Most everyone was gone. The forest had cleared out, and no one was standing in the same place during the ceremony. Some mulled around the forest still, but most scattered a while ago. Nate left my side, but it wasn’t far enough to not feel his emotions. The distance helped dull them and help me pick them apart from my own feelings. It was hard to do when he was close.Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out the pouch that I grabbed from the safe. I don’t know why I kept this after all these years. Father gave it to me. It was his ‘gift’ when I turned fifteen. As he explained to me what it did, I didn’t understand. When I became Alpha, after I watched him get exiled to the shack, Nate and I went through and burned just about everything. This was one of the few things I held back.Opening the purse, I pulled out a thick coin made of a blood-red ruby. However, the coin had an inscription in writing that I couldn’t read. The coin was perfectly balanced as I flipped it up and let it fall back

I slammed my fist into Wyatt’s stomach and he crumbled with his knees giving out. Pulling back, I sighed and rolled my shoulders. Ken and Dean were also nursing their wounds from our earlier bout. Shaking my head, I pulled Wyatt up from the floor, but he still curled over his stomach.“Alpha…I don’t think…any of us are a match for you.” Wyatt took some breaths in between his words. “Maybe…Beta would be…better…”Rolling my eyes, I let out a sigh. He wasn’t wrong. Except that Nate had been absolutely insufferable as of late. I thought we’d be able to go back to the way things were, but it was going to take some more time, apparently.“Beta is busy at the moment. You all should at least last a little longer. We need to ramp up training. I’m going to assign a new regimen and we are going to work harder.”There was a resounding ‘yes, alpha’ and I was happy to hear it. I expected complaints, especially given my plans. However, there was only so much they could say. At the end of the day, we

There was a knock on my door, and I stretched. Yesterday, after the shower, I decided not to go into the office. Instead, I laid down and slept off the pain. When I woke up this morning, I felt much better. My chest looked more like a scar again and it barely hurt. I still had my tablet in bed for a little while as I worked through my emails.“Silas, are you planning on getting up at some point today?”Shaking my head, I sighed. “How about you not question me, Beta? I’m getting work done. What are you doing?”There was a heavy sigh on the other side of the door before it opened. Nate had his hands crossed over his chest. I put down my tablet and raised my eyebrow.“I didn’t say you could come in.”“I haven’t come in. As you can see. I just opened the door.”Of course, he was going to start this today. I really wasn’t in the mood for it, either. Throwing off the blankets, I got up and stretched, my back cracking in a few places. I grimaced. Missing one day of running had its repercussi

I stared at Finn for a while. “I…yeah…she did…” My throat suddenly went dry. “She kept saying that she wasn’t meant for me. That I was meant for someone else.”“Are you?”“I…” My eyes fell to the mug in front of me.Finn put his hand on my arm. “Nate, I’m not going to berate you for having a new mate. Solaris had her reasons for acting and doing the things she did. Far beyond most of our capacity to understand. I just…I think I may know what’s going on with you. I just don’t want to scare you if that’s not the case.”Swallowing hard, Finn had my full attention now. “She told me there was another bond connected to me. One that was stronger and one that was my actual mate, not her. I didn’t want to believe her…”“A golden bond.”My eyes locked with Finn. “Yeah…she said it was like a golden braid or something like that. I just…I never understood until she broke the bond when she died. And…”“You met your true mate. Or at least t

Gasping, I bolted up. Sam was sitting on the edge of my bed and Charles was leaning on one of the stools I had for my arcade machines. Shep was also standing, and it looked like they were talking, but stopped as soon as I sat up. Immediately, my head pounded, and it was a hangover headache that was ten times worse.“You okay?” Sam rubbed my leg. “That was a lot.”Sighing, I took the medicine that Shep handed me and the glass of water on my nightstand. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like that. Let alone unleash it on someone else. What happened?”“Charles had to go in.” Sam looked up at his mate. “I could barely move and I was in my office. I’ve never felt that level of power from him, either. He didn’t care if he…” Sam stopped, biting his lip for a moment.“I had to give him my hardest right hook for him to let it go. I think for the first time in weeks I saw an actual emotion fill his face other than annoyed.” Charles sighing, crossing his arms over his chest. “I think he genuinel
