The morning after they made love, as she woke up, Mikki didn’t even have to open her eyes to know that Max was not there anymore. She could feel that his side of the bed was cold and his scent was fading slowly away from the room.

She didn’t dare to move for a moment, going over the memories of the previous night, when she finally gave herself up to Max entirely, in every possible way there was. She had never felt so good in her life.

Max made her feel loved, desired, like there was no one else in the world that he wanted to be with other than her. But as the day passed and there was no sign of him at the mansion, not even a single note or a phone call, Mikki started to wonder what the previous night had meant for him, for them.

And as the night came and she had dinner alone again, she decided to go to bed early and simply ignore Max for the next few days. He should know that this wasn’t the way to treat her after the moment they shared. She thought he’d be more kind and lovable towar

“Mikki, come on. You’re late for the meeting,” Fitz said as soon as she crossed the gates of the palace. “That's how you plan on convincing the council that you’re up to the task?” “Shh… Fitz, please. I’m already nervous enough. I don’t need you to cause me a heart attack now,” she said breathless as she ran towards the meeting room. It was going to be her third meeting with the council, the second one after she presented her application to occupy the vacated spot that the spy left when he ran away. The council had urgency to fill the abandoned spot, they couldn’t have an empty chair for too long, since they risked having a weak and discredited system.Six months passed since Mikki confronted the Dark Witch at Tane Forest, and that seemed to have impressed a lot of the members. And when Mikki came to show her interest in being part of it, a lot of them seemed excited to have a young royal woman to shake things up a bit.Others didn’t seem as delighted though, and Mikki guessed they

Calli was right. Max wasn’t injured because of his trade with the Dark Witch. Whatever they had discussed, it wasn’t it. His coma wasn’t a consequence of that. She knew that now, as she stared at him coming in her direction, with her brother by his side. He looked fine. Mikki scanned him with her eyes, trying to find any trace of a wound or injury, but there was nothing. He didn’t have it before, she knew that. He was simply sleeping. And she couldn’t check inside of his head to see if there was still anything wrong with it.But Max didn’t seem to be suffering from any post traumatic effect. “Max, what… How are you here?” she whispered, but Max’s arms wrapped her in a tight hug, almost leaving her breathless. Ace came right after him and smiled at her gently, but turned to look at the Dark Witch almost immediately, prepared for any sudden attack.“Mikki, are you ok?” She heard Max asking her, but her mind was confused. What was happening? How were they here? “Yes, I am. But how ar

“Mikki, I didn’t think you were going to be so straightforward. I mean, she seemed to be pretty powerful, don’t you think? Weren’t you scared?” Fitz asked her as soon as they crossed the invisible barrier of the Enchanted Forest. Mikki could feel her cheeks burning with shame, but she didn’t look back once. She knew she had been very aggressive towards the Silver Witch, and she couldn’t even begin to explain what came over her.“I don’t need someone to judge me now, Fitz. I’m already doing it to myself, thank you,” she retorted bitterly.“Why are you being so rude? We’re all trying to help you here, but you don’t seem to want help,” Fitz scolded her, and Mikki bit her lips angrily.“I know, alright? I don’t know what’s going on with me. I’m just… so stressed,” she explained. “I didn’t want to be rude to her. Or you. I’m just scared, Fitz. We came all the way here for nothing, I don’t know what to do,” Mikki choked on her cry.Fitz’s expression seemed to turn softer at her. He came ove

Max felt an enormous pain on his head as he opened his eyes and saw the light coming from the window. He blinked a few times, trying to get used to the sudden brightness that came in.His body wasn’t sore or anything, but it took a while for his mind to adjust and remind him of what happened and why he was laying on his bed in the palace. He looked around, wanting to ask someone what happened, but there was no one. He tried to get up, but the dizziness was too much for him to handle.Max cursed and laid back down against the pillow and rubbed his temples, forcing his brain to be helpful. And within the next minutes, everything came back as an avalanche of images and events. He remembered the attack from Farkas on his wedding ceremony, he remembered him coming to Mikki and exchanging the bites with her, and then… He felt a sharp pain on his side and on his head, and everything went dark. How could he have fainted at that moment? He was an Alpha, a very strong one. A simple hit like th

They followed the fairy around for a few miles. At some point, they walked past what Mikki thought to be an invisible barrier, and suddenly everything changed. The forest they were at before was now completely different. Mikki couldn’t explain, but from Fitz gasping by her side, she knew she wasn’t imagining things. The place was now filled with color, animals, flying shining creatures just like the fairy that was guiding them. It felt like she was staring at a fantasy world, the ones she saw a few times in movies. It was breathtaking.“Wow,” she murmured. “This place is… incredibly beautiful. How come we never heard of it?” she asked no one in particular. But the fairy seemed willing to answer her curious questions.“Not everyone can come to the Enchanted Forest. It’s a part of our world that only the chosen ones can see.”Mikki glanced at Fitz, who shrugged, and went back to the fairy.“Chosen ones?” she asked.“You hold the power of the Moon now. Many came before you. Not all, but q

She turned her head so fast that her neck actually snapped. Her brother was staring at her, arms folded across his chest, raised brows studying her as if she had just been caught doing something wrong. Which she actually had.How did Fitz find her? How did he even know that she was out of the castle?“What are you doing here?” she asked, trying to get some time to think of a plausible excuse. Although, if she was being really honest with herself, it was nearly impossible. She had a backpack with her, and he caught her escaping from the palace in the shadows like some kind of criminal.“I could ask you the same question, don’t you think? What the hell are you planning on doing?” Fitz retorted, still at the same place. He didn’t move, he only stood there, examining her, waiting to see if Mikki was going to be stupid enough to try to run away from him. He was a Beta, and a very fast one. There was no way she could simply run away from him without being caught a few steps later.“I’m goin
