Chapter 36

Amber’s POV

“You heard that?” I whispered to Alpha Taylor at the same moment Delilah turned around and yelled in a loud voice.

“Who’s there?!”

Hair stood on the back of my neck as goosebumps rose along my arms. I took a few steps forward but Taylor held my arm and pushed me behind him protectively.

“Show yourself!” He growled, the air shaking with his alpha power as I held my breath.

Who was that? A lab nurse who saw us? Or maybe…. My mind went blank, all my senses numbed as a young girl stepped out of the corner.

At least that was what I thought she was. A girl. Because her form was so mangled between wolf and human, I could barely make any other details out.

“By the goddess,” Delilah swore softly. In front of me, I could feel Taylor’s rage. He kept silent but his hands balled to fists by his side, a vein ticking at the side of his head.

The little girl-wolf was shaking. She slowly walked out, looking at us with fearful eyes and trembling so badly.
