Rosemary

I woke up with the urge to throw up again. Untangling myself from Ethan’s embrace, I quickly ran to the bathroom, feeling my stomach twist violently. After making sure I had emptied everything, I changed into fresh clothes and quietly sneaked out of the room. The air outside was cool, a stark contrast to the heaviness in my mind, and I found myself wandering through the pack’s grounds aimlessly.

As I entered the woods, the shadows of the trees stretched before me, illuminated by the soft glow of the moon. The silence of the night was almost comforting as I found a spot by a tree and began to undress. Shifting came quicker now, though the sensation still made my skin feel like it was aflame, and the cracking of my bones was something I hadn’t yet gotten used to. But once I stood on all fours, a sense of freedom surged through me. Being in my wolf form felt like stepping into a part of me I never knew was missing.

I started running, the wind rushing past my fur, my senses heightened by the cool night air. But something was off. I tried to connect with my wolf, expecting the conversation that Ethan had described - a bond, a sense of unity. Yet, all I heard was silence. It was disorienting. Even though I was physically a wolf, I felt alone in my mind.

After what felt like hours of running, my body felt lighter, but the emotional weight still clung to me. I returned to the tree where I had left my clothes and shifted back. As soon as I pulled my jeans on, nausea hit me again, and I doubled over, throwing up near the bushes.

I couldn’t ignore it anymore. Ethan had been right - I needed to see the pack doctor. Reluctantly, I made my way to the infirmary.

The building was quiet, and as I entered through the clear doors, a guard directed me to the third floor, where the on-call doctor worked. I found myself walking through a corridor filled with dark, empty offices. Knocking on the door labeled “Night Doctor,” a soft voice told me to come in.

Behind the desk sat a woman, probably just a few years older than me, with sandy curly hair and a freckled nose. She stood and gave me a slight bow. “Hello, Luna, how can I help you?”

I still wasn’t used to the title, but I let it slide. I took a seat and gestured for her to do the same. She introduced herself as Bella, the night shift doctor.

“I’ve been throwing up for a while now. At first, I thought it was nerves from my first shift, but it hasn’t stopped,” I explained, hoping for some clarity.

Bella nodded, thinking for a moment. “It’s rare for werewolves to get sick from common things like stomach bugs or food poisoning. When did you last experience your heat?”

“My what?” I asked, completely thrown off.

“Your heat,” she repeated gently. “The female reproductive system of werewolves doesn’t work like the human one. Instead, we go through a heat cycle, where our body temperature rises and our sexual drive increases. You might not have recognized the signs because you’re new to this world, but it’s a normal part of our reproductive system. I can assume you would think you had a fever if you didn’t know what was happening. Did you feel something like that recently?”

I blinked at her, utterly confused. “I can’t recall feeling like that. I’ve never had a period, and human doctors told me I couldn’t get pregnant. I grew up thinking I was infertile.”

Bella’s expression softened. “That might explain things, but your body works differently as a werewolf. If you didn’t use protection, there’s a chance you might be pregnant. Let’s run a blood test to be sure.”

Her words hit me like a sledgehammer. I had never imagined myself as a mother. After growing up in the foster system, I had promised myself that I would never bring a child into this world. I had been relieved when the doctors told me I couldn’t conceive. But the idea of pregnancy now, especially with everything going on, brought me to the edge of panic. Ethan and I didn’t use protection while having sex, but I didn’t use them while sleeping with humans, and I never had problems with that before.

I followed Bella to the nurse’s station, where a nurse took my blood for testing. The entire process felt surreal, like I was watching it happen from outside my body.

Back in Bella’s office, she explained that the results would be ready tomorrow after the lab technicians processed the samples.

“Thank you for your help,” I said, my voice quieter than I expected. “Please, can you keep this between us for now? I’d like to process it before anyone else knows.”

“Of course, Luna. This stays between us,” she promised.

As I walked out of the building, the first hints of sunrise broke through the horizon. Normally, I would find comfort in the sight of a new day, a fresh start. But all I felt was a sinking sense of despair.

I couldn’t shake the weight of uncertainty that now hung over me.

RosemaryIn the early afternoon, I received a mind-link from Dr. Bella asking me to come to the hospital wing. All day, my mind had been spinning with the possibility of being pregnant, and the concept of becoming a mother. The thought terrified me. I had never had a role model for a loving family, and the idea of creating one of my own felt foreign, almost impossible. The doctors had once told me I couldn’t have children, and I had accepted that. It felt like a decision had been made for me, a choice I never had to face. But now? I wasn’t sure if I was more scared or excited - or both.On the way to the infirmary, Ethan caught up with me. I tried to keep things casual, dodging his concern.“I’m just checking this stomach bug,” I said with a forced smile. “Nothing serious.”“Okay, love,” he replied, his eyes soft with concern. “Just let me know if you need anything.”I nodded as he turned and walked toward his office. Her warmth, her presence - it was all that allowed me to truly rest. But when I knocked on her door, there was no answer. I tried again. Still nothing.A strange unease crept into my chest. I turned the handle and opened the door to find the room cold and dark. A quick glance revealed the impromptu art studio she’d been using was untouched. Something wasn’t right. Rosemary“That concludes today’s lesson,” the professor stated flatly, his voice mirroring the bland fluorescent lights.I didn’t wait for him to finish packing up his notes before I started shoving my things into my bag. The room felt stuffy, the faint buzz of whispered conversations around me pressing against my skull. This was my last class of the day, and I was already half out the door in my mind, worrying about the pending financial management exam and the gnawing question of whether I’d make rent this month. The hallway was crowded, a steady stream of students brushing past me, their chatter a dull hum in the background. I was halfway to the exit when a familiar hand caught my shoulder, the touch light but insistent.“Hey, where are you going?” Nathaniel’s voice, a casual tone hinting at a smile, rose above the surrounding noise.I turned to face him, forcing a small grin. “Heading home. Last class of the day.”“Wanna grab a bite?”The offer caught me mid-step. My brain immedia

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 2

RosemaryWhen I was five, they found me wandering barefoot and alone on the edge of a highway. My small hands were sticky with blood, but it wasn’t mine. I didn’t cry, didn’t speak. The only thing I could remember was my name. The police said I was silent the entire ride to the station, staring out the window like I was looking for something. Someone. But I don’t remember any of that. All I remember are flashes: the chill of the pavement under my feet, the red and blue lights flickering like fireflies, the way every adult seemed afraid to meet my gaze. They took me to an orphanage that night, the first of many. I think it was run by a church. Although my memories of that time are now hazy and indistinct, certain details remain strikingly clear: the cold, gray stone walls of the building which felt less like a home and more like a prison, the peculiar odor of candle wax mingling with the scent of aged wood, and the hushed tones of the nuns as they offered their nightly prayers while tu

RosemaryNathaniel and I chatted as we nursed our drinks, one after the other. I’ve always had a good tolerance, and Nathaniel liked to joke that I drank booze like fish drink water. His words made me smirk, though my mind drifted back to the stranger who’d been watching me earlier. His intense gaze had stuck with me, sending a shiver down my spine that I couldn’t shake.Just as Nathaniel leaned in to ask me how I’d done on our last test, a scream pierced through the loud music, making both of us freeze. The club seemed to fall into an uneasy silence for a split second before the noise returned, and everyone ran. I glanced toward the entrance, and my heart dropped when I saw the stranger approaching, his face tight with urgency.“Nate, did you see something?” he demanded, his voice sharp as his eyes flicked from Nathaniel to me.Nathaniel sighed, rolling his eyes. “Ethan, how many times have I told you not to call me Nate? You know I hate that.”“That’s highly irrelevant right now!” E

But I could feel her voice in my head, cold and commanding.Get me that heart. Her words echo through my mind, and a knot tightens in my chest. Being an underling for this arrogant but powerful witch is a small price to pay for my freedom. I’ll do what she asks. I always do.I watched as a couple bypassed the long line and strolled inside. I could feel them - they were wolves, or at least one of them was. But they weren’t my concern. Nothing will stop me tonight.Impatience thrummed through me as the bouncer lazily let people in, one by one. It felt like an eternity, but finally, I slipped past the threshold and into the club’s pulsing chaos. RosemaryI woke up with a jolt, the sensation of warmth and weight pressing against my shoulder. It took me a moment to realize my head was resting against someone. I sat up too quickly, and my forehead bumped against Ethan’s. I winced as he shifted slightly, barely acknowledging the impact. Did I sleep the whole time on his shoulder? I glanced down at my phone, and it was 6 a.m. The pale light of dawn crept over the horizon, casting a soft glow through the trees outside the window. We were surrounded by forest, endless and unfamiliar.“Where are we?” I asked, my voice thick with grogginess.“We’re heading to my childhood home,” Nathaniel replied, his tone casual, like that’s a perfectly normal explanation. But nothing about this felt normal anymore.I turned back to the window, watching as we drove for another hour, and the dense trees gave way to something more structured - a gate. A massive iron gate loomed ahead as Nathaniel nodded to a guard who opened it without question. As we

I lean against the bathroom door as she’s rinsing her face.“Are you okay? I thought yesterday was just nerves,” I said gently, concern lacing my voice.“I thought so, too. Probably just a stomach bug,” she replied, her voice weak.“Maybe you should see a pack doctor,” I suggested, trying to hide my worry.“I’ll go if it’s the same tomorrow,” she concedes.I walk over to the bed, sit down, and pat the spot beside me. She joins me, resting her head on my shoulder. There’s something so vulnerable in her right now, and I instinctively wrap an arm around her.“So… did you talk to Nathaniel?” she asked softly.“Yeah, everything’s okay now.”“Good, I’m glad,” she said, relief in her voice.I kiss her forehead gently, enjoying the closeness between us. “I wanted to talk to you about last night. EthanSitting in my office, I focus on the bond with Nathaniel and Dylan, reaching out to them through the pack’s mind-link. Nathaniel arrives first, his posture rigid, clearly bracing for whatever conversation awaits. I can see the weight of guilt pulling at him before he even speaks.“Ethan, I want to apologize,” he starts, but I hold up my hand, cutting him off.“We’ll talk about that later. Right now, I need to know if my mate is in danger.” My tone leaves no room for further discussion.Nathaniel swallows hard, like he wants to say something more, but thinks better of it. Silence falls between us, tense and unspoken. A few minutes later, Dylan arrives, his usual light-hearted energy absent as he sits down.“Well, tell me what you found,” I prompt.Nathaniel takes a breath, gathering his thoughts. “You won’t like it. We went to the murder scene, and it reeked of the minions’ scent. We found out more about the victim, too - he was a rogue, a former pack member in the US. He betraye

But it’s not a scream of pain - it’s something else, something more primal.I turn to her, who’s sitting upright beside me, her eyes glowing with that eerie purple hue that sends shivers down my spine every time. Her lips curled into a slow, satisfied smile.“What happened?” I ask.“She’s awakened,” she said, her voice a low purr. “I can feel her wolf.”I grit my teeth, anticipation flooding through me. “So, why are we waiting? Let’s go get her. We already have the other two.”But she remains calm, her smile fading into something more measured, calculated. “No,” she said softly, her tone almost mocking. “She’s not complete yet. Part of her is still missing.”I huff in frustration, my patience wearing thin. “This b*tch definitely takes her time.”Her eyes flickered toward me, the purple glow intensifying for a moment as she st

The moon’s almost at its peak.” His voice was sharp, but I could hear the weight behind his words.“Why did you leave Nathaniel hanging like that?” I pressed, still confused by what had just happened.“It’s a conversation for another day, Rose. You’re going to miss your chance if we don’t move.”I nodded, understanding the urgency, though the tension in the air was thick. We reach Amber’s house, and she’s already outside, standing still, holding a glass bottle in her hand. The gravity of the moment settles on my chest like a weight I can’t shake.“Let’s go. We don’t have much time,” Amber said, her voice calm but resolute. We follow her back to the clearing, where everyone else is already waiting - silent, expectant. After our third round, Liam and I had marked each other, finally sealing our mate bond, making everything official. Even now, I can feel the new bite mark on my neck tingling, a constant reminder of what we now share.“Are you nervous?” Liam asked, his voice soft as we walked side by side.I let out a bitter laugh. “About coming out to my entire family and friends, or the possibility that one of my best friends could die tonight? Yeah, a huge yes to both.”Liam stops walking and pulls me into an embrace, his arms wrapping around me like he’s trying to shield me from everything. “Everything will be alright,” he murmured. “You’ll see.”We held each other for a long moment, his warmth steadying me, but eventually, we parted and continued walking toward Amber’s house. When we arrive, the wooded area behind her home is already filled with the others - Mer, Ethan, Dylan, Grace. They’re all waiting, th
