The morning sun broke over the jagged peaks of the Shadowfang territory, casting long, crimson-hued shadows across the grand stone fortress. Inside her quarters, Aria stood before a tall arched mirror, buttoning the high-collared, dark tunic Silas had provided. The fabric was tailored, heavy, and trimmed with dark silver thread that shimmered like liquid moonlight whenever she moved.

She slid the rune-carved dagger Silas had given her into the concealed sheath at her waist. The weight of the steel against her ribs was a solid, comforting reminder of the choice she had made the night before. She was no longer running. She was stepping into the arena.

A firm knock echoed against the heavy oak door.

"Enter," Aria called out, adjusting the silver cuffs of her sleeves.

Silas stepped into the room, dressed in the formal, obsidian-armored regalia of the Sovereign Alpha. His presence was imposing, radiating an undeniable pressure that made the very air in the corridor hum with latent power. His eyes swept over her, a slow, appreciative gleam warming his usually cold golden gaze.

"You look like you belong in a fortress, not an exile's cabin," Silas said, stopping a few paces from her.

"I feel like I'm wearing armor," Aria replied, turning to face him fully. "Which I suppose is appropriate, considering where we are going."

"The Alpha Council is not a place of diplomacy, Aria. It is a pit of wolves vying for dominance," Silas warned, his tone dropping into a grave seriousness. "Julian will be there representing Blood Moon, arrogant as ever. He will try to intimidate you. He will try to claim that you are still bound to his pack by old ties."

Aria met his gaze without flinching. "Let him try. He severed those ties the moment he left me to freeze in the snow. He has no hold over me."

"Good," Silas murmured, offering his arm to her. "Then let us remind him of that."

Aria placed her hand on his forearm, feeling the steady strength radiating beneath his sleeve. Together, they walked through the grand stone hallways of the fortress, descending toward the subterranean hall where the high councils of the northern packs were convened.

As the heavy iron doors at the end of the corridor groaned open, the ambient noise of clashing voices and heavy boots instantly fell dead silent.

Dozens of Alphas, elders, and high-ranking warriors turned toward the entrance. Whispers broke out like wildfire as Silas swept into the grand chamber with Aria beside him. But Aria's eyes didn't wander over the crowd. They locked instantly onto a figure standing near the central stone table.

Julian.

He looked as sharp and commanding as ever, clad in the deep red colors of the Blood Moon pack. But as his eyes landed on Aria—flanked by the most dangerous Sovereign in the realm, clad in Shadowfang silver, and carrying herself with cold, regal grace—the color completely drained from his face. His jaw slackened, disbelief and a sudden edge of raw fury clashing across his features.

He had expected her body to be rotting beneath the snowdrifts. Instead, she had returned, standing as an equal beside the sovereign king who held his pack's fate in his hands.

Silas leaned down slightly toward Aria, his deep voice carrying clearly through the silent room. "Walk tall, little storm. The room is already yours."
