered a deal.” I continue but am cut off by her scoff.“A deal? What kind of deal?”“That we will release you as long as his men pledge their allegiance to the royal family.”“He’d never promise that. Your lying.” Is she a Lycan or a snake, because their is a demonic hiss to her voice.“Well he has. You’ve got a second chance here Nadine, don’t waste it.”“What would you know about second chances?”“More than you know. I’ll keep my word, as long as he does.”“Well look at you! Making deals like a proper member of the royal family.” She sneers at me. Was she a twin too? Her hot and cold behaviour was giving me just as much whiplash as Spike’s and Lynx’s previous duo routine. My wolf doesn’t appreciate her argumentative behaviour. At the end of the day, Lynx would be dead if it wasn’t for me. I think I should remind her of this.“Let’s not forget Nadine that your mate would be dead if it wasn’t for me…you’ve already lost one, don’t be foolish and lose another.”My wolf is too slow. Nadine lunges for me, her claws slashing across my face. What a bitch!Mav, as always, was fast. He reaches for me, before her other hand also gets a chance to claw at my face. I’m spun in the air and placed behind his tall muscular body.Mav is angry. His body is trembling as he stands over Nadine, just managing to keep his wolf contained.“That was irresponsible Nadine.” Brennan scolds her as he lays a now sleeping Bonnie down in her bedside crib.“You know Aida is under royal protection. You need to control your temper. From what I’ve been told she’s the reason Lynx wasn’t killed on the spot. Some more respect would be appreciated.” Brennan’s voice is cold, informal. He’s had enough now.“Should Lynx deliver what he promises you will be free to go. But only if you prove not to be a threat. Now I’ll need to tell the King of your latest outburst and I have a feeling that will have set you back!” It’s like he’s talking to a child.I am ushered out by Brennan, leaving Mav behind. Which I didn’t like doing. I know he could defend himself but Nadine was cunning.“I don’t like Mav being alone in there.” I look up to Brennan as we reach the elevator and he presses the call button. He nods gently at me before his eyes glaze over. The elevator doors open and he tugs my elbow to follow him inside.“I need to check your wounds.” He looks at me oddly.“I’ll be healed soon enough.”We are almost at the palace’s private back entrance when Emmett walks out biting into an apple.“Blimey Aida, I hope you won?” He winks at me as he heads out.“Where is Emmett off to?” I ask Brennan.“To help Mav.”“Oh thank you.” I expected a royal guard to help Mav out, not one of Ricardo’s cousins. Surely this type of work was beneath them.“Sure!” Brennan says as he opens the back door and lets me walk in first.“So you’re a doctor?”“Yes I’ve trained to be the King’s personal physician.”“Quite a responsibility.” I chuckle.“With you around…yes!” He chuckles back, but his comments earns a pout from me. I didn’t go looking for trouble.“I have a feeling you’ll keep me busy too. Come sit down…let me clean you wounds.” He pulls a chair out from the dining table in the kitchen for me to sit on. I touch my face and am surprised to feel it is wet. I examine the blood on my fingers before walking over to the oven and checking my reflection in a silver saucepan. Claw marks are slashed across my left cheek from the bottom of my eye to the corner of my lip. Clearly being a rogue also affects your healing speed.“Aida…” Ricardo yells for me from the sitting room before both he and Lorrel walk into the kitchen. Ricardo is holding several human newspapers under his arm.“Why can I smell your blood?” He pinches his nose in frustration, just like Lance does when he is super annoyed by me.“Nadine managed to slash me that is all.”“Why were you that close?” He growls at me, before walking closer and lifting my chin to inspect my face wound.“I’m going to clean the wound. It isn’t healing.” Brennan mutters as he moves to the kettle to boil some water.“Not healing?” Lorrel looks at her nephew with a furrowed brow.“No more visits!” Ricardo orders.“Ricardo…I need to visit her to help Lance and Axel….” I protest.“No, or I’ll put you under house arrest myself.” He roars at me before slamming the newspapers on the dining table and walking out of the room.“Not healing?” I hear Lorrel very faintly murmur to herself.A back seat driver. Ricardo wasn’t kidding. I wasn’t allowed to leave the palace for the rest of the weekend and if I exited Lance’s bedroom, I had to be accompanied anywhere else in the palace. Again not wanting to be a burden…I mainly stayed in the room. The physical affect on my body of becoming a rogue was extraordinary. It was difficult to explain, it felt like a constant sharp pain in my chest that was only getting more frequent in its spasms and stronger in its ache. Maybe I always had this pain but having the, albeit cold at times, warm feeling of being joined to a pack overshadowed this pain. Maybe this is what true anxiety felt like. The feeling of displacement since I was twelve but I had never allowed myself to feel it before. Never stood still long enough. Except for watching the television and going on Lance’s laptop, there wasn’t much else to do. I should really be training on his home gym but I would rather be watching Lance train from the comfort of his bed. Lance w
Smelling like a rogue. “I need to find her!” I restart the car’s ignition and start to turn the car around. “Just wait…wait for me to get orders from the King!” Jake firmly orders at me before his eyes glaze over.“She’s going to get herself killed and I need her alive!” I scream out in frustration. I need Lance and Axel back safe and uninjured. “Switch!” Colette orders at me. “What?”“Switch!” She steps out of the car and opens up the driver’s door. She shoos me over and I have to climb over the central gear system into the front passenger seat. “We aren’t too far out. It won’t take long.” This woman can drive! I’m envious of her confidence behind the wheel. Yet I am clinging on to the seat for my life, knowing how quickly things can turn. From being a passenger to being in the wreckage. “Colette…slow down!” I squeal at her as she takes a bend too quickly. Did I drive past that bend, I feel like I would have remembered that dangerous part of the road. “Do you want to catch he
Jumping the border. With her airbag having already been deployed, Colette takes the brunt of the car hitting the tree and blood starts to flow freely from her nose. She has also banged her forehead and the cut is quite deep. Shit, Mav is going to literally kill me. If and a big if, I make it out of this attack alive. She was already too injured for my liking and being, I hate to say it, only human…the warriors won’t be interested in her if I can lead them away. “Keep pressure on the nose and get word to Mav as soon as you can.” I say to her as I climb out of the car. “Aida!” She screams for me as I start to run through the woods, trying to force the warriors away from her. I don’t stop, even though they are all in wolf form and I am still in skin form. I curse at my wolf internally as I trip over a large fallen tree branch and land in a puddle of wet mud. Now what Aida? Just keep running. That was fine, until I came out of the wooded area and headed into a field. I could see th
The Mulder Pack Did I just hear him right? He wants me to join the Mulder pack? Does that mean my training is over? Have I pushed him just one time too far? “I don’t understand?” I respond quietly. “You being a rogue is clearly a safety issue.” Ricardo replies. “I’m sorry, your men were only following their wolf’s nature.” I apologies for yet again drama following me. “What happened with Nadine?” I ask, wondering what must have happened.“She killed her guard, not the one who marked her. Thankfully because he was able to help capture her.” “How?”“He marked her again, causing her body to collapse.” Ricardo updates me with a matter of fact tone. “Oh I didn’t know that could happen.” I mutter more to myself. “Where was she trying to go?” I ask but am met with silence. I meet Jake’s eyes in the rear view mirror who is nowhere near the cheeky Lycan I was enjoying getting to know. Okay let’s rephrase that. “How far did she get?”“You Aida, she was coming for you. She was armed wi
A Pack Princess’ pain. A good daughter would have stayed for the funeral, would have helped plan it. I am not a good daughter. But then he wasn’t a good father. “Oh right!” I respond, what else can I say? “Did you want to know when it is?” Andrei looks at me with a slight look of annoyance in his eyes. He was either annoyed of my lack of respect for his dead alpha, or that he was expected to travel around the packs. It was really a job for the beta. Which to me signals that all is now well between Henri and William. Perhaps Caleb has now stepped up and the four of them are living in the alpha house. I can see the garish welcome canvas print of Henri, Saskia, Skylar and Caleb in the main hallway. It will be bright and ugly, not Caleb though he looked good in any picture. A sharp pain hits me in my lower abdomen of thinking about Caleb, perhaps my heat was starting again. Great, I best speed up this rogue situation. “By all means tell me, but I won’t be attending.” “You won’t be abl
A Pack member again “Stop…please stop!” I scream out. “It will stop as soon as you pledge your allegiance.” Ricardo holds me tight, not giving me an inch of movement to attack. “I can’t…” I gasp out. The pain was excruciating, like someone was crushing my skull. “Just repeat after me…” Brennan is behind me, also caging me in. “I, Aida Sagar, accept Alpha Rory Mulder as my Alpha…” Brennan starts. “I…Aida Sagar, accept….” The pain now in my chest, catches my breath. “…Alpha Rory Mulder as my Alpha…”“And accept my place within the Mulder Wolf Pack.” Brennan finished. I’m wailing like a child as this point, the pain unbearable. Poor Rory looks heartbroken, like I am dying in front of his eyes. “Come on Aida, it’s nearly over.” Ricardo encourages me as he strokes the back on my head. “And accept my place within the Mulder Wolf Pack.” I push through the wall of pain. Knocking down each brick with my inner strength. “I, Alpha Rory Mulder accept your position within the Mulder Pac
Not the back door I lost, my wolf totally failing me. I was hardly any faster than a human. Then to finish it off I was informed that stage three training started in the Alpha’ office and I was cutting it fine to get back to the courtyard in time for 9am. After watching Rafe gloat about being the world’s best beta, I started to run back in the direction of the Alpha’s office. Having just eaten breakfast and then over exerted myself with the unnecessary run, it resulted in me vomiting in one of the male’s showers out in the courtyard. Rinsing the contents of my stomach away with the shower head, I quickly raced to Alpha’s office making it just in time for 9am. Strategy…seems like a lot of maps and planning to me. A bit boring for me. I was more of a do it now and worry about the consequences later she-wolf. Which when I mentioned this to Alpha, he chuckled claiming that is why I need to concentrate on stage three the most. That one day, I might be expected to send warriors into batt
Violet eyes. I was in a foul mood for the rest of the week. I still wasn’t allowed to use weapons in training and in fact, Ricardo was starting to pull my sparring matches. He claimed that Hong knew Lycan history more, being an alpha, and he didn’t need to accompany me as often in the library. So I basically slept, ate, read and repeat. I did squeeze in quite a few Rayna cuddles and being Friday I suggested that Rayna come visit the palace for a few hours in the evening so that Mav and Colette could go to the Lycan small high street for dinner. Today would have been Father’s funeral and I tried to keep busy, tried to seem fine. Knowing I was babysitting Rayna was all that kept me through the day. Will the decision not to have gone haunt me in years to come? I couldn’t go to my mothers, so why should I go to my fathers. I am a bad daughter. A good daughter would have gone. I bet Alpha Ray went. He’s probably told Henri I am now part of the Mulder pack. “Are you sure you’ll be okay
