“Seriously, Alpha! I think you need to rethink this!”

Sam, Charles, and I were in Silas’ office. He was, per usual, sitting behind his desk with his elbows on the table, and his fingers interlaced. All he was missing was a cat and we could have filmed a villain scene for James Bond with the aura he was giving off.

“Sam, don’t question my decision.”

Alone? You’re sending Beta, alone, for three weeks in a completely different pack? Why? Send us! Charles and I can go! We’ve done trips in the past.”

Silas growled. “Alpha Andrew isn’t as keen on the idea of a human mate for someone of your position. I chose Nate because there was no other choice.”

It took every force I had in me not to roll my eyes. I was sitting down on the couch while Sam had gotten up from his chair. Charles, since he wasn’t actually leadership, just stayed quiet, leaning against th

The rest of the dinner turned to lighter topics. Some of the more complicated situations within the pack. Or the gossip Nate had missed over the years. It was fun, getting to talk about the silly things with him. Especially, for the first time since I knew him, he wasn’t the first one to the gossip. Usually he was the one giving it to Mer and I.Nate also talked about the pack he was living with now. It was the White Sun pack, lead by Alpha Jacob. Hearing he’d moved all the way to an island off the mainland of Greece shocked me. He didn’t give specifics of where, and I could tell he was being deliberate about that, but I didn’t mind. All he was doing was protecting himself and his pups.Apparently, he was acting Beta for Alpha Jacob. He’d step in and do work when the Alpha requested it. It kept him busy, but it surprised me when he said he didn’t need to work. He explained Solaris had helped him, even after her death. Charles and I h

Nate chuckled, mostly to himself. “They are Alpha’s through and through. As you can see, I didn’t get a single drop of my DNA in there. Landon is older by a few minutes, and he takes charge most of the time. Amelia is quiet, but she is very observant. Sometimes scarily so.”Charles fell back against the seat. “Well…fuck me…twins. Isn’t that rare?”I answered my mate. “Extremely. For a regular she-wolf, it’s rare. For a male Omega, even more so. You aren’t even an Omega so I don’t really…”“Aelia messed with our bond when she died. In her letters, she said there were some repercussions to her weaving her own bond into ours. That might be it, but as she said, it’s all conjecture at this point.” Nate took a sip of his tea. “They are so wonderful. They make it so easy on me. I don’t know how I got so lucky with them.” His eyes wer

*** Sam’s POV ***I was nervous. It made little sense for me to be nervous. It was just dinner with Nate. We had decided on Friday night at a restaurant a block down from the hotel. Smoothing out my shirt, I looked in the hotel’s full-length mirror behind the door. Was this too much? Too little?“Sweetheart, relax.” Looking over my shoulder, Charles was buttoning his cuffs. “It’s just Nate.”“I know…I just…”It was silly. I knew that already. Turning back to the mirror, my light blue button-up shirt had a slight shimmer to it since it was silk. I’d chosen tan pants to go with the top and some brown shoes. Sighing, I ran my hand through my hair again before turning back to my mate.He was wearing a darker blue shirt with black slacks. I felt less like a sore thumb because he was equally dressed up. The restaurant w

I walked into the hotel we were all staying at for the Alpha Conference. Around us, there were Alphas, Betas and the occasional Gamma talking amongst each other. The hotel this time around was far fancier than the one we had previously. It was the one time every Alpha showed up in one place, no matter where they were from. Otherwise, the Alpha King would send out his own knights to “check-up” on your pack.It was boring, stupid, but it set the stage for the coming years on what we were focusing on as a race. There was also a chance to network and allies would have separate meetings over the coming years as well. Since it was hard for us to be together like this. Every year was too much, and five seemed like a good chunk of time to go over.I left Dean, Ida, and Wyatt in charge of the pack. Sam had been right for my sanity. I didn’t want to be stuck with one of them. There was no way I was going to this thing alone, either. They could go off together a

When I walked in, Elder Calum and Elder Herman were bickering like a bunch of old maids. I sat down at the end of the table and rubbed my eyes. They always called meetings too early in the morning. I’m pretty sure it was because I couldn’t start drinking if I had to get my ass out of bed at the crack of dawn and come straight over. Which was a pain on its own.Elder Marshall, Elder Tomas, and Elder Edith all acknowledged me, but were listening intently to their fellows bicker. I cleared my throat, loud enough to almost sound like a growl. It stopped the two of them mid-sentence and I raised my eyebrow.“If you want to continue, that’s fine, but I will leave.”“Sorry, Alpha. We are dealing with some contacts with the Council of Elders. They are being obstinate.” Elder Calum frowned. “We have different ideas on how to deal with them.”I covered my mouth through my yawn. “I don’t need to know

*** Silas POV ***Sitting on the back porch, I looked out into the forest behind us. I had a drink in my hand as my elbow rested on the wood arm of the outdoor lounge chair. Taking a sip, my lip curled up for a moment before it burned down my throat and sat warm in my stomach. My head was already feeling lighter as the sky boasted colors of pink, purple, orange, and yellow.Today had been hectic. Originally, we started rebuilding the school, thinking that we would have it done through the summer months and maybe into the school year for a couple of months. Nothing terrible and we could have the kids work around the construction.Three whole years it took to finally cut the ribbon. We’d run into every single kind of issue imaginable. Foundation was crumbling, plumbing wasn’t up to code and some roots from trees nowhere near the school had filled the pipes. There was an issue with
