Nathaniel

I closed the door to Mer’s room, the soft click of the lock echoing in the stillness. The master key felt heavy in my hand as I lingered momentarily, staring at the door. She was locked away, just as Ethan asked. Part of me hated doing this to her, but another part knew there was no other way. Not now. Not with everything that was at stake.

I sighed and headed up to the fifth floor, where Ethan’s smaller office loomed at the end of a long hallway. My footsteps were the only sound, a stark contrast to the swirling thoughts in my mind. Reaching the door, I knocked once, and after a beat, I hear a low, measured, “Come in.”

I pushed the door open and stepped inside. Ethan was seated behind his massive mahogany desk, the dim light from the windows casting shadows across his face. His presence always commanded attention - he’s the Alpha of the “Silver Dawn” pack, after all. One of the largest packs in North America, and I, his Beta, second-in-command, and best friend, have stood by his side for years.

“I locked Rosemary in her room, just as you asked,” I said, feeling a tightness in my chest as I spoke her name.

“Good,” Ethan replied, his tone steady. He gestured to the chair in front of him. “Beta, please sit down.”

I took a seat across from him, trying to relax, but the weight of the last 24 hours had settled heavily on my shoulders. I exhaled slowly before speaking. “Ethan… is she really your mate?”

Ethan leaned back in his chair, his dark blue eyes meeting mine with an intensity that was hard to describe. “Yes,” he said, his voice softer now. “I felt the pull of the mate bond the second you guys walked into the club. It was undeniable.”

I nodded, though it still felt surreal. Ethan, the Alpha who had spent years without a mate, had finally found her in the most unexpected way. The pack’s elders had been on his back for years, insisting that an Alpha without a mate was a weakness, an anomaly. At 28, it was unheard of for someone like Ethan to remain unmated. But he waited. Waited because the pack’s oracle had told him that his mate was out somewhere, though she couldn’t reveal her name or appearance. I also didn’t have a mate, but for a different reason than his. I found my mate the day I turned 18 and gained my wolf, but I haven’t accepted my mate yet.

“I was sent to that college four years ago to look for her,” I said, my voice a little quieter now, remembering the moment I first saw Mer. “But I didn’t know it was her at first. I just felt this… pull. I didn’t realize she was your mate until that day you picked me up from college.”

Ethan’s expression tightened slightly, remembering the moment. “I knew she was close the second I arrived,” he said. “I could smell her. I could feel the bond, but I didn’t know who she was. It wasn’t until I saw her with you outside the gate that I realized.”

Ethan confided in me four years ago that the pack’s oracle, Amber, knew where his mate was but not her name and looks, so he sent me to her whereabouts, a college in New York, to look for her. I felt an instant pull toward Mer, but didn’t immediately know she was his mate. One day, Ethan came to pick me up from college to attend a business meeting with him. I remember that day vividly; Mer and I had been walking out of the campus gates, laughing about something trivial. I said my goodbyes and walked toward Ethan, who was waiting for me. His posture had stiffened, his face drawn with tension. He knew. That’s why I brought her to the nightclub last night. I needed Ethan to be sure.

“When I saw the way you looked at her last night, I knew. I knew you had found her.” I let out a small breath. “I’m surprised you didn’t jump on her right there.”

Ethan chuckled, but there was a restraint in his voice. “Believe me, it wasn’t easy. The mate bond, it’s… intense. All I wanted to do was claim her right then and there. But I couldn’t. Not with everything going on.”

I nodded in understanding. The mate bond was powerful, all-consuming. I remember how it felt when I first met my own mate. The urge to be with them, to bond in every way, was overwhelming. But I hadn’t accepted them - not yet. I didn’t reject them, either. I was still figuring things out, but Ethan didn’t have the luxury of time like I did. He had waited so long for this moment.

“When I came back from the bathroom last night and saw Amber talking to Mer, I was surprised,” I admitted. “I didn’t know she had come with you.”

Ethan frowned slightly, leaning forward. “Amber has her reasons for being discreet. She sensed the danger before I did. When we heard the scream… I knew it was one of Andromeda’s minions. They’ve been hunting for witches from powerful bloodlines.”

I nodded grimly. “I knew it was them, too. I made sure Mer was safe with you before I went to check it out. All I found was a bloody woman, dead on the floor. No pulse, no breathing. Andromeda’s minions got to her first.” The memory of that scene, the woman’s lifeless body on the ground, flashed in my mind. I’ve seen death before, but it’s never easy.

“I dealt with the cops and paramedics,” I continued. “After all, it is one of our clubs. Everything is cleaned up now, and we’re in the clear. Alpha, I am thrilled for you. I know how much you wanted to find her.”

Ethan nodded, “Thank you, Nate. It means a lot to me.”

“Please,” I said, exasperated, “I’m begging you. Stop calling me Nate.”

He chuckled, the tension in the room lifting slightly. “Fine, fine. Just don’t bite me.”

I rolled my eyes, but a small smile pulled at my lips. We’d been through so much together, Ethan and I. He was like a brother to me, and I knew the weight of finding his mate had been a heavy burden on his shoulders. But there was still so much more to deal with.

I was just not too fond of this nickname: Nate. Only my mate got to call me like that.

“Have you told Dylan yet?” I asked, shifting the topic.

Ethan shook his head. “Not yet. He’s still on that business trip. He’s been gone for three weeks now.”

I nodded. Dylan, our third in command, had been away for weeks on pack business. He’d need to be filled in soon. But right now, there are more pressing matters.

“We’ll need to get Grace to take Mer shopping,” I said, thinking ahead. “She didn’t bring any clothes, and I’m not exactly an expert in that department. I’ll go with them, but I can’t do it alone. I’ll go mad.”

“You’re right,” Ethan said, leaning back in his chair. “But first, we need to explain to her why she’s here. Why all of this is happening.”

“And are you going to tell her she’s your mate?” I asked carefully.

Ethan’s expression hardened. “No. Not yet. She doesn’t need to know about that right now. We’ll start by telling her about what happened to her parents. She probably doesn’t remember them. And then we’ll tell her about Andromeda.”

I nodded, understanding the weight of his decision. It’s not just about claiming his mate. It’s about protecting her from the storm that’s coming. Andromeda, the dark witch, is no minor threat.

“Yes, Alpha,” I said, my voice steady. There was a lot ahead of us, but for now, all we could do was prepare.

RosemaryI woke up in a strange room, blinking against the soft morning light filtering through the curtains. For a moment, I wondered if I was still dreaming. Everything around me felt unfamiliar - the bed, the sheets, even the air. It all felt wrong. I sat up, rubbing my eyes, trying to shake off the fog in my mind. That’s when it hit me, a flood of memories from last night crashing over me like icy water.I glanced around, searching for my phone, and found it on the nightstand. The screen was dark - dead battery. Of course. I rummaged through the drawer next to the bed and found a charger, plugging it in before heading to the bathroom. I was already undressed, my clothes discarded somewhere in my exhaustion. As I stepped through the door, I was taken aback by the sheer size of the bathroom. A massive Jacuzzi took up one corner, next to a glass-enclosed shower that looked big enough to fit several people. Two marble sinks gleamed under the soft lighting.I slipped into the shower, l

RosemaryI woke up in the same bedroom as before, my head pounding like someone was taking a sledgehammer to my brain. Groaning, I sat up, pressing my palms against my temples, trying to ease the throbbing pain. Everything felt heavy, as if the weight of last night’s revelations had settled into my bones. As I blinked the fog from my eyes, I noticed Nathaniel sitting in a chair in the room’s corner, his posture tense, as though he’d been waiting for me to wake up.“You’re up,” he said, his voice soft, filled with concern. “How are you feeling?”“Like I drank 10 gallons of tequila,” I muttered, rubbing my temples. The pounding in my head made it hard to think straight, let alone process everything that had been thrown at me the night before.Nathaniel laughed, the sound warm but tinged with nervousness. “I stayed with you all night. I was worried.”His words hit me like a punch in the gut. Worried? He should be concerned, alright. Everything I’d been told last night felt like some twis

Rosemary“So, I’m a werewolf as well?” I asked, my voice shaky, trying to make sense of the impossible. After watching Nathaniel transform before my eyes, my mind buzzed with a thousand questions, none of which seemed to have simple answers. This wasn’t something you could just accept.Nathaniel sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Yes, technically. But your wolf is asleep right now. It’s been that way since you were young.”“Asleep? Like, what does that even mean?” I muttered, still trying to wrap my head around the idea that there was… a wolf inside me, somehow.“Yeah, I know it’s a lot to take in,” he replied gently. “It’ll take time for everything to sink in, but you don’t need to understand it all at once. Right now, we should get you some clothes. You can’t keep wearing Grace’s stuff forever.”I glanced down at the outfit I had on - the tight shorts and low-cut top that made me feel like I was wearing someone else’s skin. It was hard not to feel out of place, as if I didn’t

EthanI descended the stairs, greeting the staff with brief nods as I made my way through the pack house. My mind was elsewhere, buzzing with thoughts of the past days, the weight of it all pressing on me. When I finally stepped outside, the crisp air hit my skin, grounding me in the present. I turned left and headed toward the nearest tree line, the familiar pull of the forest calling me. I needed a release, something to clear my head, and only one thing could do that.I stripped off my clothes, folding them neatly at the base of a tree before shifting. The change came quickly, bones cracking and reforming, fur sprouting as my wolf took over. It had been too long since I let him out, and I could feel his joy, his freedom, through our bond. The sensation was immediate - a rush of energy, raw and untamed. I sprinted through the forest, the trees blurring past as I let my instincts take over. My paws pounded the earth as I raced beyond the lake, heading for the farthest corner of the pr

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 11

RosemaryThe following day, I found myself sitting at the breakfast table with Nathaniel and Grace. The soft chatter of pack members filled the room, everyone greeting each other, exchanging pleasantries. My plate of food sat mostly untouched in front of me, but my attention wasn’t on it. I couldn’t stop staring at Ethan, who just walked in.There was something about him, something magnetic. I tried to be discreet, but I knew he noticed how my eyes flicked toward him. I could feel his gaze on me, too, intense and lingering. It was like there was this unspoken tension between us I didn’t understand, and yet, I couldn’t look away.Around us, I could hear pack members murmuring, “Good morning, Alpha,” as they passed by, nodding respectfully in his direction. Ethan took his seat next to Nathaniel, and soon the two of them were deep in conversation, discussing things that, to my surprise, sounded a lot like business.I couldn’t help myself. “Did I hear you guys talking about a company?” I

EthanAfter what I saw in the showers, my chest felt tight with an anger I had no right to feel. I should’ve walked away sooner, should’ve known better than to linger, but the image of Rosemary with someone else, so free, so wild, kept replaying in my mind. She doesn’t know; I reminded myself. She doesn’t feel the bond yet, doesn’t even realize what she means to me, and yet, the jealousy twisted in my gut, hot and irrational. She’s my mate. Mine.I couldn’t get the thought out of my head, even though it was unfair, even though it wasn’t my place to be angry. She didn’t know. How could she? She hadn’t even sensed her wolf yet, and I slept with Amber recently. I had no claim on her. Even so, my wolf growled in frustration, clawing at the edges of my control. I felt like I was on the verge of breaking something, anything, just to release the tension.I was heading up the stairs to the fifth floor, determined to cool off in my room, when a hand suddenly grabbed my shoulder. RosemaryI wasn’t entirely sure what had just happened between Ethan and me, but the moment felt unfinished, as if we had reached some invisible line. Then, he bolted, leaving me there with more questions than answers. When he had come so close, I thought for a moment, hoped, maybe, that he might kiss me. But then he turned away, and the connection between us dissolved as quickly as it had sparked. Was it just the lingering rush of hormones from earlier, or was there something more?Either way, I didn’t want to dwell on it. Not now.Feeling restless, I went back to my room. The weight of everything I’d been through in the past week pressed down on me. It had only been a few days, but it felt like years had passed since my world had been turned upside down. I lay on the bed, mindlessly scrolling through my phone for hours. Eventually, I noticed the missed calls, unread texts - all from Nathaniel, checking in, ensuring I was okay. I glanced at the last message:Headed away to dinner. I’

EthanI woke up just before dawn, the room still wrapped in the soft darkness of early morning. Rosemary lay beside me, her breathing steady, her body relaxed in sleep. For a moment, I just watched her, the peaceful rise and fall of her chest, the way her hair spilled across the pillow like fire. She looked so beautiful, so vulnerable, and it struck me just how much I wanted to protect her - to be the one she trusted, the one she turned to.But I knew what we had done last night had been a mistake. Not because I didn’t want her, Goddess, I wanted her more than anything, but because I hadn’t told her the truth. The truth about the mate bond, about what we were to each other. She didn’t know, and yet, I had crossed a line. My wolf had been pushing me ever since she arrived, demanding that I claim her, that I acknowledge her as mine. The mate bond was too powerful, too overwhelming for either of us to ignore for much longer. And last night, when I looked into her eyes, I couldn’t resist

DylanA strange quiet was settled over the pack, the kind that didn’t bring peace. It was the calm before the storm, the air thick with tension as we all waited for Andromeda to make her move. No one said it outright, but I knew everyone could feel it - like a predator circling, just out of sight. I had been in enough battles to know that this kind of stillness isn’t natural; it’s calculated. And if I could feel it, I knew Ethan did, too.Ethan’s always carried the pack’s weight on his shoulders, but lately, it has been different. There was a heaviness in him that wasn’t there before, like he was wrestling with shadows I couldn’t see. I was used to his relentless work ethic, the way he poured himself into every detail of running this pack. But it was more than that now. He was pushing himself harder, training with a single-minded intensity that would be impressive if it weren’t so worrying. I didn’t think he had slept a whole night in weeks.Last week, I caught him out in the training

RosemaryIt had been four months since that night by the creek, the night I drank Amber’s potion, sealing away a choice I didn’t fully understand. I hadn’t dared return to that spot - not even once. The memory of it haunted me, the way the moon had hung so heavily, casting an eerie glow on the water as I swallowed the bitter liquid that was supposed to end everything. Since that night, I had felt different, altered in some intangible way, as though I had stepped into a shadow that followed me everywhere, clinging to my skin.My body betrayed me daily. Fatigue sank deep into my bones, the kind of exhaustion that sleep could never touch. No matter how many hours I slept, I always woke feeling as if I’d been carrying a weight all night. Even the simplest tasks left me winded, my muscles ached as though I’d run for miles. Every step felt heavy, as if invisible chains weighed down my feet. Something was wrong, and yet, I couldn’t find the will to question it. I had made a decision that nig

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 45

RosemaryThe night of the full moon arrived, and I brewed the tea Amber had given me in a thermos, the bitter herbs swirling together like an ink-stained solution to all the chaos swirling inside me. As I stepped out into the cool night, I felt the familiar pull of my wolf, that instinctive desire to shift under the full moon, to let go and run wild through the forest. The urge was powerful, stronger than ever before, but I couldn’t give in tonight. Not until this was done. The moon hung high in the sky, bathing the woods in silver light, casting shadows that danced as I made my way to the creek I had found on my first shift. It was fitting, I thought, to return to the place where I had first felt the raw power of my wolf - where I had first realized what I truly was. But tonight wasn’t about connecting with my wolf. It was about taking back control.I arrived at the creek, the air cool and crisp against my skin. I sat beneath the familiar tree, the same tree that had given me comfort

RosemaryThe heavy fog in my brain slowly began to lift. It was like clawing my way out of a deep, suffocating pit, but eventually, I found my way back to consciousness. My body felt weak, like I had been wrung out and left to dry. My throat felt raw, as if I had swallowed sand, and when I tried to speak, no sound came out. My eyelids fluttered open, but the light was too bright, stabbing into my eyes, forcing me to shut them again.I tried again, this time more slowly. As my vision cleared, I saw him - Ethan. He was sitting in a chair right next to the bed, his head resting on the edge of the mattress. His face was peaceful, his chest rising and falling softly as he slept. A faint snore escaped his lips. Even in sleep, he looked so protective, so close.I didn’t want to wake him, but I shifted just enough to make him stir. His eyes opened immediately, concern flashing across his face the moment he saw me awake.“Rose, you’re awake!” His voice was filled with a mixture of relief and a

EthanI sat beside her hospital bed, my heart pounding in my chest. The cold, sterile atmosphere of the hospital was suffocating. The rhythmic beeping of the machines was the only sound breaking the silence, but all I could focus on was her - Rose, lying there, looking so small, so fragile. This wasn’t her. The woman I knew was a firestorm, full of life and strength. But now, her skin was pale, her lips cracked, and she looked like she was made of glass, ready to shatter at any moment.I leaned forward, brushing a strand of hair from her face. Her skin felt cool to the touch, much too cold. A lump formed in my throat as I struggled to contain the rising fear. I had never felt so helpless. I, the Alpha, the one who always had to be strong, was now at the mercy of fate - waiting, hoping, praying.Where had I gone wrong? How could I not have known? I replayed the last few weeks in my head over and over. Maybe I should have noticed she was more tired than usual. Maybe I should have stoppe

EthanAfter a long, exhausting day in the office, all I wanted was to crawl into bed next to Rose. Being near her had become something I couldn’t live without. Her warmth, her presence - it was all that allowed me to truly rest. But when I knocked on her door, there was no answer. I tried again. Still nothing.A strange unease crept into my chest. I turned the handle and opened the door to find the room cold and dark. A quick glance revealed the impromptu art studio she’d been using was untouched. Something wasn’t right. I decided to wait for her, assuming she’d show up soon, and sat down on the bed, scrolling through work emails on my phone. Slowly, exhaustion won, and I drifted into an uneasy sleep.A while later, I stirred awake. The room was still dark, and her side of the bed remained untouched. Panic started to gnaw at me. A quick glance at my phone told me it was 2 a.m. I tried to link Rose through the pack-link, but there was no response. I tried again. Still nothing. The knot

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 41

RosemaryIn the early afternoon, I received a mind-link from Dr. Bella asking me to come to the hospital wing. All day, my mind had been spinning with the possibility of being pregnant, and the concept of becoming a mother. The thought terrified me. I had never had a role model for a loving family, and the idea of creating one of my own felt foreign, almost impossible. The doctors had once told me I couldn’t have children, and I had accepted that. It felt like a decision had been made for me, a choice I never had to face. But now? I wasn’t sure if I was more scared or excited - or both.On the way to the infirmary, Ethan caught up with me. I tried to keep things casual, dodging his concern.“I’m just checking this stomach bug,” I said with a forced smile. “Nothing serious.”“Okay, love,” he replied, his eyes soft with concern. “Just let me know if you need anything.”I nodded as he turned and walked toward his office. Watching him disappear, I felt a pang of guilt. When I arrived at t

RosemaryI woke up with the urge to throw up again. Untangling myself from Ethan’s embrace, I quickly ran to the bathroom, feeling my stomach twist violently. After making sure I had emptied everything, I changed into fresh clothes and quietly sneaked out of the room. The air outside was cool, a stark contrast to the heaviness in my mind, and I found myself wandering through the pack’s grounds aimlessly. As I entered the woods, the shadows of the trees stretched before me, illuminated by the soft glow of the moon. The silence of the night was almost comforting as I found a spot by a tree and began to undress. Shifting came quicker now, though the sensation still made my skin feel like it was aflame, and the cracking of my bones was something I hadn’t yet gotten used to. But once I stood on all fours, a sense of freedom surged through me. Being in my wolf form felt like stepping into a part of me I never knew was missing.I started running, the wind rushing past my fur, my senses heigh

I lean against the bathroom door as she’s rinsing her face.“Are you okay? I thought yesterday was just nerves,” I said gently, concern lacing my voice.“I thought so, too. Probably just a stomach bug,” she replied, her voice weak.“Maybe you should see a pack doctor,” I suggested, trying to hide my worry.“I’ll go if it’s the same tomorrow,” she concedes.I walk over to the bed, sit down, and pat the spot beside me. She joins me, resting her head on my shoulder. There’s something so vulnerable in her right now, and I instinctively wrap an arm around her.“So… did you talk to Nathaniel?” she asked softly.“Yeah, everything’s okay now.”“Good, I’m glad,” she said, relief in her voice.I kiss her forehead gently, enjoying the closeness between us. “I wanted to talk to you about last night.
