Dinner was at a farm-to-table place tucked down a side street that had a whole vegan menu. Rowan's eyes lit up when she saw it, the way they always did when a restaurant actually tried, and she ordered enough food to feed a small army while I did quiet math on whether the pack expense account covered this or whether I was paying out of pocket.

We split a bottle of wine and she grilled me about every detail of pack life I'd left out of our earlier conversations, which was most of it.

El. His voice in my head, strained. When I tell you — drive. Get Declan and Rowan out of here. Don't look back.I'm not leaving you! That's not a request. That's an order from your Alpha.Another body hit the car. This time, the door dented inward."Declan," I said. "When there's an opening—"The gunshot cracked through the chaos. Not a dart this time. A real bullet.Declan jerked, his hand flying to his shoulder. Blood bloomed through his shirt, spreading fast."Declan!""I'm fine—" But his face had gone gray. "Just a graze—"It wasn't a graze. I could see the hole, the way the blood was pumping out. He wouldn't last long without help.Fao! Declan's been shot!NOW, EL! DRIVE NOW!I didn't think. Just moved.I shoved open my door, ducking under a wolf that lunged for me, and yanked open the driver's side. "Ro! Help me get him in the back!"Rowan was already moving, scrambling over the seat to grab Declan under the arms. Between the two of us, we hauled him into the back seat. He groan

ELOWENFifteen minutes felt like fifteen hours. But they weren't content to just wait."Out of the car." The lead wolf rapped his knuckles against Declan's window. "All of you. Now."Declan didn't move. "The Luna stays where she is.""That wasn't a request." The wolf's smile turned sharp. "We can do this the easy way, or we can break every window and drag you out. Your choice."Through the bond, I felt Fao's presence burning closer. Ten minutes. Stall them. They want us out of the car.Don't let them separate you from Declan."Fine." I reached for the door handle before Declan could stop me. "I'll come out. But my friend stays in the car. She's human — she's got nothing to do with this.""El, no—" Rowan grabbed my arm."Trust me." I squeezed her hand, then stepped out into the cold mountain air.Immediately, two wolves flanked me. Not touching, but close enough that I could feel the heat radiating off them. Predators, barely leashed.Declan was out a second later, putting himself betw

We said goodbye to Park City as the sun started to set, Rowan chattering excitedly about her new cabin and all the things she wanted to do once she was settled in. Declan drove the rental car while Rowan and I sat in the back, her scrolling through her phone for the perfect road trip playlist while I watched the mountains roll past.Behind us, Bethany and Santos followed in the SUV. Close enough to be protective, far enough to look like normal traffic. The mountain road wound upward, trees pressing close on either side. Beautiful, in a wild kind of way. The kind of scenery that made you forget there was anything dangerous in the world. And then I felt it.A prickle at the back of my neck. The pack bond flaring with sudden alertness — Declan going tense in the driver's seat, Bethany and Santos spiking with alarm behind us."Declan?" I leaned forward. "What's wrong?""Three SUVs ahead." His voice was calm, but his knuckles were white on the steering wheel. "Black. Tinted windows. They'r

"That makes you like, queen of the wolves?""Not exactly. More like the Alpha's partner. I don't have authority over the pack, but I'm protected by it. I help where I can.""With the library.""With the library. The kids. Council meetings sometimes, when Fao wants my perspective on something.""That's actually really sweet." Rowan twirled her fork. "He values your opinion.""He does." The warmth of the bond pu

We spent the next few hours wandering Main Street — browsing boutiques, trying on ridiculous hats, eating too much chocolate at a fancy truffle shop. Declan and the others stayed close but invisible, just like they'd promised. I could feel them through the pack bond — calm, alert, present. It felt good. Safe."So," Rowan said as we settled onto a bench overlooking the mountains. "The rival wolf pack thing. How worried should I be?"I hesitated. "Honestly? I don't know. There's a woman — Seraphina Varen. Her family killed Fao's family when he was seven. She showed up a few weeks ago proposing a marriage alliance.""A what?""She wanted him to set me aside and marry her instead. For political reasons.""And what did Mr. Wolf-Man say to that?""He said no. Obviously." I picked at my coffee cup. "But she's not done. There have been wolves at the border — watching, testing. Something's coming. I can feel it."Rowan was quiet for a moment. "You're scared.""A little." I looked at her. "But

I burst into tears."Oh shit, you're crying, is that good crying or bad crying—"I launched myself at her, nearly knocking us both off our chairs. "You're moving here. You're going to be here. I'm going to see you every day.""Is that a yes? That sounds like a yes—""Yes! Of course yes!" I was laughing and crying at the same time. "You ridiculous human, of course I want you here!"Rowan hugged me back fiercely. "Good. Because the moving truck is already past Denver and I really didn't want to have to turn it around."Thank you. I sent through the bond, pouring every ounce of love and gratitude I had into the words. Alaric. Thank you.You deserve to have your family with you. His voice was warm, steady. Both of them."He's a good one," Rowan said, pulling back to look at me. "Your wolf-man. He really loves you.""I know." I wiped my eyes. "I really love him too.""Good. Now stop crying and buy me breakfast. We have a whole day in Park City before we head to my new home, and I want to c

ELOWENI was losing my mind. That was the only explanation. Stress, sleep deprivation, too much time alone in the woods — something had snapped in my brain, and now I was having a staring contest with a wolf the size of a small horse.Except I wasn't imagining it. I had photos. I had paw prints. I

ELOWENThe paw print was the size of my hand.I crouched at the bottom of the porch steps, phone out, taking picture after picture like documentation would somehow make this less terrifying. The morning light was gray and flat, washing out the details, so I grabbed a measuring tape from the junk dr

ROGUEShe closed the curtains. He stared at the cabin, at the windows that had always been open to him, now blocked by fabric. Dark shapes against the golden light inside, hiding her from view. Why?The question circled in his mind, chasing its own tail. She'd never done this before. Every night si
